So younger George knew that the audience didn't need to hear what he was thinking to understand the scene. I'm really surprised that this comment made it onto the Blu-Ray, unless adding the No's was a last minute decision when everything else was finished.

Young George knew a LOT of things that his current incarnation seems to have totally forgotten or completely disregarded. I wouldn't be surprised if adding the "no's" was a last minute decision; the sound bytes themselves are nothing more than alternate takes of JEJ's "NOOO" for ROTS that they had lying around. Doesn't take a lot of thought or effort to plaster those into a classic scene to mess it up.

I'll never understand why George seems to think he needs to hold the audience's hand now. "I can't have Han shoot first, people will think he's a bad guy!" "I have to show how Vader got back to his ship, people don't know what 'Bring my shuttle' means." "People need to know without a doubt what Vader is thinking, so let's have him express his emotions."

George. Mr Lucas. We've had these movies for almost 30 years, we've never had a problem understanding what was going on. We never thought for the first 20 years that Han was a bad guy. We didn't care how Vader got to his ship. And we knew that Vader was actually experiencing the conflict Luke has mentioned to him after he was captured. I'm pretty sure the next generation can figure it out as well.

You hit the nail on the head, doubleofive. Can he also not see that the changes mess things up - like how the stupid "traveling to the SSD" completely obliterates the pacing and tension in the "rescue" scene?

Someone advanced the theory that this started when he began making the movies (or changes) for his kids, and he just never stopped even though they grew up.

Listening to the archival interviews commentary track for ROTJ it is pretty funny what George Lucas says about the scene where Vader pick up the Emperor now that he has added Vader's Nooooooo's:

Acting with masks is a very ancient tradition. It's the emotion of the story that can carry you through and the nature of cinema that you can switch shots you put on either side of the mask that tell you what the mask is thinking.

Wait, that wasn't the 2004 commentary? That's the old one?

Well according to the set-up menu of the Blu-Ray it is the archival commentary.

My point still stands: There is now an official release that has Lucas' revising himself as you watch it.

Beautiful, isn't it? George makes art from irony the way some make it from iron.

This could be a motif for the set, Lucas is using this material to let everyone know where the deliberate creative decision occur.  Previous example:

Sounds like Lucas completely misunderstood Japanese Noh Theatre. That's just what it's called, George, they don't actually have to *say* it.

^If the masks were designed by Roger Dean and scene scored by Rick Wakeman, George would have a Yes And Noh Arrangement.

Why would he attempt to fix things that actually could use a fix?

Nice to see that shot is fixed. Seeing the wooden pylons under the sail barge set was out of place :)

I also noticed that they fixed a glitch in AOTC. After we see the shot when the two guys are talking to the queen in the ship, the following shot has a fly by in the clouds. The last frame of it had one fog layer off in the HDTVs.

Its pretty bad the the fake shaking camera effect glitch is still unfixed (why you took so long scene) You can see the black bars next to obi and anakin :/

Yeah, I actually like that change, although I haven't seen it in motion, OR how it blends with the other shots that come before and after it. My judgement might change after that, I'm not sure.

But the framing in the shot looks more dynamic and visually interesting compared to the "flat" framing of the original. Hmm...

What does the use of an alternate take imply about transfers, scanning, cleanup, etc?
It does bring about a good point. Someone decided that this shot which was chosen by the editor 28 years ago wasn't good enough, so they went back to the original takes and chose an alternate one. Why? How?

I am just a Star Wars '77 fan, so there is no way I buying this set.  I am annoyed by the changes to the original, but regardless it is still my favorite movie of alltime.

I am wondering do you think anyone will be selling the movies individually on Ebay?  I remember places like Gamestop used to sell used DVD's (people would trade them for store credit), I wonder if they are selling used BluRays, and maybe I can only buy the Original Star Wars there.

I have to say I really feel bad for fans of all 3 OT movies, because I just found out about the NOOOO change, and Lucas has made Jedi even worse then it was in 1983!  The reason I can still enjoy the Original Star Wars (Special Edition) is that there is no Prequel crap in there like Hayden in Jedi.  It annoys me to see Greedo shooting first, and CGI Jabba, but its not enough to ruin the movie.  Now if Lucas got rid of Luke looking at the Binary Sunset, or even touched the medal ceremony at the end, then the movie would be ruined.

But I do respect you guys for not buying this set, or even the OT Boxset.

I’m an original member here dating back to 2004. Haven’t posted in years, but looking forward to posting again.
