No, it's not. The smoke is surely an on-set effect and is exactly the same in the OOT as in the SE. The problem is that this shot is very unsharp and extremely grainy in the GOUT. I can't put less smoke there, it looks too bad that way, I was actually tempted to add more of it. You must keep in mind that YOUTUBE compression takes away a lot of fine detail and therefore makes the quality difference less pronounced. Also, I made some more tweaks to the smoke in this video.
I swear its going the other way in the GOUT footage. watch this and go to 0:06. I swear to god the smoke moves the other way then back again when the 2004 footage returns. Maybe I'm hallucinating when I watch that clip?? :0
Well, yeah, it is going the other way during the GOUT footage there but only at the bottom of Jabba's body because that part isn't GOUT but reversed SE footage (before anyone tells me that it's wrong, I already said that video was just a test of concept and it's not done that way in the other two videos).
Either way, I still think its better keeping it that way than 'butchering' it with that Chewbacca backwards shot.
Please don't overdo the smoke. It looks passable to me with less. I think you may be be overeacting a bit to the unsharpness of the GOUT shot. Its not as terrible as you are making it out to be. I don't think anyone here, other than you, has stated that it is too bad to use. Its noticable , yes, but not that bad.
Oh, man, please re-read my post that you quoted starting with "You must keep in mind"...
Also, when you open the video I linked to in that very same post, you'll see the word "final" in it's name...
Maybe tweeking the GOUT shot for lightness and contrast a bit more may help it blend in better....
C'mon, when I said I'd spent hours experimenting with it, don't you thing I already tried all possible brightness and contrast settings.
