Puggo GRANDE - 16mm restoration (Released) — Page 24

Nah, I doubt it... the bottom container has the nub, the disc sits on that. The inside of the lid has the foam pad to hold the disc on the nub. Here's a translation of the shop description:

"The nub in the bottom part fixates the CD contact-free (so without it touching the bottom). The foam pad in the lid holds the CD safely."

Very nice looking labels Laserschwert!

captainsolo, your college screenings of Puggo Grande makes me very happy. Damn, that is so cool! :)

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Sincerely, Lynne Hale publicity@lucasfilm.com

That is a cool idea for the disc case.  It is a great representation of a movie tin.  And the stickers are great!

I ran Puggo's SW at least 10 different times for the club I ran in college. Blew people away every time. And this was after I had configured the screening room with all the integrated amplifiers....made mono sound incredible.

That is really cool, and I can totally believe it went over well, some people are actually kind of starved for some authentic pre-digital 70s entertainment if given an opportunity.  (This thing is awesome Puggo, by the way)

Cannot wait to screen Puggo Strikes Back, and Return of the Puggo.

Hopefully the print sources don't have the same problems as star wars.

Some scenes on that looked overly dark and hard to see, not sure if this was because of fading.  Maybe Puggo knows, don't have any screen caps handy.

This was on the first reel.

Yes - 16mm prints can either be 'scope' or 'flat' - the latter having a cropped full-frame image.

In the listing it says it is a flat print.  I guess this means it is full frame?  I emailed the guy and asked if it was anamorphic or fullscreen and he replied that it is flat.

It would have nice colors. (It's a post '81 version.) A bit pricey for an incomplete print though.

yeah over a 1,000 bucks for something that is basically pan and scan is too high for me and most others.  I think it has been listed a few times now with no buyer.  I know it has for sure been listed twice now.

Wow, I am surprised. I don't think I could ever buy a pan/scan film for that kind of dough unless that was the original aspect ratio.

The original aspect ratio of a film can't ever be "pan/scan", because the term doesn't describe an aspect ratio. Instead - as the name suggests - it's the process of panning (and scanning) around in a frame of a wider aspect ratio, to keep an "optimal" framing in a frame with a narrower aspect ratio.

Technically the opposite (for example panning up/down in a 4:3 image, to keep a 16:9 ratio) would be pan/scan as well, as would any "smaller framing" panning around in a "larger frame". Usually though it's the thing above :D

Sorry for wiseassing ;)

I think it would resemble an early LD/DVD letterbox image instead of the full anamorphic scope 2.35:1 stretch. Not bad though.

It's still film, so there ought to be more information there than an analog video master has?

It depends. Sure if it were a pristine 16 mm print, that'd be one thing. But having been a projectionist for a number of years, 16mm prints are the bottom of the barrel in terms of quality control. As we see with the puggo grande, the image is cropped at the bottom, the second reel is pink (imo, this is probably a hastily made replacement reel. This happens often if reels are missing or damaged when returned to the distributor after projection), and it's littered with dust and scratches.

Just because it's film doesn't make it a holy grail of quality. So people have to remember that the puggo 16mm projects are an interesting, and I find, highly enjoyable project. But if you're looking for a pristine copy of the OT... Get harmy's despecialized or Dj's gout project.
