George's Armchair Pyschologists Thread (was: The NEW and IMPROVED George bashing thread!!!) — Page 2

Now that we're talking funny edits, I remember years and years ago watching ROTJ on TV.  I was literally probably no older than 6 (now 29) and I wasn't watching the whole thing because I was scared of Jabba.  Anyway, enough memory lane.  I remember where the two scout troopers ambush Leia and Wicket, they cut out everything from Wicket hitting the trooper to after Leia shoots the speeder bike.  It goes from Leia being held hostage to Wicket making cute victory noises and Leia saying, " Come on.  Let's get out of here."  Even then I thought it was weird.

What makes me hate GL with such hatred is simply his willingness to destroy the OOT without any sense of guilt or remorse. He is a man that cannot understand the extent of the damages he is doing to these films that are woven inextricably into our culture, it's like shooting someone in the heart and not expecting them to die.

Another thing that makes my blood boil is that he managed to keep up a fraudulent appearance for 20 years in many people think he was this great auteur when he was one of the most utterly untalented persons in the history of filmmaking. Everyone else that made SW great in spite of GL has been either marginalized or purged from the official story (Marcia Lucas and Gary Kurtz); even the people that remain in good favor with GL (Spielberg) has their talents drained by his shockingly awful ineptness. Why this man went into filmmaking I have no clue, because he has nothing of merit that can contribute anything tolerable to cinema. He just think he does.

Nice find. Shooting alternate scenes for tv seems to be rare prior the 80's.

The Smokey and the Bandit movies have a lot of profanity redubbed, by someone who sounds more like Fred Flintstone than Jackie Gleason.

The most extensive tv cut I recall was one of the Cheech and Chong movies. All the drug references were totally removed, and a suitcase full of hasish was turned into a suitcase full of diamonds. I kid you not.

The cut to Jedi you describe sounds like they wanted to stuff in more commercials. The "edited for television" caption often meant "sliced to ribbons" to many movie fans.

Where were you in '77?

Since we've been derailed by the "edited for television" meme:

I'm surprised that more studios don't offer a family-friendly track like the one offered for Avatar.

The TV (and airline) cuts are approved by the studios, so what harm could it be to use those? As long as the original track is also offered on disc, who could possibly complain about a family-friendly track?

All these popup companies have shown there's a market for this.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

I found a link that has the exact quote in text.  I got the gist of it right.

Here's a different take on the edited version that includes the rodent line, but instead calls Peck "Wally Wick."  A video this time.

Can't find the weasel line in action, but all good fun.

I remember that. When I was 4 (now 30) I stopped responding to my real name and would only answer to Ray because I love Ghostbusters and Dan Aykroyd. The edited TV version used to make my blood boil with it's lame cuts and dialog changes!

My favorite telly version was Night Of The Comet (1984), the best line in the film was changed to "I'm not crazy, I just don't give a point".

George must have done it, George is as evil as Spoonguard

But...without Spoonguard how will we protect ourselves from the spoon menace?

Is there any way to hook this thread up to something like a Twitter-like feed?  That way we can hook up to a few guys like walking_carpet, skyjedi, generalfrievous, and I'm sure there are others.  If they comment anywhere on this forum about anything, it should automatically be linked to this thread.  No one can tell us exactly what Lucas is thinking with such clarity as well as they can.

Heck, let me give it a go.  George Lucas went to the grocery store to buy bubble gum.  This is of course a racist thing, as there was a closer Quick-E Mart where the gum was sold for 4 cents cheaper, but it was run by a man from Sri Lanka.  George wants to withhold his funds from minorities after all, especially since the OT is the primary version of Star Wars folks have seen and fallen in love with there in Sri Lanka.  The man is a total nutjob, loser, racist, history revisionist, and evil the likes of the Pharaoh who massacred all those innocent little boys!  The little boy inside me has been fed to the crocodiles!!!  Them's the facts, and don't you dare disagree with me.

I remember when Aliens was first shown on TV in the U.K it was really badly cut for the language. Thing is, the voice over artist sounded nothing like Bill Paxton at all and made one of the censored lines " Let's grease this rat fat son of a bitch..." sound all the more comical.

I hope I didn't offend anyone with my last post.  I do think the GL bashing sometimes gets really out of hand, and in spite of his many flaws I think there is much good to be said about the guy.  If nothing else, he pursues no legal action against the folks of this site, something he could truly do and win if he wanted to.  But as I poked fun at a few people by name, I just want to make sure that everyone is aware that I hold no hard feelings towards them or anyone else.

LFL neighbors get in on the thread:

http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2012/01/19/some-marin-residents-move-to-block-planned-lucasfilm-facility/

SAN RAFAEL (KCBS / CBS 5) – The long-delayed plans of filmmaker George Lucas to build a movie production studio on the old Grady Ranch has stirred opposition among residents of a quiet bedroom community in Marin County.

The state-of-the-art facility would bring an outdoor soundstage and underground parking for 250 cars to an area residents said is zoned for single-family and multi-family residences.

The Amazing Criswell predicts :

In the 21st Century the average American household will own 250 atomic powered automobiles.

Housewives will grow beards, men will wear skirts and be happy homemakers.

It will be commonplace for fully grown adults to own more plastic toys than their children but never remove them from their outer packaging which will be prized as highly as diamonds.

And the DOJ 'Department of Justice' throws another stick on the anti pile:

http://techcrunch.com/2012/01/19/damning-evidence-emerges-in-google-apple-no-poach-antitrust-lawsuit/

Next week a class-action civil lawsuit will be heard in San Jose to determine if Google, Apple, Pixar, Lucasfilm, Adobe, Intel, and Intuit conspired to eliminate competition for skilled labor. In anticipation of the hearing, TechCrunch has attained evidence from the Department of Justice’s investigation in 2010 which was made public this evening for the first time. It appears to support the plaintiff’s case that the defendant companies tried to suppress employee compensation by entering into “no poach” agreements.

For example, Lori McAdams of Pixar wrote an internal email to others at Pixar  in April 2007 stating, “I just got off the phone with Danielle Lambert [of Apple], and we agreed that effective now, we’ll follow a Gentleman’s agreement with Apple that is similar to our Lucasfilm agreement.”

A should-be, would-be, could-be, or has-been professional movie critic

I wanted to be a film critic, but as I got into college, print media was dying and now that half the people on earth have blog, I don't know if I'll get to achieve my dream job. That's the Internet's fault, not Lucas', but so it goes.
