Ah, interesting. He says the cyan strip was out of synch, so that's why the separations were no good.

How do one know this is not another untruth to refuse to restore and release the originals on DVD and Blu Ray ?

As with Lucas weight i wish people would leave jokes about the size of his neck alone, the poor man has suffered diabetes for about half his life or more.

This is a terrible illness which can result in blindness, loss of limbs due to necessary amputations in the worst cases and yes death.

Well said, skyjedi! IIRC, Lucas asked Topps to make a sugar free bubblegum option for the trading cards back in the 70's for that very reason.

We don't need school playground level comments about his appearance. If he was deathly thin, I doubt people would make jokes about it.

Where were you in '77?

Lucas looks mainly healthy to me... plenty of people with Diabetes are healthy aside from that condition. I had a friend with juvenile diabetes who played all sorts of sports.

Well i lost my Grandfather and great Uncle to the disease so i have personal reasons for taking it very seriously, My only surviving grandmother and grandparent is also legally blind and cannot walk without help because she suffers from it.

On Lucas i also believed George's mother suffered from it though they never knew what her illness was in those days.  She was always bedridden and sickly, he was mostly raised by his nanny Till and his dad was almost always at work at LM Morris company.

Indeed and well put, sir.  A good friend of mine lost one of his legs just below the knee a couple of years ago due to diabetes.  He is only in his 30s.

Regarding Lucas' appearance;  As much as I dislike his constant lying and selfishness, I have to give credit where credit is due - dude looks great for a guy crowding 70.

I have diabetes from both sides of my family. Coupled with Heart disease, my chances at a healthy life are slim, so I try to take care of my self the best I can. Luckily, I haven't been diagnosed with diabetes, hopefully I never will.

Sky - I have family what has diabeties. It runs in mai family. It doesn't cause obeastiy; in fact... curbing obreasity can reduce diabetes - mai gran lost lots of weight in mid 90's and until recently was still medically diabetic, but when she went to hospital and was put on diabetic food we had doctor come examine and sure enuogh she's not diabetic no more. I'm not saying it's the same for everyone... I knew a couple of kids when I was in high school that had to take injections either semi or daily... but they were not the fat kids. Lucas is fat cause he doesn't exercise, point in end :) I is not fat cause I exercise daily!

Lucas has never gotten exercise though. His wife used to bug him about it when he was in his 30s--when he was skinny. Your metabolism changes when you get older and many people become a bit pudgy just through the natural course of things; diabetes doesn't help of course. I wouldn't presume to know Lucas' exercise schedule in any case.

A friend of mine is a GP, I asked him about it and his answer is that putting on the weight makes diabetes worse, it's easier to put on the weight because your body can't use sugars but that doesn't mean you can't exercise and stay normal weight :) He then mentioned that he wished many of his diabetic patients would do that!

Oh, c'mon guys, are we now discussing how fat George Lucas is? He is quite old, you know. And he isn't even that fat. I don't know how many people this old you know, RU, but I'd like to see you running on a treadmill when you're nearing 70. My Grandma is 65 and she has trouble walking longer distances, so running is completely out of the question.

Yeah, George isn't the biggest he's been. It looks that way because of his neck, but come on. Some people get big bellies, some people get big thighs, George just happened to get a big neck.

"Isn't even that fat??" He'd be at LEAST class II obese, if not class III.

Juts in the last couple years his voice seems sort of frail and unhealthy to me, it bums me out.

At one point I think he says they went looking for the 3-strip because Fox couldn't be bothered to spend the 50 grand on a print, I'm guessing he means a purely archival print? As opposed to one that was put to use for home video, rereleases etc. (by the way, did anything further come from this weirdness?:

I thought it was a Technicolor print that was used for color reference for the SEs (one that he apparently had stored at Skywalker ranch), not the separations that were stored in the salt mines (?)

...and he DOES have fantastic hair- I can't take that away from him. ;-)

This proves Lucas saves every scrap of film.

It is more truthful to point out that the o-neg has been conformed to the special edition in 1997, not that it is destroyed.

So far he has given every excuse under the sun for not restoring and releasing the originals.  Its too expensive, the negative was no longer in existence and permanently altered, it did not fit his original vision, its an oxmoron to include them on the blu ray.  Now the excuse is the separation masters were messed up.  Its like the boy who cried wolf, even if he is telling the truth this time nobody will believe him.

^^That's not the o-neg, that's the master reels of film from which the prints and digitcal copies are made... the o-neg is the camera negative, that isn't directly put into the reels, in that video (for instance) they talk about finding the o-neg for the 4-eyed stormtropper shot, cleaning it and then scaning it for use (they could have just as easily scanned that shot from the movie reel and achieved the same result IMHO). The "Master" of the SE is probably compleatly digital and not a set of movie reels anyway, It's probably a 4K digital scan done for the 2004 release where they went through and found all the o-negs they could to splice it in (digitally) and make the film look better. In any case, the idea that he doesn't have a theatrical print or couldn't make one easily is rubbish, after all for the exception of a handful of scenes, every scene in the theatrical is in the SE, just some are altered.

Oh and back on topic - Lucas is so fat I can't believe anyone would defend that! new topic here :)

The 2004 was only scanned at 1080 HD, not 4K.

Directly scanned from the 1997 conformed negative, the o-neg itself was altered.  Which in itself implies no kind of restoration of any kind.

You never harm your Camera negative in such a fashion especially by splicing in CGI.  Unless you are George Lucas, or if your someone else and do it you are a moron.
