Who says we haven't!
And then Star Wars. We were one of the only people that had a pirated copy of Stars Wars on U-matic tapes. We had Stars Wars on three U-matic tapes. I was kind of king of the cool kids amongst the geeks, because they would all come to my house to watch on this giant “U-matic” player.

I saw Star Wars in 1977. Many, many, many times. For 3 years it was just Star Wars...period. I saw it in good theaters, cheap theaters and drive-ins with those clunky metal speakers you hang on your window. The screen and sound quality never subtracted from the excitement. I can watch the original cut right now, over 30 years later, on some beat up VHS tape and enjoy it. It's the story that makes this movie. Nothing? else.

David Bowie. I hate him. He has no talent whatsoever.
So overrated and weird looking, too.
What is it with this forum and David Bowie? :-/
Also, just out of curiosity, why is he considered less weird on this forum than Secret of NIMH? I'm not complaining. Just asking. Juuuuust asking.
The franchises I get nerdy about are so obscure that not even most nerds know about them.

When you are older you will understand.

This is about the weirdest Bowie gets:

With cheap Halloween costumes, even Indiana Jones looks creepy. ;)
But, whatever. You win. End of conversation.

I think I saw that costume in person once. (And it's not a cheap Halloween getup!) Can't recall what NIMH movie character it's supposed to be?
Where were you in '77?

Nicodemus. Even if it's not cheap, I think making costumes out of animated characters is a big no-no. It's like making a costume out of the penguin in my avatar. There are no real specs, so it'll never look right. 'Course, ever since I became an Indiana Jones fan, I've never worn anything to Halloween except my close-enough Indy Gear.
And why, oh, why can't I keep NIMH a Secret? >:(
Let me try this again: SECRET OF NIMH DISCUSSION ENDS HERE!!!
So... What's U-Matic?

off-topic: for those who don't know Kino Video, they work with a lot of public domain movies (Phantom of the Opera, Nosferatu etc) and their releases are considered rather high quality. They're the guys who currently release the restored versions of Metropolis.

Someday, I'll move on to another obsession. That day will come. Mark my words!

Yes they restored the premiere cut of metropolis, and are releasing the Moroder version next.
They actually care a bit more than Lucasfilm when it comes to film preservation and the presentation of the movies on DVD/blu ray.
Like Criterion or Warner bros, despite warners making some mistakes they are nowhere as bad as Lucas and his army of folks that cannot get anything right.
“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.
I don't know anything about this U-matic format, would it look better than Laserdisc?
Heck, would it even be widescreen?
This signature uses Markdown syntax, which makes it easy to add formatting like italics, bold, and lists:
Less Star Wars, moar David Bowie!
Doubtful.

The widescreen pre-ANH bootleg (discussed here) was originally from a U-Matic tape.

While we're on Bowie, I'd just like to say I used to mishear "Fame! Makes a man take things over!" as "Pain! Take some ammo, make things over!"
Anyone else ever have any weird mishearings of Bowie lyrics?

YES.
In Space Oddity, I always thought he said "And the papers want to show who showed you where..." when he actually says "And the papers want to know who's shirts you wear..."
This would make for a good thread.
