Interesting cut, Ron.  You did good work.  I am already putting your new opening and the worms in the sand up for vote, and many of the other ideas you incorporated were already voted on and/or incorporated into the script.  Again, is there anything you want me to put up that I didn't think of?

Too bad I didn't see anymore Rebel footage.  I did send an email out to a guy who was making a fan film (now apparently on hiatus) that included commandos to see if he has anything useful he might be willing to share.  Awaiting a response.

Guys, I think the hardest parts of our edit would be the actual filming of new material.  Therefore I want to keep my eyes open for new footage we could use instead of filming our own.  Anyone interested in seeking out new stuff would be appreciated.

Saw this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jw_VPREHnpY

It has a bunch of dudes in Fett armor, set in a forest.  It occurs to me, as I'd mentioned it long ago, that it would be more interesting for Boba Fett to try and take out Han on Endor.  I don't know if this could be worked into our plans, but it just keeps me thinking.  I really feel like that would be the most fitting fate for Fett (alliterative fun!).  Still pondering, and I think there is something that could actually be made useful here...

I don't know really If I should ask you to include my ideas that I had for how things play out because It clashes with what you wan't to do and I do not want to cause you setbacks from the path you feel you are on.... What do you think?

Do you like what I did with Jejerrod and the space battle? I lol Did you think it worked?

Jabbas lines? Luke and leia siblings and how it wraps up?

Did you like the way it ended?

I don't know what to make of your summing up of Interesting your probably still pondering it... I'd like to know what you think even if you hated it lol... But I don't think you did :)

So I don't mind feedback but try not to spoil it for anyone that potentially might want to watch it... or PM me on it and let me know that way if you like if you want to go into detail about a certain aspect ... But most of all thanks for watching :)

Looks like there are a couple of trailers.  Gosh, it looks like that film too is frozen in development.  Too bad, as that looks really flippin' cool!

I didn't realize what a resource some of these fan films could be.  I don't know why.  I hope some of you will do some scavenging for anything potentially useful.  This could really expand our possibilities and save us work.

damn I would have used that shot of them running from the AT-ST if I had of seen that one good find D! Oh god here we go again!

I can already see that I will have to make a revised storyboard cut what you trying to do to me D?

Hey, don't stress.  You didn't use Star Tours 1 footage either.  The quality is low on these videos.  I've emailed asking for permission to use some of their footage, but I have a feeling they will say no if they say anything at all.  But we might get lucky and get a decent quality source.  Who knows?

As for your ideas, I'm still thinking about the specifics you mentioned.  I'll get back to you.

I have a falcon cockpit shot of star tours 1 that I did before my trial ran out but It ended before I got to put an x-wing cockpit on so I would not export for some reason and besides I felt that it needed some dog fight action before entering DSII which would have made sense just a small amount then the ties following them in also would make alot more sense... Falcon cockpit worked ok but needed to be an x-wing I felt. the only bit that worked well was where it pulled up away past the tower before heading for the trench.. Hey I ran out of time and wanted to call it somwhere like I said... It's not there yet is it... So Challenging ROTJ

even you know I wanted to do that but yeah i have fell short on this..

actually can I rephrase dog fighting to shots of ships passing gun towers on DSII surface an ties coming towards them perhaps blasting there way through them before entering the service tunnel... Thats more what I had in mind

just a thought but some star tours 1 footage might actually look better in a tie fighter cockpit like chasing them laterall thinking and this would be much better now I think of it

I agree, I'd like to see some dogfighting near the DS surface, perhaps something similar to what Ady did in ANH:R.  But I think when the fighting settles down, the fighters can then race towards the hole, and the flight over the surface could be integrated in there.

Good finds.  Pre-made footage spares us a lot of work.

EDIT: Just checked out the website for the second video, and it looks like the creators are projecting that their film will be done this year.  If so, it could be a truly great resource.

If nothing else, it would be grand simply to get in touch with some folks already happy to make fan films and ask them to film footage for us.  I'm not sure where to turn for that.  Johannus was looking to contact some folks in the UK for costumes, but some people simply want constumes for conventions and the like.  How could we get in touch with someone willing to film actual material?

