For some reason, downloading from rapidshare via jdownloader actually works really fast nowadays (no waiting periods in between).

I don't know how much longer it will last before they change their policy again, so if there's stuff you need (preservations, fanedits), you better get 'em fast people! :)

I would be happy to help share the bluray project if I could get my hands on the discs. Would also be happy to donate blanks to get the actual discs :)

Well, I saw Star Wars last night. Wow... It's amazing how good Star Wars looks! :) Such clarity and detail, a great natural film grain, nice strong natural colors, too. Some scenes are so crisp and clear, it's hard to believe. If I didn't know any better, I'd think it was a commercial DVD being up-converted by my HDTV.

And the sound is just fantastic. I just love the unrestricted power and clarity of the restored Star Wars 70mm soundtrack. :) Sounds like being back in the movie theater, way to go hairy_hen! And yes, it's very cool seeing the DTS HD audio light up on the receiver. =)

The only thing I noticed was the faces were a bit redder than ideal (watched it on a high-end Panasonic plasma tv that has been pro ISF calibrated, so the colors displayed are accurate), but just a bit. But that's the price of getting the color saturation up closer to what it's supposed to be without getting into a very tedious scene-by-scene color correction. Overall, the colors are great, nice and rich. :)

The Star Wars menus look so nice, great job whoever did those (can't recall at the moment). The alien subtitles looked so good also, very authentic. Oh, and the disk played perfectly on my Panasonic 310 Blu-ray disk player,

Speaking as a Star Wars fan, you have my appreciation for this set dark_jedi, excellent work, very professional looking Blu-ray set. This has to be the finest unaltered Star Wars trilogy home video set ever released. :)

Looking forward to watching The Empire Strikes Back. :)

I feel guilty not doing a full review but I hope I can explain why I haven't.

I've watched all three movies now twice and can't find anything wrong with them. I'm not a technical person when it comes to Audio/ Video. But I can tell you all that I have been enjoying these movies now for the past few days and it has put me back like I was a teenager again. If you like the original OT then these are the cream of the crop. I still don't understand how in the hell Dark Jedi was able to IMPROVE the picture like he did. Isn't that impossible? Not for this set. They look amazing, especially coming form the GOUT, they sound amazing.

I owe Dark Jedi a debt of gratitude for finally letting me watch these movies like I wanted to all along. It is obvious that a ton of work went into to this release. Thank you for sacrificing your time and money to give this release.

However these get out, it will be worth it. The V3s alone are the end-all versions in SD. To know that these Blu editions are in the pipeline along with Puggo's ESB and ROTJ is awesome.

I'm appreciating your detailed reviews The Aluminum Falcon.  They're certainly making me anxious to see the Project Blu editions myself once they become available to the rest of us.  Any thoughts yet, from d_j or others, on how these might be disseminated (PIF? Torrent? Newsgroups? Rapidshare?)

I still have NO idea how or when these will get shared, but I can say that there will be no rapidshit upload(hate rapidshare) and definitely NO PIF, these never work, I have been around here for a long time and I have NEVER seen this work the way it was supposed to, there were ALWAYS broken links(probably the same hit and runner Fucks on torrents!)

What the hell is a PIF?

Yes, ALL covers will be available with each BD when it is made available.

I really like the bottom Set to, that is the "vintage VHS" Style.

It looks like he used the ugly brightened up 04 transfer promo pictures from the SW Blu-Ray site - that is almost heresy using those for this particular project ;-)

But I agree, I love the vintage style ones :-)

I've finished watching all 3 Blu-rays and the quality of both the video and audio is absolutely stunning on these.  It is amazing they came from those crappy bonus discs.  I noticed no errors whatsoever in my viewing.  I watched these all with my PS3.

The custom menus are incredible and I can see why dark_jedi wanted to wait until the menus were finished before sending them out.  I truly think this is as good as we're going to get unless Lucas relents and releases the GOUT on Blu-ray.

Kudos to everyone that ultimately had a hand in this set.  Thank you all so much for helping this come to fruition, particularly dark_jedi who was the driving force behind the Blu-rays.

I was out of town for a week, so I was unable to really have a good look at the blu discs until last nite. They look great, and I love the menus (and the music choices for the menus!) The multiple soundtracks are fantastic.

I did notice something odd in ESB, however, and it may or may not be something d_j will want to address if he decides to upload them at some point. Anybody who has the blu discs, please have a look and tell me if you see the same thing.....

