some sort of error has occurred in the political thread and posting in there seems to be impossible at the moment. I've contacted Jay about it. I figured we could continue the conversation here until Jay gets things fixed.

I have never, do not now, will never believe in the "invisible hand" stuff.

This is why you're a Socialist.

this is I why I put you on ignore. I need to stop reading your posts.

xhonzi said:

Not an accusation or a judgement. Just an observation.

yeah, it is an accusation and a judgement. You are basically saying I am unAmerican.

I am not a socialist. I do not believe in the government having total control over the economy.

xhonzi said:

It makes sense. It's practically impossible to be a Capitalist without some belief in the "invisible hand" stuff. And it's pretty easy to see why you'd lean socialist/communist if you didn't think that money worked that way. It's pretty much the only option open to you if you don't believe in the invisible hand.

perhaps I am neither capitalist nor socialist. maybe I am something in between?

xhonzi said:

But how you can deny the invisible hand baffles me.

I just don't. I don't believe that people trying to get rich is just going happen to help everyone else.

xhonzi said:

Perhaps it's due to limited personal experience with captial.

yeah sure, that's what it is.

xhonzi said:

I don't mean that as a slight or a "tactic".

you sure about that?

xhonzi said:

And I apologize if you take it that way.

uh huh.

xhonzi said:

Maybe other people in this thread that don't believe in the invisible hand of the free market at all, but who have more life experience with the market, can back you up and help us understand how it can be so easily dismissed.

they are free to try.

If I could force you to read Adam Smith or Milton Friedman, I would. Or even just Freakonomics. I guess you could read it and disagree the whole time... but it's pretty hard to argue against, as far as I can tell.

Or course, if you can completely dismiss Max's example of it his above post as nonsense, I guess you could do the same to Smith or Friedman.

since I probably won't ever read that stuff, we will never know.

xhonzi said:

Just one more note: I don't think anyone would argue that free markets guided by invisible hands are perfect. I would argue that they are best, but still have problems.

maybe because they aren't perfect is why you need government intervention sometimes?

xhonzi said:

Capitalism is indeed the worst system. Except for all of the other ones.

I would agree with that, for the most part. Capitalism is better that just about anything else out there. But I think would work the best a capitalism with a little bit of socialism thrown in for good measure.

now I am done with you, xhonzi.

Periodically--and only when using Explorer--a particular thread does not allow me to post or even scroll past a particular comment.  There seems to be no reason why this happens or why a particular comment gets to be last in line.  A different browser works fine, and when the thread shifts to a new page, the problem goes away.  Try using another browser or adjusting your settings so that a different number of comments are available per page.  One of those will likely take care of your problem, dear Warbler.

Meanwhile, what sort of fun could we have with an alternate political page?  Perhaps we can discuss ridiculous political discussions (cue someone saying, "All discussions in the political thread are ridiculous.") like tabloid articles or nonexistent political situations, like the Chinese invasion of India, or something like that.  It could be really fun!

are you saying the political thread works fine for you?

ok, the political thread seems to be working now.     don't know what happened.

So.....the Chinese invaded India yesterday.  Pakistan in response came to their rescue, as they have always sworn to do, and launched 6 IRBMs, all of which were taken down by Khazakstan's missile shield, which they utilized as part of their 60 year standing alliance with China, after Khazakstand took over 3/4 of Siberian Russia.  But this is all needless details, since you all know this.  Secretary of State Donald Trump negotiated a peaceful end to the invasion and all Chinese troops returned home.  Both sides are calling it a moral victory.

This usually happens when someone does a copy/paste from Microsoft Word.

Now there are two of them?

I am not sure where to put this, so I guess it can go here.

when I change the text editor to the plain text editor and go to page 515 of the political thread, I see the error message at the bottom of the page and the last few posts in that thread are cut off.   but, if I change back to the advanced text editor,  the error message goes away and the cut off posts are back.   weird.

It's a shame to let a thread go to waste so this thread is now exclusively for pictures of politicians holding invisible objects :

It could have gone in the bug reports forum.

Does this count?  It's not an invisible object, but McCain's not yet holding it either.

^He could be reaching for something as yet not realised or he could already be holding an invisible object with both hands and his mouth so yes it counts.

Also the other chap could be holding an invisible object in his obscured hand.

Can we utilize this thread for silly political discussions too?  I thought this worthwhile:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/13/sweden-left-party-toilet-stand_n_1590572.html?utm_hp_ref=weird-news

Should those Swedes armed with Y chromosomes and the accompanying anatomy be required to sit down when urinating?  That's what the Leftist party there wants.  Please give your thoughts.  That sounds like a very controlling government to me ;)

No.

Shucks... alright but only if you post a picture of a politician holding an invisible object as well.

While he's not actually "holding" it, here's Ronald typing on an invisible keyboard:
