Not sure if it's been mentioned before but someone made an alternate end to ANH on Youtube here with Vader and the Emperor. The other two parts here and here also have more Vader scenes added to ANH. Has this been mentioned before?

Only if you are in the wrong country. ;-)

It might be good to add a little heat haze effect.

Still, still mucking, with help from Angel:

Non center objects and more used universe:

They tie in pretty well.

Compare to a more advanced deathstar

Every view screen will have its own angle following the actor's POV.

Its amazing how more dynamic a shot looks from a different angle.....Angel....angleAngel......

Re-positioned shots like these would definitely be in the new edit...if I ever get round to it..... ;)

Call me a bit thick but isn't the hatch for the escape pod in the nose and yet the entrance seems to be at the thruster end?

Shouldn't it eject the other way around (it would tie in with the view the droids have of the Star Destroyer)?

We don't see any thruster glow from their window.

Is it a window?

Is it a view screen (which would explain the blue screen paint on the location prop)?

I'm not sure if there would be that much room between the pod bay door and the hull for the sort of metal work in your mock up Angel.

It would be nice if you could work out how the release mechanism sits in the ship and use that as the basis for any addition to the shot.

Well. I thought about that. Still the reference are not to be trusted the window seems to be at the side:

Who image to trust:P

I might agree that its a paradox or even we assume the pod seals with the engine section offscreen. Or they enter from the sideways and the movie never explained more on where or what is happening (too focused on the story folks?)

Again see bellow on the spaceballs shot that the door is in the correct place.

I'm not sure if there would be that much room between the pod bay door and the hull for the sort of metal work in your mock up Angel.

Well that shot is short of impossible. It supposed that camera sits in after the closed door and we assume we see some of the mechanisms of the ship behind the walls.

Plus the same treatment was given in Spaceballs with very much more detail.

When 3po and r2 enters the pod room its a pretty wide (horizontaly) so i can assume that some pipe and metal work can be seen artistically.

It would be nice if you could work out how the release mechanism sits in the ship and use that as the basis for any addition to the shot.

The shot has all shorts of problems. They walk and enter in horizontal level when the pods are on the angled section of the ship

The minimum mechanisms that release the pod are enough apart we screw the shot and remake it from scratch.

Also we never got what this back wall is. A door A hatch a passage?

Its clearly missing in the long shot with 3po before he gets blasted.

I'm just wondering (if it were to be redone from scratch) if it would make more narrative sense if the window was on the entrance hatch.

That way the droids could get the point of view of the ship we already see as the pod is dropped and the planet's gravity pulls the pod down.

You could also turn the shot around so a windowed hatch door shuts infront of the the camera and we could see the droids through the window as the pod is launched.

A bit like this Doctor Who scene and the similar scene from Solaris it's largely pinched off.

It could then turn to face the other way via thruster bursts for the tumble to the planet.

Quick trivia: Is anyone else noticed that luke's head appears behind R2 D2 when the falcon first get shot and lights are fading off and on? He appears in 3-4 frames and i suggest that he should be removed from that shot.

-Angel

I know I'm a little late, but... yes, someone else noticed ;)

59. There's a shot of R2 and 3PO in the curved seat on the Falcon. Look closely behind Artoo - for a few frames at the end, a head (probably Luke) appears. I've painted it out.

I love the top pic! The second one, not as much. (I'll refer to it's updated version you recently posted and I hope this comes off as constructive, which is how it's intended.) The left of the shot looks to empty and it throws the weight of the shot off. Also, the two domed buildings look too copy/pasted- I like what you had going in the earlier version better. But most of all, to me, it looks like Luke is driving his car towards the group of buildings on the right as if he intends on ramming into them. With all the space to the left, it seems he would be driving over there. Maybe it doesn't look that way in motion?

Great job on the coloring! The color of the sand is great. The ground looks much more natural also.

Thanks Ray,

Any feedback I'll take as constructive, the original shot I did a couple of pages back here, I simply replaced the ground and I wasn't completely satisfied with.....and foolishly didn't save the project to make any alterations.

This new one I can swap out the background (but not the ground)....so we can all decide what looks best, the shot in motion should be ready tomorrow & on here.....after that I can add craft in the sky or smoke from chimneys etc

I really love this! One of the coolest mockups I've seen.

As for "Where did the enter the pod?" Isn't the square hole on the right (seen in both pics above) the door they went through? So the door on the pod would be on the side like in the diagrams.

I really dunno about the window though. Might be cool to make it a display screen like Bingo mentioned.

Good point mate. I never thought that. having that in mind it corrects a bunch of problems :)

I don't think you guys need to know this....but......

http://photoinf.com/Golden_Mean/John_Longenecker/Rule_of_Thirds.htm

Its the rule that most film-makers keep in mind

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZRXMLoCFrQ

http://halcyonrealms.com/film/rule-of-thirds-se7en-and-the-beautiful-work-of-darius-khondji/

Consciously you prefer a tidy centered image, but subconsciously your brain prefers the better composition

I'm aware of the rule of thirds, but not every shot needs to obey it. There's something really, really great about the centered pod ejection shot, and not just because it's classic Star Wars, first effects shot they filmed, etc.