The first thing I noticed in ESB was that it almost looks like there's a white drop shadow around the yellow letters in the scroll. The rest of the film seems fine, until the medical frigate scene. Check out Luke's face- the color of his skin bleeds off the edges of his face. It almost looks like a color newspaper pic that has one color out of registration. There's also some odd bluish outlining to the closeup of his hand, the side of Leia's face, and the collar of Lando's shirt. I checked V3 and I don't see the same anomalies there, so it must have been something that was introduced afterwards. I also noticed the same sort of 'outlining' on the faces of Imperial officers in a previous scene where Vader is talking to them on the star destroyer (the scene where they're standing near the window), but it's not quite as obvious there.

Again- have a look and tell me if you see it too. It's not a big deal- I just thought d_j might want to have a look at it if he wants to do anything with it in the future. It is odd that it doesn't *seem* to affect the rest of the film, but I may have missed it if it does.

If you have Sharpening cranked up on your display (tv) it can create rings and halos around high contrast objects.  I'm suggesting this might be caused by a setting on your hardware.  Try setting Sharpening = 0 on your tv.

Mielr, about the ESB crawl, I do see a slight white outline, but I think that's a limitation of the GOUT's resolution combined with slight edge enhancement; however, as previously said, you may have your sharpness on a bit too high, as it's not that noticeable on my TV. About the end scene, yes I see what you mean, I assumed that this was an effect of the low resolution, ESB's natural dark blue tint (which was shown to be present even in theaters by the theatrical bootleg) and some DVNR smearing (which is quite noticeable in some of the final sequences of ESB). The DVNR smearing does cause some residual outlining at times when strong; this is inherent to GOUT sourced projects. However, I never downloaded the V3, so I'm at a loss to explain why it wouldn't be present there. Note that while testing these scene, I did turn my sharpness up and down, but they were still somewhat visible. I'll check my GOUT DVD later to see if I can observe any of these.

Sorry for the double post but I wanted to keep this separate from my earlier comment. Well, I know it took me longer to see this than the other two, but here are my thoughts about Return of the Jedi. As before, I definitely love the menus: simple and neat. Also, like the others, the music is soothing and not bothersome to leave playing on and on.
To preface this, I must dutifully admit that ROTJ is without a doubt my least favorite of the OT. Isn't it everyone's? Anyway, because of this, I don't watch it often. My NTSC GOUT has probably only been played once, and if I want to see it, I usually go to Spence's final edit or Harmy's reconstruction. I am of the opinion that ROTJ was the OT film truly ruined by the 2004 DVDs. The color timing was unwatchable, creating lightsaber errors and making things look too cool: robbing them of any majesty. Furthermore, the crushed blacks were worse of in this movie; finally, the CGI additions in this movie were the most godawful additions from Hayden to that fake beak...
Anyway, back to the release, this is THE BEST THAT ROTJ HAS EVER LOOKED AND SOUNDED. As amazing as the Project Blu versions of the other two movies looked, this was better. For some reason, I did not notice any DVNR smearing while watching this, and it constantly maintained a filmic look with the occasional, innocuous film artifact. I daresay that this could hold up as a high-end commercial Blu-Ray of today. Dark Jedi, did you use the PAL GOUT as the base for this because it is absolutely amazing!? Perhaps it is a little softer than today's absolute high end Blu-Rays but I didn't mind. The stellar picture let me, for the first time in years, get into ROTJ. It's actually not as bad a movie as I remember since I didn't need to also put up with poorer video quality.
This was the first time that I realized how different a movie ROTJ is from Star Wars, in terms of cinematography. In contrast to Star Wars's vivid, saturated palette, ROTJ is more neutral and subdued, somewhat like ESB. This is the first release that seems to truly show this. Despite, its darkness, this shows ROTJ's detail much more than the 2004 Lowry restoration. Without crushed blacks and a sickish blue tint, this release surpasses Lowry's restoration in every way. Needless to say, contrast and brightness were spot on; though, note that ROTJ does have some dark scenes. The effects hold up better than ESB, which suffered from some color errors because of the dark blue tint that was placed for theatrical release. Anyway, all of the lightsabers are spot on, in terms of color. Vader's lightsaber is completely red and Luke's looks green as always. While not seeming as hand-animated as in ANH, they still managed to seem rougher than ones digitally composited, which in my book, is a very good thing...
Audio surprisingly sounded fantastic. The LPCM of the theatrical stereo was crisp and clear, as well as in sync. Quickly listening to all the audio, I could point out no flaw, undoubtedly the best that ROTJ has ever sounded.
It is strange and somewhat unfortunate that out of all the Project Blu releases, ROTJ looks and sounds the best but I suppose that's the irony of life... Though I must say, I am still astounded by it. It's certainly far better than anything sourced from that bad '04 restoration. So, as this is my last Project Blu review, I will say that Dark Jedi, you've done an extraordinary job on all of them... Turns out you can really polish that disgusting piece of fecal matter Lucas gave us...
