Well, I totally agree with Zombie that the most impact that the prequels had on the pop culture was that they became the example of a bad movie.

- So is the new Harry Potter film really so bad?

- Well, it's no Phantom Menace but it still sucks ass...

 this.

the only genuine pop-culture moment in the PT that brought back memories of OT (post 5/21/1999) was the now-famous yoda-dooku duel in AOTC.

but thats ONLY because it was yoda.  I don;t know which forum I saw it on, but someone said lucas used yoda as a cheap applause button. not unlike having gary coleman say 'whatcha talkin bout, willis'?   still, it did bring the house down.

Vaders birth should have been another, but it looks like the noooooooo made it infamous.

does anyone think the charcaters in the PT are as pop-culture famous as the characters in the austin powers movies?

other than that, i sometimes hear duel of fates, but nearly as much as any of the OT music.

so much for the apologists claim that the PT will be revisited as a classic like blade runner.

sadly, the PT's claim to fame is its ineptitude.  Or, more accurately - a fall from grace.  Its the poster child for the proverbial 'cgi crap-fest'.  maybe green lantern will take the mantle now.

What's wrong with CGI?

nothing wrong with cgi as long as its used properly.  when you drown out a movie with excessive cgi thats completely unrealistic, thats a problem.  or if you have a disproportionate focus on cgi at the expense of every other aspect of filmmaking, thats a problem.  hence 'crap-fest'

The only influence I've seen have all originated from TPM. As when people talk about Star Wars they're always referencing the OT but you'll sometimes hear the term padawan or Darth Maul mentioned. So far those have been the only things I've heard brought up in day to to day life. On multiple occasions as well.

Padawan has been heard from C.S.I. to Angel to Venture Bros and other cartoons.  Palpatine is also referenced.  The cartoon, Fanboy and Chum Chum, the janitor's named Poopatine.  A whole episode full of SW references.  The double edge lightsaber and parts of the Maul/QuiGon fight are referenced.  And some positive Jar-Jar references are appearing.  (Big Bang Theory & Simpsons)  Sith is tossed around a bit.  Amidala clothing/appearance from TPM is referenced.

Sith has been around for a while before the prequels though.....

Yeah, but who knew that outside of the extreme nerd demographic?

In all fairness, the Simpsons did lampoon the endless senate scenes in Phantom Menace.

Where were you in '77?

I was wondering when it was coming to an end.

Anyways, i see more people dressed up as darth maul rather then Vader now adays. I think that one scene in ROTS made him look like a wuss. Sadly, i agree.

Which only comes off as the pot calling the kettle black. But I digress ...

You can still buy three or four different styles of Vader costume in any Halloween or costume shop. I usually don't see Maul.

Bad movies and too much cgi, bad scripts and bad acting.

Did they influence those.  Like in the new star trek, or Avatar?

Maybe they influenced Bayformers too, who knows.

They certainly had a corrupting and ruining influence on  Indiana Jones IV.

Decades from now film scholars will look back on this era and point to the prequels as quintessential examples of how storytelling suffered at the expense of CGI, CGI, and more CGI.

You didn't like Avatar? Funny the critics said the same thing yet it made a crap load of money. They only put it down because half of it was CGI, but i thought it was very well done.

Now a days though, for characters, they usually put the actors in the special outfits and record them doing the movements. That way they can get the movements right when they do the computer modeling. So, it really is the actors moving in the shots, only they're covered the with the CGI.

I saw all the Indie's and i have to say, the only one i enjoyed was the very first one. The rest just seeemed to have dragged on.

Decades from now we'll have flying ships with lasers and better camera controls/movements so there'll be no need for it.

They said that in the 1940s!

Yeah, so did the SW prequels. I didn't hate Avatar but it's really not that great IMO.

Avatar was fucking awful. Sure, the "special effects" were good, but it was a terrible, rehashed story that had no depth whatsoever. Red Letter Media reviewed that, too, and as usual hit the nail on the head.

I like Indie music, although it's such a broad category that it's hard to really use it as a classification.

I wonder what the very first Indie album was...

I'd love to listen to more Indie music myself - I'm sick to dead of the shit the mainsteam industry is putting out. But I don't know where to beginning looking for some I'd like =(

You mean as compared to how other special effects styles bring out the best in story telling, like stop motion "Jason and the Argonauts" being nothing but a series of loosely strung together set pieces with no ending, or how class puppets gave us finely crafter epics like "Critters" and "Ghoulies?

and men in suits gave us gripping dramas like "Gamera" and "Battle of the Gargantuas?"

And we can never forget touching character studies like "Robot Jox."
