On another subject, I'm kinda amused by the reaction to the blu-rays, while the NOOOOOOOO!!! is indeed a horrible change and ruins the scene (and I swear it has to be George giving us the finger, why else would he add the most ridiculised moment of the prequels?), the movie was ruined long ago, it's no worse than Hayden's ghost. Or Boba's voice in Empire. It's strange that for some reason this is the last straw for some people.

Ding!

Boba's voice and Hayden in ROTJ were the last straw for me, this is just rubbing lemon juice and salt in the wound.

Here's the review I posted on Amazon:

In 1978, Star Wars was nominated for 10 academy awards (including best picture, best screenplay, best supporting actor, etc.) ultimately winning 7 including awards for editing, sound mixing, and special effects. The AFI lists "Star Wars" as #15 on its list of all time greatest films. Make no mistake, this isn't just a fun romp, it is a very significant and important film.

Understand that the version in this box set is NOT that version, but a version that has been largely painted over with 21st century computer graphics, does NOT include the academy-award-winning sound mix, and with many different and more recent editing decisions. On this version, the effects and edits you see may be from 1977, or they might be from 1997, or maybe 2004, or maybe 2011... they might be the original academy-award-winning animatronics of Stears Dykstra, Edlund, and McCune that have never been equaled, or they might have been replaced by dated-looking 1990s computer-graphics, or they might be new things that were thrown in a couple of months ago. The choice of scenes and editing of those scenes might be the academy-awarding winning ones made by Paul Hirsch and Marcia Lucas, or they might be newer ones made by people who are preparing the movie for future 3D-a-rama. The glorious academy-award-winning sound mix by MacDougall, West, Minkler and Ballhas remains unavailable and has been replaced here by a completely different, over-compressed one that is unlikely to have won an academy award in 1978, let alone today, and wherein the young remixer even inserted his own voice.

In short, this release not only fails utterly to preserve a major artifact of our cinematic heritage, it goes further in that its producer has made it clear that he will never allow that seminal work to be accurately preserved. This is not simply a bad product, it is a serious blow to art history and to our popular cultural heritage.

Right on Brother Puggo. Right on.

I'd prefer to pay the man for it though.

Same here. As odd as it may sound these George hating days, I'd love to be able to go out and purchase an HD OUT and say to myself, "Thanks George, you're an alright guy!"

Amem. As far as I'm concerned Lucas has $90 of my money earmarked for him and a big smile as soon as he lets me buy those good movies he made.

We don't have every right to take whatever we want and none of it is rightfully ours.

Fan preservation of the original versions is one thing, and I'm very much in favor of it.  However, being deprived of a high quality version of the original films doesn't make it ok to steal.

As you mentioned yourself, people gave money to Lucas for the inferior versions - versions they knew were inferior when they bought them.  Lucas didn't go into their homes while they were at work, take the money, and leave SEs on the kitchen counter.

Back in the 2004 I didnt know what I bought until it shipped and once I saw the horror on the internet it was too late. I bought GOUT willingly but I was still being forced to buy it with 2004. If it wasnt for the leaks you wouldn’t know what you are getting before hand with this set. They even bluntly lied about what you are getting (fixes they said have been done but havent been). I wasnt going to buy this blu ray anyways because theres  no UOT and these movies are unwatchable(now even more so) but somebody may expect to get 2004 version of the film and was duped again. All Im saying is that fans need to grow some balls and sometimes break the law if the law  is a way one street that is letting a person with power abuse it.  Nobody with any integrity  should support this crap and shouldnt have to be forced to spend this much money for deleted scenes. If everybody thinks Im a thief because Im going to download deleted scenes then so be it. Let me ask all of you this lets say Georgie boy wants to fuck around with fans some more and releases for example ROTJ with Jabbas palace restored from the GOUT but leaves the rest of the movie with the new changes would you buy it again so you could use the restored first act of the Jedi. If that is true then he has you by the balls and can play you like a puppet. I rather be a thief( I don’t think I am) then this kind of sheep.

Holy hell these are hilarious - too many to link directly here.

