Inside Jaws, A Filmumentary

Call me mad, call me crazy, bonkers, whatever…

…I am embarking on my biggest project yet. “Inside Jaws, A Filmumentary”.

Yes, I know Jaws has been very well documented but I am very keen to make a good product using the best and most rare resources I can. I’ve already been in touch with one of the worlds biggest Jaws collectors and have some awesome material heading its way to me. As with “Raiding the Lost Ark”, I won’t be releasing this unless I feel it is a worthwhile product.

The Jaws blu ray is apparently out in Aug 2012, so I have lots of work to do. So I am cracking on with this!

I am currently looking for a good copy of the BBC’s In the Teeth of Jaws. I have found several fuzzy, low quality versions but I am sure there must be somebody out there with a good copy. Any help would be appreciated.

Current Resources:

Jaws 30th Anniversary DVD
The Making of Jaws (Long Version)
DVD Deleted Scenes and Outtakes
AFI Masterclass Williams and Spielberg
Jaws a Place in History
Animal Planet - Jaws
E True Hollywood Story - Jaws
In the Teeth of Jaws
Jaws The Inside Story
Jaws From Book to Screen
Edith Blake Interview
Lee Fierro Interview
New England Our Way
Spielberg on Spielberg
Spielberg Culture Show Interview
Spielberg In the Actors Studio

Many Thanks
J

I imagine it's the vintage that's the issue - this was only screened once IIRC, on BBC2 in 1997, at a time predating most folks' ability to receive digital TV.

I was no exception, but have a pretty serviceable transfer of my analogue-received VHS recording - do you want to have a look and I can then try to dig out the tape if it proves useful?

There is the "The Shark is Still Working-The Legacy of Jaws" documentary that is out there, its even available on DVD somewhere, because they released DVD Screeners to Reviewers a couple years ago.

Would that collector be Harry from AICN? Jaws is his favourite film. If not, he may be worth getting in touch with. Jaws is one of my fav thrillers, looking forward to more awesomeness from Jambe!

I would love to get hold of some ADigitalMan Extended Editions if anyone can help out. Monty Python's Life Of Brian, Love Actually Bloated and Flatulent. Ta!

Jonno, it looks like I may have managed to procure a copy of the BBC dodo from a very good source. I should know within two weeks.

DarthCarr, The Shark is Still Working was never properly released (probably never will) so I don't know how easy it would be to get hold of it. I kind of don't want to step on their toes.

Maclanachu, The collector is Jim Bellar but Harry from AICN will know about my project already. AICNBrit just posted about it.

Fantastic news and thanks also for all your previous efforts.

I too have an off air tape of the BBC Doc I can provide a DVD of if useful. It is far from perfect though.....

I'm so grateful to hear that. After finding out about that fan-made doc, I was worried that they wouldn't like you using their work and they're be fan wars.

I wonder if you shouldn't reach out to them, get some of their information out there?

Jambe,

Are you planning on making a disc of the complementing footage? I'd love to make a disc with the documentaries afterwards! :)

I also have a few things that I was putting on my Jaws discs as well. I'll go through what I have and let you know.

Good luck!

Tocknet, I may be getting a copy from the very source. Standby with that tape/dvd. It depends if I can pull this off.

Doubleofive, I'll talk to you about that later.

Digitalfreaknyc, Nice to hear from you. I could collaborate with you when the project is done to release some of the material for sure. Thanks.

Jambe, you may also be interested in the following stuff ...

The Shark Is Still Working (2007)

- professionally made retrospective fan documentary with interviews of cast & crew (yes, Steven Spielberg etc)

- surprisingly it still has not been officially released despite rave reviews by a handful of previewers (which makes me wonder about the guy who has yet to see a single cent for his efforts ... hmm, sounds strangely familiar :) )

Your Studio And You (1995)

- a satirical 1950s-style b/w short mockup that was only meant for internal viewing at Universal, when (would you believe) they were being taken over by Liqour company Seagram

- commissioned by David Zucker and created by two unknown struggling artists named Matt Stone and Trey Parker

- boasting a ton of celebrities, starting with Steven Spielberg playing a tour guide shouting "Look Out, It's A Shark!" along the infamous Jaws Ride, though we can't tell if he or his passengers are more bored with the experience

http://videosift.com/video/Universal-Studios-Employee-Video-Directed-by-Matt-Stone-and-Trey-Parker

- you can easily google info for this, however I have an extensive article by zap2it.com that I can forward to you since the online link no longer exists

8mm reel

This one was created by 12 year old kids (and has no sound), but includes the original daytime version of the initial attack scene

Jaws Ride

- below is a link to the "simulated tour", which is probably the best quality version of the attraction

http://www.geekosystem.com/universal-studios-jaws-simulated-tour/

(and look up the TSISWorking facebook link for info on its unfortunate dismantling this year)

Speaking of which, you may want to create a supplemental piece regarding this now-destroyed attraction piece.

Hope this helps.
