Awesome covers Harmy ! I'm nitpicking but I think it'd be better to use the stormtrooper's helmet for Star Wars and Vader for episode 6 because the stormtroopers are way more threatening in the first movie and Vader's role is more important in Jedi.

The problem with that is two fold. It was the most climatic scene in the first film and also Obi Wan is in the eye lenses. When I look at these covers what I see is that "they" are looking at. I think they are perfect. I do think the spine is a little crowded with the Despecialized edition on it as the top front has that already. But other than that I think they are the most original Star Wars covers I have ever seen.

I nabbed the Star Wars Despecialized v1.0 and must say it was incredible!

So I was wondering how the DVD-5 of Empire looks as compared to Adywan's Theatrical Reconstruction (not just faithfulness to the original, but also in terms of detail, compression artifacts, etc)

Just wondering if it's worth getting yet another Empire DVD.

Anyone with Mac have success burning the AVCHD of Empire to a DVD-DL with Mac?

Jedi came as an ISO which I burnt through Disk Utility and it played on by Blu-Ray player just fine.

Tried making an ISO and DVD-ROM of the main folder and then burn to DVD-DLs with this and the straight ISO creation didn't work in the Blu-Ray player and the DVD-ROM failed on burn.  Right now I'm out of discs so I can't try again.

I pulled the folder into Toast (using making an HD DVD disc) and it claimed my DVD-DLs were too small, which I know is hogwash and besides even when I try to make an image, Toast is agonizingly slow.

The link for the picasa comparisons isn't working, is it down or?

Weird, the address must have changed or something. Anyway, it should be working now.

Is there a problem with the SD download?  Several of the sites say 'file not found'.  I have gotten about 1/4 of the way through and it has stopped.  Also it seems pretty big for a SD release.  The total is 16.4 GB and I have 4.07 GB.  Thanks!

It is on Multiupload, so these are mirrors, you need to look at file names and only DL each once.

Harmy - just wanted to come on here and say thank you so much for doing these: after the whole blu-ray fiasco I heard about these and have not been disappointed at all! Bravo!

Yes I got all the parts.  I finished watching it earlier today.  Great work!  Thanks!

I'm loving Star Wars De-Spec'd --- Can't wait to get ESB and RTJ!!  TehParadox is down currently though, dammit!!!

You rock, Harmy!

I asked this in another thread, but remembered it should be asked here.

So you mentioned using the puggo strikes back for a revised edition of ESB. What shots did you not find satisfying and felt had to be changed? As far as I see it, ESB looks awesome as it is.

Well, the are a few more things I'd like to Despecialize - some of the Hoth battle shots and Falcon coming to cloud city and some of these shots had really bad DVNR smearing on them in the GOUT, so Puggo's version should be much better for those.

Also, I recently learned that there is many more of those zoomed in cockpit shots, so I might try and do those too.

Nice work Harmy, I am currently upscaling this to 1920 x 816 divx file at 24fps. Just a question about the soundtracks, what is the best one to use? I only want to use one in my upscale. I'm not really a dolby digital surround-phile so is the 1980 mix good enough or does it have limitations? Thanks.

I'd probably recommend going with the 5.1 mix or the 93 mix. The way I understand it is that the 1980 mix is from an lesser source.

May I ask what is the point of upscaling it though? When you re-encode, you always loose some quality and your Blu-Ray or media player is capable of upscaling it as you go without any loss of quality due to yet another recompression.

M2ts files play havoc with my media player and anything remotely resembling a search or rewind with these files totally confuses it. So I thought 'a conversion to avi and why not upscale to my tv's resolution while i'm at it!' Actually i've nearly finished the encode one more pass tonight (5 passes in total, 23 hours encoding time) and i've compared on my computer with the original and I can barely see any difference. Thanks for advice on the sound track.

ps ROTJ next ;)

You used the GOUT for shots of the Hoth battle? I didn't know that there were any changes to it apart from the recomped effects...

 hey harmy,

are you taking requests?

if so one thing i'd like to see is some of the laser blasts on the hoth battle rotoscoped in.  alot of the laser blasts don't look red any more in the 2004 editions.  they look more white/yellow and are hard to see with the hoth snowy backgrounds

Well, most Hoth battle shots were recomped, I didn't use GOUT, I just kept the SE ones. In v2.0, I'd like to replace some of them using PSB.

I'm afraid you may have to reDL, no one else reported similar problems.

Use better quality discs. Verbatim DVD+R DL are the best.

Please forgive me if this has been asked previously - I've only just discovered these edits and I am very interested in checking them out.

Are you planning on releasing any newer versions or updates any time soon for any of your despecialized versions? I think I read you were planning on working on a 1.2 version of Star Wars? I am wondering if it is better to wait until you have made any changes or are these versions considered final?

Author
Time

Well, v1.2 of STAR WARS is indeed being worked on now but it won't be done for quite a while and I do plan to do v2.0 of ESB but that's months down the line.

i'm redownloading now. i did have to stop the esb download originally because i hit the download limit i think? so i closed jdownloader and started it again the next day, so i'm thinking maybe the file got corrupted. because i tried burning 3 times and it failed at the same exact spot each time.
