I enjoyed the changes to the trilogy so far, except for the addition of Jedi Rocks, the Jabba scene in '97, and the burping frog in ROTJ.

Er, the burping frog (worrt) wasn't a special edition...addition. It's always been in there.

Wasn't it exaggerated in the SE? I guess it's been a while since I've watched my original VHS tapes.
The wipe from it was redone in 97, which indicates that they might have recomposited the matte.

It would be interesting hear which new changes are 'salvageable' some of them clearly are not but is there anything new worth keeping or working on?

That's why I'd like to hear what's done to the PT. There might be some good changes to those.

Depends on your purpose. For things like Revisited, Ewok-Eyes might be worth keeping. The lack of Humdinger is probably worth keeping, depending on the quality of the fix.

The Humdinger should be able to be fixed by pasting the Death Star surface from the frame before or after, I believe.

I was never one of those guys that whined about every little change in '97 and '04 ...but this time? ... Cancelled pre-order.

You're not alone. Many people online are saying that they have cancelled their pre-orders, and this time it's not just the purists.

I doubt it'd be enough to make a dent in the astronomical profits that the set will make though. I wish I could feel like this is a slow burn kind of thing and this is a sort of last straw that'll put a lot of people onto our side, but the reality is that it's probably the opposite, the final nail in the coffin.

Like samlark, I don't even care if GL gets the message or not. I just don't have the energy to care any more. I don't like being this angry about movies, so I'll just stick with my old multiple copies and be happy.

I'm sure this will still sell really well, because 98% of the purchases will come from people who won't even notice most of the changes. Whatever. Well done, Georgie-boy. **Sigh**

I just got a widescreen LED a couple of days ago. A cute little 32 inch one. The GOUT does not look that bad on it actually. Not great mind you, but watchable.

I'm going to be all right, I'm going to be all right...

the Ewok eyes, that's fucking creepy. The idea is pretty good to be honest (for a SE that is) because the Ewoks look awfully fake and this will make them more alive. But the execution is not that great, it really does make him look creepy.

I agree. The eyes don't look right for Ewoks. They should look more like a bears eyes IMO.

You would think we would all be numb by now to the effects of George's idiocy. Yet he can still hurt us.

I've hurt you, and I want to continue...hurting you. Buried alive. Buried alive...

Can I just ask, how hard is it to have 2 copies of the films on each disc (a HD version of the theatrical version and then a copy of the updated/CGI version of the film)

Has Lucas really made it impossible for that to happen?

The ewok eyes are not that bad. It's a subtle fix that adds to the believability. It says a lot though about Lucasfilm's priorities. I'm not surprised - I had a feeling George wouldn't be able to help himself.

This is a lot like 2004 all over again: the movies are long overdue on the latest home video format. Finally! But what the hell are all these changes!? They must be fake. This is an outrage. The originals must be preserved.

I think we'll be seeing a lot of new people joining OT.com as a result of this release.

Well, with all the changes he's done to the audio and video(including color timing) it'd be impossible to do seamless branching. So it'd either be two discs(disc 1- Special Edition, Disc 2- Theatrical, Etc.) or two really badly compressed cuts.

I also cancelled my preorder. I don't need this movies. I don't need anything from Lucas anymore.

I was so hyped about this release and now I feel just raped.

Agreed! Everyone should post one star reviews in protest. I have never done this before, but I will this time.

Wonder how fast will LFL be able to take down the deleted scenes from youtube once they start showing up. I really don't want to buy this fucking thing just for them.

I've been thinking about the deleted scenes. They are interesting I guess, but if I never see them it won't kill me. The whole "Wow, deleted scenes!" was cool at the beginning of the DVD era, but I've come to realize that most were deleted for good reason and are little more than curiosities.

The main reason for buying DVD, blu-ray, digital copies etc. for me is that they don't wear out as fast as tape. All the extra stuff is really "meh". Even most director's commentaries suck. At best I listen once and that is it.

Having said that, if the Star Wars blues (pun intended) had new commentary tracks - say with Harrison, Carrie, and Mark together all in the same commentary (not spliced together) - then it would be a real shame that I had to pass on it due to George's continued idiocy.