I again will state what I said before, I think we currently have a good option for Fett's demise at the hands of Luke, following Ronster's suggestion.  However, I know I'd find it more fulfilling if Boba survived and got to face off with Han once more on Endor.  I'm not sure how we would accomplish this, especially given the limited footage and flexibility in the story.  But assuming we could film and integrate Boba Fett shots into the existing film, how could we actually create a scene where Han gets to take him out and bring about a more worthy ending for the bounty hunter?

I once had an idea to have Boba chase the Millenium Falcon down the Death Star hatch in Slave I, replacing the TIE interceptor. Would need to incorporate him in the space battle beforehand, so his presence makes sense.

I'm not a big fan of this idea (despite it being my own) but it's still food for thought.

It's good food.  My other thought was if we couldn't have Fett face Han, maybe Lando could take him out.  Perhaps we could have Boba involved in the space battle, and perhaps when the shield is taken out, Boba could head to the surface to face off with Han.

Still engaging in a firefight with Han would be tricky.  Maybe the Death Star is the way to go.  It'd be a more glorious end for the infamous bounty hunter than his original, that's for sure.

With regards to finding costumers to help I have so far had someone with a Vader costume, and someone with a Scout trooper costume say they are interested in helping.  I have also spoken to a few people in the US that seem to like the idea, but I would have to pass their information on to someone in the US to film things there. I'm still confident we will find more, it just seems to take time to get the individuals to come forward, probably because its a close community and I'm still very new.  I am actually looking into making a costume of my own (an X Wing pilot) and joining them on an outing, so I can talk to them face to face about it, as I think it would be a lot easier to generate interest this way.  I also know someone with his own camera who I am hoping I can get to help (though it will depend on actual dates quite a lot), and I am still hoping I can find someone else with a camera to help too as this would be a big help.  Given that several groups of people are in the process of making fan films at any given time, we could just try to put a list together and contact them in the hope they could also add something for us to work with.

There also seems to be a group of costumers in the US who are currently filming footage for Adywan to use in ESB:R so assuming they intend to help in the same way with RotJ:R then perhaps we could contact them too?  Just kinda making this up as I go, but given that camera and costumes are the two big expenses in something like this, and we know there are already Star Wars fans out there with access to them, then the more help we can get and the less we have to spend out ourselves the better.  There are only two official groups of costumers in the UK and one seems to be ignoring my attempts to contact them altogether, but in the US there are dozens, so maybe if we could convince a few of the leaders of those groups, it would be much easier to spread the word.

I also find it has been difficult to get across exactly what we are trying to do, to people who aren't familiar with fan editing, and who largely don't see the films as in need of changing, so I was thinking some sort of trailer showing a few examples of what we are trying to achieve might help to generate a bit more awareness.

If I might make a suggestion re a trailer...make a trailer that highlights the changes in one way or another.  Otherwise people think you are just showing them a fan-made trailer for the original movie.

EDIT: Of course, you guys are doing more than just playing with existing footage...but still.

Whilst the idea is good and in theory it works but it makes Boba Fett practically part of the empire and that is not what he is.... He's a mercenary... So it would make more sense him being contracted to hunt them down on Endor than chase the falcon through the tunnels of DSII... Even though he is the coolest star wars character it would add nothing to have him flying through DSII although it's interesting idea it's simply swapping him for a tie-fighter..

It would be tough to show him hunting down Han on Endor and TBH he does not have anything against him as per say he only got hired to catch him for Jabba so there is no revenge story either Jabbas dead so who would he be working for?

Nobody from the empire knows Han / Chewie / Leia is on the shuttle tydirium only luke is known to be on the mission because Vader senses him and he gives himself up. Very difficult to join the dots on this thats all I'm saying

put it this way if somone killed your boss would you want to chase them down on a revenge hunt or would you simply go work for somone else and the only somone else is the empire who don't know Han / Leia / Chewie are there

I completely agree.  It should include as many of the mock ups of new ideas as possible (even if ultimately we don't use those exactly as they were presented).

