So I'm pretty sure it's confirmed, but I'd like to double check: we're looking at a 2004 DVD transfer, right? I want to change the title of the thread.
And I'm officially not buying this shit until it's in the bargain bin.

We believe its confirmed, but there are some among us who are still on a "wait and see" attitude, even after the ComicCon video has the color issues and Humdinger glitch.Adium said:

It's the 2004 telecine/transfer, but not the same master. It's a new master derived from the 2004 HD master. The difference is that they have increased the gamma to resolve some of the dimness issues of the 2004 release. Of course, this introduces its own set of problems.
Ah, but do we know of the enhanced gamma besides the pictures online, that the web designer may have brightened because of their darkness? That's my new question.zombie84 said:

This is a really good question which no one has answered. With regards to the gamma, ken's policy of wait and see just might be the only option.
So, yes to "2004 version" (they would have shown new effects by now), and possible yes to "colors messed up in a different way".

I'm surprised nobody did this yet, but here's a comparison of the comic con video recently released by LFL, which actually contains some footage straight from the shown video (not shot by a camera from a screen):
It seem like it is slightly tweaked (for the better actually) but nothing as drastic as the pictures on the official site. As this difference is very subtle and could be caused by recompression, I'd lean towards the Blus being unchanged from the 04 version or maybe just really slightly tweaked, like this picture shows. Either way, I'd bet my ass that it will be the 04 transfer on the Blus, as the 04 version is effectively a version of the films that doesn't exist in any other form, so a new scan would be the 97SE (if they used the altered negative) and not the George approved version.

Zombie, if I pop in my 2004 DVD's in my BluRay player and upscale them, how close to quality will it be to the new BluRay set in September?

So does this mean no new scenes or fixes? Like no digital Yoda in TPM, no recolored lightsabers, etc?
Darn good questions. Lucas was all about the new TPM Yoda on that "Star Wars in Concert" promo.
I've always firmly believed that Luke's wrong colored light-saber was a deliberate mistake, just to F with us. No way that could have passed however many levels of workers, quality checkers, printers, and Lucas himself without being noticed. Wont be surprised if it's not 'fixed'.

Wow, that does look good. Nice skin tone and some detail has been restored (engine on the right). Also the colors of the equipment looks good. Not as flat-grey as the '04. Has anyone seen other pics that show actual improvement over the dvds? This is the only instance I've seen where it doesn't look worse.
Here's the rest of the shots seen in that video:
I've never noticed that accidental Death Star shaped lens flare beneath the Falcon before.
So it's uniformly brighter and pinker?
Has anyone noticed the unseen yavin command centre footage at the beginning of this video:

And some unseen Yavin hangar footage here:

So you pretty much want to see everything eccept the sand storm scene, Ken.
E-c-c-e-p-t is now my new preferred spelling of both "accept" and "except".

haha ,well thanks.
Ady, maybe those new footages are part of the deleted "extended" scenes or just used as menu transitions.

I misread the label for that one and thought it showed footage of Alec Guinness delivering General Doddona's briefing speech (which of course never happened but might have done in another universe).
I thought, 'what next, Luke missing his grapple throw?'

Having had a chance to catch up with the last several pages here now Adium, I've certainly seen enough to confirm that the powers-that-be are indeed about to merely release an equally-shoddy colour image for the Blu-ray release of the OT, as they did for the DVD release. No surprise there I'm sad to say.
Sure, the actual 'gamma' seems to be upped for a 'brighter', 'clearer' intensity, but the overall colouration is still a mess as far as I'm concerned. While there will be many that are now used to the particular colour-tampering seen in the 2004 versions (and will be content to see a more 'vibrant'-looking take on that look), I myself can never get used to it. I'd rather watch the GOUT releases, which look closer to how things used to be, where colours are concerned.
But of course, my own OT interest now rests in what Adywan and others have given us, where colour-correction and fixes are concerned. I've no doubt that the odd previously-glaring flaw of the 2004 OT release will be given a cursory make-over this time around, but am equally sure that others that have been flagged-up will not be.
However, as certain SE additions have ruined the official releases for me anyway, it doesn't really matter to me, as I thankfully have the skillful efforts of members around here to fall back on for alternatives nearer to my preference. I'm just disappointed that the masses are continuing to only get the inferior 'creative choices' that have been foisted on the OT nowadays.
Anyway, if you do decide to change this ongoing thread title after all, may I throw a first suggestion into the ring - 2004 'humdinger' transfer of Star Wars coming to Blu-ray (UPDATE: May 4th 2011) by Adium
I say we wait until we get our hands on the whole thing (or at least some of the more obviously screwed up footage). The colors are a little bit better in certain areas, and there's definitely some detail present which was too black in the 2004 to bring back...so there's some sort of voodoo going on here.

Kind of funny, for the first time I've felt that more changes couldn't be anything but an improvement at this point; which may actually be the first time ever that no real content changing meddling is done.
Too bad Lucas wasn't feeling this lazy back in the mid nineties.
