I agree with RLM that they fail as movies, but only hate certain segments of it (mostly the usual suspects from I and II).

Okay, so I'm putting you down in the 'meh' category.

Except for the Mickey Mouse Droids and the Droid Stooges.

Is there a 'likes' category? If yes, count me in, if not, just ignore my post.

I hate them! I wanted more, and I know I shouldn't...

Good thread. I think PT Yoda might have had it backward when he said "hate leads to suffering."

I think back to May 19, 1999, I skipped school (my only absence of the year) with two classmates to see a midday showing. I sat there excited to see the new Star Wars. I walked out wanting to not feel disappointed, trying to process what I just saw. It just wouldn't make sense. I became more disillusioned after II, III, and the passage of time. I certainly hate Jar Jar. I resent what they did to Star Wars. I want to ignore them, wish they never happened that way. But they're still there. Over the years I thought maybe they could be salvaged by a fan edit but have come around to thinking that is a lost cause.

Still I can't say that I hate them. Not in the sense of feeling angry if I see them on TV or burning Jar Jar in effigy.

The blue elephant in the room.

No.  There is another thread for you.  This isn't it.

MRebo and theprequelsrule, tell me if I've misjudged your comments.

I find it impossible to hate them for what they are (almost comically muddled and mediocre toy adverts).

I do loathe the missed opportunity they represent (the chance to revisit the Star Wars universe in a cinematic context).

As the official episodes 1 to 3 they were a long hungry wait for an unappetising and expensive meal, the service was lousy too.

I only watch the footage now to see what other chefs and cooks can rustle up with some of the same ingredients.

Completely ignore, with just a vague recollection of the only one I've seen.

I never hated the PT, essentially because I never thought they would be as good as the OT back in 99, so I was never disappointed.

I said in another thread if the OOT was never touched, and every SW release contained the OOT + PT, I would buy them everytime the same way I buy the Godfather Trilogy everytime even though I am not a fan of Part III.

I have always said that the irony of the Special Edition is Lucas actually created the OOT fanbase, and if he didn't fuck with the movies, I would be a saga fan even though I am not a huge fan of the PT.

Episode 1 is sort of okay as a disney kids movie but not a star wars film, Jake is annoying in the film as Anakin but at least his portrayal does not ruin Anakin/Vader in the oot at least for me.  And his portrayal in the novel by terry Brooks as a dreaming youth is much more similar to Luke in Star Wars.

Hayden not a bad kid but horribly miscast as Skywalker, and Lucas emo whiny Anakin completely ruined Vader as a awesome villain.

Again Hayden's lack of depth and experience as an actor, not his fault he was chosen.  Not his fault Lucas wrote and filmed the single thread that would either save or break the prequels the turn to the darkside.

It was done in a completely nonsencial way and did not even make sense in that owns films continuity, Anakin willing to kill all the Jedi to save padme, but then chokes her, and she dies of a broken heart i nearly left the theater i was so incensed.

No film has made me want to yell at the screen like Sith since, except Crystal Skull.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

I'm very much in line with this. But..

So I dunno where that puts me. I hated 'em and I'm sad at the missed opportunity, but *lowers sunglasses* I deal with it.

Just to clarify my position a little.

When I was seven years old Uncle George gave me an amazing present.

Ok, so my parents had to pay for me to retrieve this gift and I had to share it with the rest of the world but once I received it, it opened up a world of stories, art, music, cinema, theater, toys (of course) and too many etc's to list.

Three years later he did it again and then he sort of, kind of, promised that if I was a good boy he would do this seven or maybe ten more times every three years.

By the exciting space year 2001 or 2010 I would have a huge saga of adventures.

1983 was when it went wrong for me and Uncle George.

It's 2011 and I have two and a half good Star Wars films instead of the 9 or 12, I was lead to believe I would have.

And I hate that.

I don't hate George (how can I don't really know him) or his prequels but I hate the unfulfilled promise.

I'm still grateful for what I had (even if I'm only allowed to have those, in his now scribbled over versions) but the silly bugger had to make me believe didn't he?

TPM is okay. AOTC is less okay. I hate ROTS. None are bad, all are the biggest pile of mediocre ever devised.

I disagree.  I think all three merit the "bad" label.  But that's my opinion and I will allow you to keep your own.

As a trilogy, do I count you down as a "mostly don't care/they're sort of good"?
