please someone tell me that the 'space slug glove parachute pants arm puppet' is going to be fixed eventually.  once you look away from the falcon and look at the crater's edge and the fabric rippling over it, it becomes so obvious it is a poorly realized puppet and you can never look at it the same way again!

Thanks for ruining that sequence for me. BTW could watch that clip for hours.

There's no way to fix it without replacing it with CGI, and I'm totally against adywan doing that. The fact is, it's a movie from the 70s, and I want it to kind of show. I don't want it to look like a movie from 2012. I much prefer the handmade feel of the original trilogy. It gives character, and having a space slug puppet come out of the hole is A LOT more charming to me than a computer-generated image.

I can look at that scene and imagine it as a giant space slug, because I have a good imagination, and I can look at it and be amazed that these young guys could achieve something so grand and exciting with just puppets and models. I think those that need everything to look 100% believable and realistic are forgetting that even CGI ages over time. You're just replacing one aged technology with another.

The puppet is fine the way it is. It's loose skin rippling over the edge of the crater, not fabric. ;-)

I'm not seeing the 'rip'. I know its a puppet but I'm use to it.

It dosen't rip, but the fabric the puppet is made from ripples as it rolls over the crater edge. It's never really bothered me, I just see it as the creatures loose skin. But I'm pretty sure Ady had some plans for this..

I think I'll anticipate a December release.  It will be this next to The Hobbit that I'll be also be looking forward to and that will pretty much make up my month.  Still if it's any time sooner then awesome.  But for now I'd like Ady to take his time and a December release date sounds a little attractive to me that way. :)

News or no news heh - I look forward to the surprises Adywan has in store for us, so the lesser the spoilers I say. ;)

Yeah, me too. I can't wait.

I wish he started with the Prequels first, though. Can't wait to see what he has planned for them.

- I completely agree 100%.  They should change the abbreviation from CGI to CGC in my opinion.  *cough*yoda*

- I must respectfully disagree, I think adywan has proven this at length.  It would be a pretty simple matter as it isn't that long of a sequence.

to all:  I do find it hilarious though, that when in the previous 12,000 pages every little shadow and glow and "cumulo-nimbus or cirrus?" has been picked over beyond belief yet this glaring slug puppet suspension of disbelief killer has people all nostalgic.  O_o?

amazingly I never noticed it myself even after years and years of viewing this film in and out of theaters, that is until I saw adywan's trailer when he first released it.

I want to know who's arm is in that puppet!

Yeah funny how I've never noticed that before.  Let's keep it hush hush otherwise Uncle George might go back and replace the Space Slug with CGI lol! ;)

Best idea ever.  Replace Yoda with a hand, painted green, "speaking" the lines and moving around like it can actually see/address a person...

HILARIOUS

The only problem I have with the space slug is that it doesn't look like a cave in the slightest.

It takes Solo a while to figure it out and Leia defends the initial cave hypothesis right up to the end but the mouth doesn't look like a row of stalactites and stalagmites.

It makes our heroes seem a bit dumb.

As for the "it's a film made in the 70's" defense that holds true for a preservation.

I have no problem watching Harmy's versions and noticing the craft used making a film with almost as much vintage as myself (Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom was a screw up when it was made but ESB was the cutting edge of effects and it's few flaws are part of the historical experience of watching the film as released in 1980).

For a special edition I have no problem with changing the creature to make it look more like something that might be mistaken for a cave and less like a puppet.

That's what special editions are for.

But as Ady has said he is happy with what he has done so far I can't see a major reworking as a feature of this project.

You're right, I didn't mean to jump all over your post like it was blasphemy or something. :D

It's a fair point you make, I guess I think the difference is the idea of completely replacing the slug would remove an original - and beloved - element, and any time adywan has made such a decision (such as with removing the AT-ST from the Hoth battle), people are going to get emotional about it. I'm sure there is someone who's emotionally attached to the original clouds and buildings on Bespin, lol, in my case it's the creatures. I just LOVE hand-made creature effects. I bemoan the loss of so much great latex make-up and animatronic effects in film in exchange for shiny computer imagery (I don't hate all CGI, I just think it's used too much and often too poorly). Watto, from the Phantom Menace, comes to mind as a creature that could've been so much better (dialogue and racially-insensitive performance aside) had he been a practical puppet.

Maybe some dust and debris flying up out of the lip of the crater where the slug's underbelly rubs against it would help sell the shot more.

Maybe making the crater smaller would work, that way the action of the slug straining to recapture it's meal could crack and enlarge the crater.

Oh... Thought there was gonna be a new miniature slug mouth.. or something... No? I'm not good with the forums search feature and I'm not gonna go digging through hundreds of pages, but I thought that was discussed a long time ago on a page far far away...

Remember waaay back when we were talking (and posting concept pics) of the slug having more stalactite type teeth (and adding different textures to the inside/outside slug skin)?

Ahh, those were the days.... back when Angel was still with us.

Reminds me of a line from "The Big Bang Theory".  They just got the SW BluRay set and are planning on watching it but they keep getting delayed.

I believe Adywan has stated that Angel's concepts don't really mesh with his, and I would agree--they have very different visual styles and ideas concerning Star Wars.  Besides, I recall a falling out between them awhile back, so I wouldn't count on any participation from Angel.

Im sorry for my ignorance corelian77. I didnt mean to bring another guy's work here and suppress by any means the work of Mr Adrian. I was reading the topics these days and a lot seems to recall the work/mock-ups from this so called "Angel" and i tried to to a search with hope to find him and return him to the people who seems to like his/her work. I didnt know there was something behind these forums that cause troubles. I hope i didnt open old wounds here. Again Great Work Mr Adywan!:-D

I have to say... the Mr. Adrian thing is driving me nuts. :P

Faneditors have secret identities. It's like seeing Superman saving the world and saying "It's a bird, it's a plane. No, it's Mr. Kent!" There's just something not right with that statement.

On these boards, when he is discussing edits, he is Adywan, savior of Star Wars.

Me too. I alluded to it in a joke I made a few pages back. I was hoping he might take my hint without me or anybody else having to sound... well, mean.

Agreed. Adywan's work has always been of a higher caliber than this. Where did you find this, anyway, Titus? It was posted to a rather newly registered Vimeo account, and the user hasn't posted any other videos, information, or external links. It's all a bit mysterious, really. =)
