I originally thought Ben said "They're not for sale if you want them" instead of "They're up for sale..."

And in ESB, I used to think that the wall with Luke's lightsaber in it was being moved by the Wampa, because it looks like the whole wall is moving toward him when the camera is actually just moving toward the wall.  (I didn't understand the force very well as a kid...).

I used to think Darth's name was actually Dark Fader. I also thought the movies were REAL, completely forgetting i was watching a television.

I just thought of what is probably my biggest childhood misconception.  Biggest not in plot or story development, but biggest because I STILL have this misconception today!

Probably the most famous line in Star Wars: "No, I am your father," I still to this day hear as "No, I am the father."  And it's sooo hard for me to remember that that's not what it is.  It's usually after I see ESB that it occurs to me that I heard it wrong again.

I thought Wicket was a dog.

*edit*  I was also under the adult misconception that Jerry Seinfeld's poodoo bit was inspired but after reading this thread I see that he just pinched it from xhonzi.

My misconceptions were that Darth Vader was named Dark Vader, Chewie was a wild beast native to Hoth that Han & co. adopted, and that Luke and Han were brothers (I don't know why I thought they were; I guess I saw some resemblance between them or something like that).

The first time i saw any of Empire was on the tele, the tv station spliced in a commercial with a Mounty cop in a blizzard talking to someone on a pay phone, this was during the opening scenes on Hoth, so I thought Han (or maybe luke?) was talking to the Mounty, lol.

After finding out Vader was Luke's father when I was five, and discovering Leia was Luke's sister in ROTJ, I just figured everyone in Star Wars is related.

This led me to think that Han was Luke's brother.

Come to think of it, when I first heard the Vader/Luke revelation, I thought it too far-fetched.

For a long time, I was convinced that Vader was lying and for some reason Obi-Wan was Luke's father.

And then I saw the prequels.

Remember when Obi-Wan and Owen were related?

That was before my time.
