Info Wanted: Is Netflix streaming a legitimate source for preservations?

Was just wondering if anyone is considering Netflix streaming as a legitimate source for preservations.

They currently have The Keep, Quest for the Mighty Sword, and Double Trouble.

They also have Lifeforce and Erik the Viking, though I don’t know if they’re the theatrical versions or not.

Also we watched Warlock on there, and I may be wrong, but I recall it being in widescreen.

I can check the aspect ratios on the rest if anyone’s interested.

Not as exciting as my previous post, but we watched Troll 2 on Netflix the other night, and I believe it has the missing dialogue intact (pretty sure it's when the kid says "Thanks, sheriff." after being given the sandwich).

I'd love to be able to capture Netflix streams for several things - not just for stuff that's simply not available, but for other things too (like the fancy subtitles in Night Watch, or the aired versions of Buffy and Angel episodes [with previouslies intact]).

Sadly I don't think it's possible anymore...

Why wouldn't it be possible?

I could do it, but it'd be off the Wii, and the best my capture card will do is composite in 640x240.

I believe it used to be possible before they changed the method of encryption, or something like that.  All information I've found on how to do it is outdated and no longer applies.

I have no idea, though.  I'm a video editor, I don't know shit about programming or bypassing encryption or any of that crap.

Oh, you mean like downloading the actual stream file.

I was thinking more along the lines of an analogue capture (analogue bypass I think they call it?).

You used to be able to do that with hulu as well, from what i have read not anymore.

Night Watch DVD has fancy subtitles... did you mean Day Watch?

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

Why can't we just plug a 360 into a capture card?

I know I keep saying that, but nobody's explained yet.

I tried a Netflix streaming capture method that i found on a forum that uses a Firefox plugin. It didn't work. I think Netflix has blocked whatever it was that worked. So I too am wondering if a capture card would work.

How old/new was that plug-in?  It's possible that the developer is working on re-breaking the block and will update it at some point.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

It should be possible (so long as the "analogue hole" hasn't been plugged), but obviously there are losses involved in re-digitising. A direct stream capture or a pure digital (screen capture) solution would be preferable.

Right, but as I said in another thread, with the low bitrates that Netflix streams at (especially a lot of the unpopular movies, and most TV shows), I can't imagine the quality loss would be noticeable at all.

Especially considering that the alternative is not being able to capture anything.

Someone at FE is going to send me a sample of some Netflix caps that he did using a screen cap program. Fingers crossed that it looks good.
