Replacing ANH Vader would be a crime I can't even begin to fathom. No. NO.

Author
Time

he would never be replaced....not in Revisited anyways. We're only saying that some shininess COULD be added if one wanted to do so.

muddyknees has said this about three times now I can't see why these posts keep popping up.

There is a more matte finish to Vader in the opening shots that isn't present in the rest of the film.

So for the sake of continuity it may make sense to add some shine to the image but nobody has suggested replacing the image in this project (other than the hologram which needs fixing).

The added shine is a possible rejig of an EP IV element not an EP V element.

ROTJ:R will come before anyone has to cross that bridge.

Oh thank the Force, I thought you'd all went insane for a moment.

Yeah, I could dig some added shininess. Sounds groovy, yo.

Luke whispers something to Owen which reminds him to ask.  Already there, has been since '77.

"Right now the coffees are doing their final work." (Airi, Masked Rider Den-o episode 1)

I know that this would indeed cause rioting... but I have to say that watching Vader's ship land on Coruscant at the end of ANH, and seeing him on a landing platform speaking to someone of importance (no clue who) would be a really nice tie in and look pretty cool

"Lord Vader"

"Yes, commander?"

"We have the name of the Rebel Pilot responsible for the destruction of the Death Star"

"What is it (What is his name)?"

"Luke Skywalker, my lord. It appears that he may be the son of Anakin Skywalker."

"That... is impossible"

"I believed all traces of Skywalker were eliminated with the rest of the Jedi."

"As did I commander... as... did... I..."

I like the Idea, you basically made the person say what the Emperor said in ESB(2004-2011),+ with It being on Coruscant it will tie in 4-6 with episode 1-3 better.

Yeah that sounds to much like Emperor scene. Have the officer starts naming off the name of the pilots one by one....

"The corilian ship is registered to a Han Solo, there were two surviving X-Wing Pilots one is Wedge Antilies, and the other pilot is the one that destroyed the death start.... his name is Skywalker.... Luke Skywalker."

Then maybe the officer could say something like....

"If thats all for now i'll be sending this information to Coroscant."

Vader could stop him there.

Vader " That will not be necessary. I will deliver the message myself."

Which of course he wont. At the start of ESB he's desperate to get Luke. Then in ESB when the emperor talks to Vader and tells him who the pilot was Vader acts dumb like he didn't know this whole time. Makes it more clear what he's trying to do if a scene is shown of him finding out who the pilot is and show that he was already planning on holding that information away from the Emperor.

Or we could just watch the opening crawl and get the gist of that information in the first 15 seconds.

I don't need it all explained to me personally, and like so many others have said on this board; everything is over-explained in the prequels. I don't need the classic films to be treated the same way.

Would you not say Vader finding out that he has a child is a BIG revelation in his life? And even more he realise even more so how the Emperor has been lying to him. That revelation is the driving force of what he's doing through out ESB. He's eager to find Luke before the Emperor can get to him. When the Emperor talks to Vader about the pilot that destroyed the death star it was like the cat was out of the hat. Now Vader had to lie to the Emperor.

Anyways we can go back and forth on this. (If i have time i'd love to make a quick cheap version of this scene using my action figures. Maybe after i finish my Back to the Future Dub movie. Almost done with that.)

See, I can handle it either way.

In the end, it comes down to the fact that ANH was filmed as a single standalone film, where ESB and RotJ were both filmed knowing they were a part of a trilogy. Considering the fact that ESB is most people's favorite of the films, I don't think that it would be awful to alter the end of ANH to flow into ESB.

By ending ANH with Vader's revelation that Luke is alive, ESB with Luke's revelation that Vader is his father, and RotJ with the redemption, you keep with a common theme. If anything, it would strengthen the connection between the films. And in doing so, also strengthen the connection to the PT. Considering Ady is planning on doing all 6 films in an attempt to bring them closer together, I think this could work really well towards that goal.

Preferred Saga:
1/2: Hal9000
3: L8wrtr
4/5: Adywan
6-9: Hal9000

Arguably ESB was filmed with more than a trilogy in mind.

Which is probably why it feels less of a rushed job.

Does A New Hope feel like a rushed job?

ANYWAY, I'm looking forward to ESB: REVISITED!

Can someone actually involved in the project start a "Revisited Saga" thread? I feel awkward doing it because it's not mine to start... but it gets hard to "stay on topic" because the current revisited thread seems to be the home for all Revisited Saga discussion. It's seems strange to jump halfway through a discussion to a different thread that arguably way fewer people check on a regular basis...

