Problems posting with IE9

Author
Time

My computer recently auto-updated and installed IE9 (yeah, yeah, I should be using Firefox/Chrome/Safari/Netscape....blah....blah...blah...).  When I try to post here with that computer, it gives me an error message saying both the topic title and text must be filled out.  But both already ARE filled out.  I've tried & retried to no avail.

Also, I'm unable to click in the topic text field with my mouse (such as to reposition the cursor, or click & drag to highlight something).  But I CAN click in the topic title block...  I'm having to use my wife's computer, which hasn't updated to IE9 yet, to post this.

Is there any word on a possible fix for this, or what might be causing it?  I travel for work & can now only post here when I'm at home & can use my other computer b/c I don't really want to go back to IE8 on my laptop.  Plus I'm afraid my other computer will auto update & install IE9 while I'm gone & then I won't be able to post here at all.  This seems to be the only forum that I visit that has had any issues since my laptop updated.

This is happening to me to. I get around it be clicking "preview" instead of "post" first. You still get the "fill in title/text" message, but if you return to the previous page and click "preview" again, then your message comes up and you can click "post" then.

It's a pain in the ass doing it this way, but it'll work (you still can't italicize, bold, etc. or add links using the icons, though, and attempts to edit posts seem to fail half the time).

It's a problem with the advanced editor. If you switch to the plain text editor under your preferences, you should be able to post.

The next major update to the software will use a different editor.

It'll be fixed when the X0 project is ou-oh wait, the raw capture came, I can't use that joke.

It'll be fixed when Jay feels like it... that tends to happen.

Back in May, Jay told me the next major update would be "late August".

Until then, you will have to use one of the workarounds, i.e. use a different browser, or switch to the plain text editor in the forum preferences.

Might want to check that link again - the story has been updated.

It's probably going to be that very late part of August people sometimes refer to as "September".

A few new features might make an appearance, but it's mostly under-the-hood work to get it in line with modern coding practices and make it easier to add features down the line. Think of it as the Snow Leopard to the current software's Leopard.