I would also suggest changing the name to something other than just Return of the Jedi.  Either one of the new suggestions such as Last of the Jedi, or adding something, such as Return of the Jedi: Reimagined, or something, again to further highlight the fact it is different from the original and make it easier for people to find the project.

Aelanfe (or however you spell it) your video mockup is pretty good, it reminds me of this but much more serious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cG1XLJPvkLg, in fact if that version of "Funeral Pyre for a Jedi" in there were to be used, I think the scene would be perfect.

Trying to address a few things: Ronster, I'm not really a big fan of most of Jabba's altered lines.  The only one that maybe sounds equal or better is, "Now we will deal with you."

Also regarding wrapping up the brother/sister plot point, I think if you'd prefer that Luke not tell Leia, then that addition to the end does nothing but slow down the ending.  I just perhaps she doesn't even ever need to know--she just loves Han in the end.

The whole thing with the ships jumping to hyperspace in the end is not my ideal ending, but I have to admit that it's pretty cool.  I'll include it in the vote.

I also admit that I am laughing at what you did with Jerjerrod.  The shield goes down, the Executor crashes into the Death Star, and then the Imperial officer replaces Ric Olie as the new Captain Obvious by telling Jerjerrod that "the shield is down."  I must admit that I skimmed that point and missed it.  That's pretty darn funny!  However, I like how you rearranged some of the shots with the amount of damage to the Death Star seemingly far more as a result of the Executor's crash, and I like that Jerjerrod orders the fleet to take a defensive position around the Death Star.  However, it's clear that you didn't want the Death Star to fire on Endor, something that I think improves the tension in the film drastically.  And I personally like my own portrayal of his demise better.

As always, it's constructive criticism, but that's what I feel.  And while I don't always agree with your ideas, that doesn't mean I think they are bad.  They're just not what I would do.

I liked a lot of the additional battle shots you added, though I know they are just to convey ideas.

A trailer would be great, but I don't think we have enough new material to be worth showing that.  Perhaps we can get moving soon on the CGI work and use some of that to make a trailer, and from there we can try to recruit some costumer folks for filming new material.

Johannus, I think for now you have officially nominated yourself as the PR person for our live footage.  Keep up the good work, and please keep us informed as to the success of any outreach to costumers and fan film makers.  Thanks for all your efforts in that department.

Your points are all very good, especially the fact that Fett is a mercenary and it does indeed make him look like an Imperial agent.

My thought was that he was ticked off for losing his prized capture and feels a personal vendetta towards Han (who also has a pretty personal problem with Fett) for having smacked his rocket pack.  If Fett were to survive, possibly flying over the sail barge, it would make for an interesting subplot.  And I'm actually quite confident that we could somehow show Boba trailing the team all the way to Endor, perhaps even hired a second time by Vader to take assist in taking out the commando team.  I'm confident in everything except that it would be nearly impossible to show Fett and Han facing off.  It occurred to me that since we are removing most of the Leia/Wicket 'getting to know you' bit, Boba Fett could take Leia as a hostage while she waited outside the bunker as Han and others set the charges to blow up the generator.  But still, how would we portray Han getting ticked off and saving his woman?

Interesting, especially since I had no idea that Lego beat me to the idea.  I agree with you about the music...your music cue for that scene is indeed very powerful.

Okay folks, here's the deal.  Today I begin my transition away from originaltrilogy.com for a while.  I have an addictive personality I fear, and I have put too much time into this project.  I have completed the final vote and this time I will be PMing everyone who has participated between the last vote and today with a link, though I actually have to get going right now, and may not get back to it for a couple of days.

After I post the vote, I will only respond to appropriate updates.

After the vote is completed, I will update the script and provide assignments to the editors.

After the assignments are made, I will only respond to emails (my email address for this project is rotjfan@gmail.com).

This will probably last until the summer.  I may provide periodic updates if the project makes serious headway with the editors, ideally using the other site I set up.  But you will not see much of me for the next few months.  I have to prioritize things this way.  I really hope this project keeps up the steam.  I'd hate for it to die.  Thanks for everyone's participation thus far, and I truly believe we can get this done.