4/5: Adywan

Not a bad thought. But not my place to make it happen either.

No but Star Wars (1977) was always filmed with a sequel in mind (either the cheaper Splinter In The Mind's Eye or the more expensive Episode 2 later V).

Return Of The Jedi definitely feels rushed and that was filmed with NO MORE sequels clearly in mind.

The ESB and ROTJ wishlist and Prequel redux thread have acted to some extent as future revisited project discussions (though they are much more than that).

Any Revisited page that isn't started by Ady is going to be doomed to die eventually (a number already have unless someone bumps the hell out of them).

I'm sure Ady will start the ROTJ:R thread the moment ESB:R is with us and the current ANH:R thread will carry AR:SE through to the PT:R (which will be one mega-project rather than three individual ones).

Remember this conversation only plays out like this in the recent SE versions, the conversation in Ady's version will be as in the theatrical version (with a few tweaks, due to the manipulation of Ian McDiarmid's lines)

My take on the original Emperor and Vader conversation makes me believe that the two had previously spoke about Luke Skywalker, his part in the destruction of the Death Star, that he was the son of Anakin and they knew he was rising in ranks in the Rebellion, but when Palpatine states 'we have a new enemy' he refers to the Tremor in the Force that is emitting from Dagobah...A Jedi Master has returned and young Skywalker is about to begin his training

If you watch the film with this in mind, it makes the new conversation shallow

Me too. The new enemy isn't Luke but Yoda and what he can turn Luke into.

All the more reason to remove Yoda from the PT in my opinion (to maintain the surprise and that the Emperor sees him as a new threat and not an already vanquished one).

I wonder if some of those redundant lines that Adywan omitted from ESB04 could somehow be added into the end of ANH:RSE?  I'm sure some of those lines could be added somehow....

Why not continue this off-topic conversation there fellas?

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/STAR-WARS-EP-IV-2004-REVISITED-ADYWAN-720p-HD-version-coming-after-ROTJ-R/topic/5942/

;)

(And why insisting on fixing something's that's not necessarily broken? I think the end of ANH works the way it is, in the sense that we see Vader's fighter stop spinning and disappear into the dark vastness of space. No need to see him in an extra scene that would affect the pacing and darken the celebration mood our heroes are in when they land on Yavin 4)

Anyway, are the AT-AT lasers gonna be eventually green? ;)

It seems a much better idea.

sigh.

I'M EXCITED ABOUT ESB: REVISITED!

Thread redeemed!

Author

As I said before the ROTJ:R thread will almost certainly come on line when ESB:R comes out.

The PT:R will not become an issue until after AR:SE (for which a thread already exists)

So why don't you use the existing threads to talk about ROTJ and PT edits and keep this thread for talking just about ESB:R?

It's not rocket surgery.

Here's my reasoning for a single "Revisited Thread"

A discussion about Han Solo's character arc takes place, focused on ESB:R. However, after discussing "I Love You" "I know" for two pages... we move into a discussion of Greedo shooting first and why that's wrong... but, should that conversation carry on for more than half a page... someone pops up (and... per forum rules, rightfully so) and says wrong thread for this discussion... Which means everyone involved in the discussion now has to switch threads to carry on a conversation. They then have to check back to the original thread to check the start of the conversation they were having, before popping back to the new thread to respond.... It makes things difficult.

I think having another "all encompassing" thread with the revisited name would just introduce a problem that's the opposite of the one you're trying to solve - people bringing ideas up in that thread when they'd be more suitable in the official thread for the episode in question. And I think we all know that Ady has his work cut out for him keeping track of suggestions on just one thread, let alone another of a less focused topic.

I also think it would also add confusion to new members about which thread is "official".

Something akin to the "OT Radical Redux" thread (a similar thread has been made for suggestions for ANH:SE) would be acceptable, though of course it wouldn't be limited to just revisited suggestions - which IMO is how it should be. One revisited thread for each episode (not counting the PT:R which I'm assuming will have one thread as it's all being edited simultaneously) Then people will be able to mention any episode they please without the off-topic police chiming in, and thank god for that. ;-)

Anyway, I can't wait for this. It's a good year for 'fan edits' (of a sort) for me as a fan made remake of one of my favourite games of all time (Half Life) is coming out in less than 3 days. And if you guys think TESB:R has taken a while, they started this in 2003!

*Shameless Plug Over* :-)
