If there is an incorrect fanfare on any releases with the '77 stereo mix, I am assuming it's this one.

TServo, you may be right about it being a new master, there are some differences between the two audio tracks.  There's a bit of a pitch wobble during the end of the twin sunset scene found on the digital track that's not present on the CAV disc, as well as  a couple of other unique audio dropouts.  I've corrected as many of these as I could, but some may have slipped by.

The CAV disc does seem to have a different mastering.  However, it exactly matches the older Japanese Analog CLV disc (FY570-35MA), which has the correct logo and fanfare.  If you look at a spectrogram of a recording from the CAV version, you can see roughly where the edit was made, right after the fanfare.

**Correction:  The Japanese Analog CLV audio matches the Digital CLV version exactly.  It looks to me like this is a separate master from the US CAV version that was converted to Digital.  However, it still looks like that fanfare was pasted onto the beginning of the CAV soundtrack.

The final version is remuxing to DJ V3 with Belbucus DS48 for comparison, the pots are washed, pack-up is done and the kettle is on for a nice cuppa ready to start watching in about 5 minutes.

A night of Star Wars heaven awaits!!

I'm just impressed after all this he named it the "final" version.  I hope there's not a "much more finaler" version in the wings.

I havn't a clue if the Fox fanfare is right or wrong (my head hurt at that part of the thread!!!) but what I do know is that having watched Star Wars (DJ V3) with this mix was simply amazing.

I kept flicking back to the Belbucus DS48 and that seemed "flat" in comparison. Before where you could make out that there was music in the background was now alive and the voices/explosions seemed much crisper. R2-D2 was so clear, it was like he was in the room with me!

Sorry I am garbage in the language of sound comparison but trust me, this is impressive.......

Thanks Russs.  I guess that's why they made such a big deal when LD's first introduced digital sound.

Thanks again, just got through this, and I'd say the dynamic range improvement alone makes this my recommended stereo mix, replacing Belbucus' mix.  Great work.

Just was curious... So this P&S Japanese LD of schorman13's has the original 77 fanfare AND the 77 dolby stereo mix... in digital???

Did you do a bit for bit digital transfer? Would that even make a difference?

Who knows what treasures other obscure P&S LDs have in terms of sound. Mono mix and or 70mm mix in digital :-D ? One can dream...

Actually there's a pitch warble at 25:46 that's either more pronounced in this version or not present in Belbucus at all.  It's a little hard to take; I may try to manually patch my version.

Yeah, I noticed that one.  It's not present on the CAV disc, so it could easily be patched.  My original goal was to do as little patching as necessary to maintain sync.  This was the one spot I wasn't sure about fixing.

I understand.  There's different goals for different people, too.  Some people will certainly want to know what subtitle variations existed between versions and if you clean them all up what do they do?

FWIW there's also a much more minor hiccup at 53:11.  I probably wouldn't patch over it if that was the only thing I wanted to change, but I'll probably get it too on my copy.

That one is on the CAV as well, you'd probably want to patch it from the 85 mix if possible.

The only pre-THX PAL LD releases I know of were from 1982 with analogue sound.

For VHS, all the Fullscreen pre-THX PAL releases (82, 87, 88 and 89) did not have the tractor beam line so all are not the 85 mix but their sound is average at best. The first Widescreen VHS from 91 had the 85 mix.........

borris, I have those discs as well.  I've completed ripping them, but I wasn't able to finish syncing them before I left for vacation last week.  I am planning on releasing these when I get back home, which should be mid August.
