Star Wars Episode 7 is targeted for release in 2015, with more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga and grow the franchise well into the future.

Called it.

I know I've posted those thoughts many times, and I'm not the only one, but still it's a little gratifying to know how well I have the flannel one pegged down. He's too predictable. I've been expecting this announcement, or some form of it, for years.

There was never a chance in hell they wouldn't make another trilogy. The brand is too popular and too valuable.

2015 is right around the corner.  There must be some kind of script already?  Also does this mean that the original trilogy will receive some kind of justice in a return to home video releases?

Luke threw twice....maybe.

Kathleen Kennedy, the current co-chairman of Lucasfilm, will become its president and report to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn. Lucas will be creative consultant on new "Star Wars" films.

Lucas said in a statement, "It's now time for me to pass 'Star Wars' on to a new generation of filmmakers."

LOL. Creative consultant.

Wonder if this means Blu-rays or future 4K releases of the original theatrical versions of the holy trilogy is more or less likely to happen.

I can only hope...

My guess is he will go with The Thrawn Trilogy... I believe I've read somewhere that he believes if any films were made it would be based on that.

If ever a Vader "Noooooo" were appropriate it would be here.

I just hate that Disney is owning everything.

This is not a lightsaber. Nor a euphemism.

I really am gobsmacked. So much so that I'm using the word gobsmacked. This is some of the craziest news.

I mean, maybe I should be excited? Disney has the potential to do what Lucas has proven incapable of...

Really, we should have bought Disney stock yesterday.

I hate that Disney continues to buy up every shred of childhood.

In part, I think it signals the atrophy of new content creation.

There's just perpetual copyright ownership by a single corporation of all popular content from the last 80 years.

This is not a lightsaber. Nor a euphemism.

Disney, listen carefully...hire our friend the film preservationist by the name of Harris, give him access to the prints we know exist and release the damn theatrical cuts of the 70s and 80s we've waited for on HD home media for longer than is sane.

PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm.  Disney's pretty well-known for "touching up" their old films too, so I have a feeling this won't exactly help much in regards to getting the original versions.  I mean, that's if Lucas doesn't have a specific in this deal prohibiting such a thing.

Also... yeesh, episode 7.  We just have to keep going, don't we?  I for one was holding out the smallest hope that at least, despite all the terrible Star Wars shit of late, that the live-action, episodic film franchise was mercifully done before it was run into the ground any further.

On the other hand, though, this does have two positives/potential positives I can think of:  without Lucas at the helm, they might stand a chance of actually be good, a la Gene Roddenberry's "creative consultant" gigs.  Also, I can't wait for the reporters to start zeroing in on Lucas's statements of the past decade in regards to Star Wars being and having always been this six chapter story of "The Tragedy of Darth Vader."  Mm-hmm.  Yeah, how is episode 7 going to fit into this?  Is Darth Vader coming back as a ghost for more "tragedy"?

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming... Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

George suddenly remembered he actually did write those outlines for Episodes 6, 7, 8. Or else they've been stuck behind a drawer in his desk since 1980. ;)

it's not that hard for episode 6, since that already came out.

maybe you're thinking about  (7,8,) and 9.

At first i was quite excited that there now may be a chance we could see a restored version of the OUT, but then realised that Disney owning the rights to the Star Wars franchise will probably spell the end of anything fan created as their lawyers will be ready to pounce
