I've got a bad sector or something on a DVD-R of a Betamax transfer I'm not going to be able to do over. (The tape gets worse with every play.) The freeze up occurs well after the movie is over though, in the middle of some promos that were at the end of the tape.
Is it possible to salvage this thing?

You could try IsoPuzzle.
... (edit) or, if you don't actually need to recover the lost sectors, try something like DVDFab HD Decrypter, which may allow you to skip the bad sectors and produce a workable DVD that won't lock up your player.
