so the video stream from my mkv comes out as ".h264" format. I can't open that with anything. Anyone know what my next step should be? I figure it needs to be mp4/move, but it doesn't come out that way.

You might want to take this into the technical help forum to avoid taking your thread off-topic, but basically if you mux the extracted h264 raw stream into an .m2ts transport stream (with tsmuxer) or an .mp4 container (with YAMB), then Vegas should then be able to open it.

That's all I needed. Thank you very much.

The tone poem probably won't fit anywhere, but it is seriously awesome. I've never seen that before.

I'm just trying to make Grievous more sinister. I think a more Darth Maul-like voice, maybe a bit less calm and controlled, would sell him better.

I've got 3 days off this weekend, time to get down to it. I'll post some of what I work on.

Jumping in late into this thread, but I like the idea of Naboo discovering a new energy source, and the Trade Federation invading in order to take over the lucrative resource, finance the Separatist movement.

The new energy source can be located in the completely out of place generator core that the Duel of the Fates occurs in. This area could be some sort of mining facility for the new fuel source. It's more modern than the rest of Naboo because it is a recent construction compared to everything else on the planet which displays the rich history of a traditional society.

For a real ambitious faneditor perhaps some backgrounds from the droid factory can be added into the generator core scene to make it look more like a place where precious ore is collected. I don't know how feasible that is.

This idea would give a more palatable explanation why the Trade Federation singled out Naboo. Thoughts?

Yes. But no Droid Factory backgrounds. I'm not capable of that.

Great news Spence :) cant wait to see what have you done so far :)

The most common awesome idea that still cant solve the idiotic moments with the energy doors :/

I suggested that either with some FX work you can make the sabers manage to make the mechanism go mad or either have maul using the force to crush the door panel (for some reason i guess)

I m eager what spence will come up with.

The energy doors are a complete head scratcher for sure. A holding cell for the source of the new energy which is some cheezy B-flick energy monster living at the bottom of the giant hole that Maul falls into? lol

I posted that before you posted this:

What if that bottomless pit spews out energy, and the doors keep the excess heat contained?

It's not really something I could do, but what if when the doors are closed we get some energy emission, maybe something that looks similar to the explosion after the Emperor is tossed into the bottomless pit in his office in ROTJ?

Then there's at least a vague reason for the doors to exist, and it plays into the new energy source concept.

Good point. Still somehow you have to establish that...im afraid with new shots and some FX work.

And a happy puffy clouded planet like naboo im sure it will have some dark rooms with fires and exhaust ports(over two meters) ;)

Force manipulation of the doors makes sense, and workable in the context that Maul is trying to distance himself from Qui-Gon, but it still doesn't explain why they are actually there in the first place. An energy emission/exhaust barrier actually gives them a function, but we would have to somehow explain why the exhausting stops when the lightsaber battles happen in the room.

You can have an impressive burned maul like the poor romulan in JJ's star trek. Fire emits from the pit.

Still such a big fire or energy somehow has to be established.(not that the actors are totaly calm and paying no attention to any energy leaks.

Either way you can add a plot point that actualy the feds were overload the reactor so all can blow to hell and one from two padmes were there to prevent that...

Well, I don't know that Jedi would allow themselves to be distracted by some energy releasing. I don't think it has to be a huge effect. It could look pretty cool though.

AND I could get rid of the cheesy CGI Maul splitting in half. He could start to fall down the pit, then an energy blast could engulf him. Obi-Wan watches, the blast stops, he switches off the lightsaber and runs to Qui-Gon. Badass.

Sounds fair. I cant wait to see how it will blend with the rest of the story/plot elements :)

Like the majority of the original Ep1 plot, the energy plotline would be established in the opening crawl I would suspect.

If Maul were to survive being sliced in half and falling into the energy pit, one would surmise that he would be coughing all the time (lung damage) and would need a ton of mechanical work *coughGrievouscough*.

This is not a new idea to make Maul into Grievous, but just adds more to the character's tale, and brings full circle Obi-Wan's first fight in Ep1 and their final battle in Ep3.

This is definitely being considered. It depends how well I think it can blend when I get to Episode III. I will leave the option open. If it fits nicely, I'll use the idea, but I don't want to force it in.

I sent you an email, Spence. Just so you know...

Why is Angel now typing all in bold?  Is this his version of ALL CAPS DAYV?

I think the energy plot is do-able, between the crawl and some creative Neimoidian dubbing.

I'm thinking about dubbing Darth Maul as well, as if I do change the grievous voice in III and I want to use the idea of them being one and the same, the voice will need to sync up.

Its interesting how you can pull this off. I mean there are rare moments you can see to peter serafinowicz talking in the movie. Battle quotations is a nice touch if you consider this idea. more like vader vs luke sort of thing

I'm not entirely sure how that's all going to work out. I want to focus on getting the story structure down first. I may or may not dub Maul, but definitely the Neimoidians. I gotta try and erase Jar Jar from everything as well, which might be tricky. Specifically in the scene where the Jedi jump off the overpass to save the Queen. It'll be really hard to cut around him there.

I'm going to add in the Anakin beating up Greedo scene, but I'll leave out mention of that being Greedo. He's just some kid.

I'm also going to trim the podrace down a bit and add music.

The fight at the end will resemble how I cut it for Duel of the Fates, minus the new music.

Author
Time

I just posted this in the Radical Redux thread, but I think it's relevant to this cut, given that you want to make Phantom into a stand-alone, swashbuckling adventure flick.

How about replacing all the Sidious holograms with Darth Maul holograms? It'd make him into the primary antagonist, allowing you to end the film with his death and the failure of his scheme to conquer Naboo.

Author
Time

I quite like that, but I want there to be a hint of Sidious in there so it has some lead in to the other prequels. What if we only see Sidious when Maul talks to him on Naboo?

If I just remove the face from the Sidious Holograms and add a new voice, it should work well. Then it'll be a great moment when our shadowy antagonist pulls dowm his hood to reveal he's got badass horns on his head.

I like it. I like it a lot.

Author
Time

Will you be cutting that scene of Maul and Sidious together on Coruscant?

That would also help establish that the antagonist has a mysterious master who we'll come to know in the next two films.

The conversation between Yoda and Mace at the cremation will also help beg the question, "Is this really over?"

Yes. How is this for a start?

Turmoil has engulfed the
Galactic Republic. The small planet
Of Naboo has discovered a powerful
New source of energy deep in the
core of their planet.

While most of the galaxy celebrates
Their discovery, the greedy Trade
Federation has blockaded the planet,
Wanting the source for themselves.

While the congress of the
Republic endlessly debates
this alarming chain of events,
the Supreme Chancellor has
secretly dispatched two Jedi
Knights, the guardians of
peace and justice in the
galaxy, to settle the conflict...