Predictions for additional changes:

That is serious

I like it

Always thinking ways to get rid of it and fix it. this solution is plausible !

but see, this is where the Lucas thing kicks in,  instead of removing that 'blink and you miss it' shot of the stormtrooper bumping his head,  lets make out it was a deliberate part of the film and incorporate other scenes of Troopers or their cloned counterparts bumping their heads, into all of the films  YAY!!!!

Ladies and gentlemen, it has come to this for me: at this point I would not get the OOT even if it was given a proper release. I'll stick with the GOUT, for better or worse. Lucas does not deserve any further support. None.

So, yeah, this shit has finally made me crazy

I thought it was a more sensible joke change (it's so difficult to tell these days).

If it isn't the ANH Redux Thread is the place to go with this one.

I quite like the idea that it was left in because it's the sort of daft thing real people do which makes the Star Wars universe feel real despite the fantasy.

I wouldn't have made a big thing of it though (especially not to stretch it out over other films).

For me, the worst visual change that surfaced so far is this:

That is one ugly CGI addition :-/ He looks so unbelievably out of place and the quality of the CGI is terribly 90s (I guess that would be because it is 90s CGI...)

RE: The Dug.

It's no more daft than much of the PT stuff, it's lazy that he is wearing the same clothes that the Dug in AOTC is wearing but as Beedo wears a mixture Greedo's outfit and Leia's Hoth outfit and speaks Greedo's ANH lines in the theatrical version it's not that jarring with ROTJ.

It looks less uniformly pink that's for sure.

The general outrage over this release is really starting to get a lot of coverage. It was even mentioned on my local morning radio talk show today. Needless to say, they were not in favor of the NOOOOOOOOO!

And we are still about 2 weeks away from the release - this can only grow bigger. I need to get some "Save Star Wars" stickers soon!

Is it wrong for me to admit I've been rolling in the schadenfreude lately? Thanks George, we're all preservationists now.

Like I said, I really think this is Lucas' New Coke moment.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

It really is problem i don’t see why you cant just download it. This MF has been fucking with us for far too long and legitimacy is not an issue here.  Everyone on this boards have spent more than enough money supporting SW thru out the years (and being treated like shit in the process) and I feel we have every right to take whatever we feel like. I know most people can find these discs on the torrent sites but if someone is not able to I will personally make it my mission to provide links to anyone who PMs me when these are out. Its not about supporting piracy its about taking whats rightfully ours and giving George long overdue middle finger.

This is a good way of getting this site shut down.  I understand that you're frustrated, but please review the rules of the forum before posting.

Would we be able to sue lucas? It said in the trailers to 'Own every Minute' and that's false advertising, because 'Every Minute' isn't there.

I wrote my Amazon review.  For what it's worth.  Certainly not well-written. :P

"While Lucas and his wacky crew were busy pasting in new "Nooooo!'s" and extra rocks in front of R2D2 (how'd he get back there, anyway?!), they must have forgotten to fix all of the lightsaber color errors created in the 2004 DVD's. Oh wait.....they said they did?

Two shots. Those are the only ones they fixed. Just the two shots they used in the press release........um.........WHY? People on YOUTUBE make consistent lightsaber effects. Jeesh.

Not to mention that this still has all the bad color-timing (blue Hoth) that they did for the DVD's."

Yes it's against the rules of this site and I pity anyone who would want to risk breaking the law to obtain these awful versions.

I deleted the first post. All i was saying is please dont buy this crap because you need something from the release(deleted scenes etc.) You can get it some other way and have no reason to feel guilty about it.

Look, here's my view.

If you want to buy this set, fine.  But don't buy it new.  Buy it used, so Lucas doesn't see a cent of your hard-earned money and you're not contributing to the sales figures of the set.

Or do like me and just borrow it from a friend.   I'm betting a good percent of people here know someone stubborn enough to still buy this set.

so creepy. the Ewoks don't need pupils. it just makes them look really creepy. that's the stuff that nightmares are made of.

maybe Lucas will have nightmares of the new Wicket from now on. :)

I'd rather the Ewoks look creepy than like teddy bears.
