I guess some of Tchaikovsky's symphonies are suitable, because they are very powerful and induce a feeling of darkness.
Miklos Rozsa's soundtrack to "Ivanhoe" is pretty great. Not only did the prelude serve as the temp track for the Star Wars theme, but the rest of the movie has the right feel. There's at least one theme that's repeated throughout that could, if used correctly, serve as a new theme in the PT, if needed.
