Info & Ideas: ESB and ROTJ Wishlist — Page 307

I know some have said that they see flaws in Tatooine as the setting for the first segment of ROTJ, for various reasons.

  1. If they were rendevouxing there at the end of ESB, what took them so long?
  2. It shrinks the universe.
  3. The Yuma desert is not as dynamic as Tunisia.

But there's no reason Jabba has to be on Tattooine. Is it possible to turn Tatooinne into another planet? Perhaps re-matte the sky with weird clouds, or make it an odd color, tint the sand to make it red maybe.

The crawl would have to be re-done, as well as cutting Luke's line "I grew up here you know." Other than that the changes would just be cosmetic.

I don't know if this is doable, or even necessarily a good idea, but it occured to me watching ROTJ this weekend.

That's a pretty good idea... Heck, with some good rotoscoping, you could do better than to just shift the sand color.

I have no idea if it's feasible, audio/video-wise, but that interchange could be shortened to

HAN: I think my eyes are getting better. Instead of a big dark blur, I see a big light blur.
LUKE: There's nothing to see.
HAN: Convenient.

That does leave the "I'll meet you at the rendezvous point on Tatooine." line a little strange, but not unsalvageable.

Not at all. They met at Tatooine and started searching. They knew Jabba had dealings there. They couldn't well start the search in the Medical Frigate.

Right, and that could briefly be told in the opening crawl. "After tracking the vile gangster, JABBA THE HUTT, to the remote world of [MADE UP NAME]..."

I rather like the idea that Luke's "I'm never coming back to this place again" get's thrown in his face by the winds of time.

It would have been more significant though if the final battle of the war was over the planet that Luke and his friends thought was boring and couldn't get away from quick enough but that's for another universe.

Zoinks! Could you imagine it!

Jawas rewiring AT-ATs to fire on TIEs, Sandpeople riding Krayt dragons swallowing stormies.

Somebody get with this crazy shite ASAP!

I think it would be a great redemption for Tatooine in general, and for the Tuskens as well.

But rotoscoping everything and everyone but the main characters so that they join a Jawa tribe...seems...difficult.

That and Tatooine isn't remote or unpopulated enough for a Giant Construction Project In The Sky to go unnoticed.

As I said one for a different universe.

If George had written it differently (without the need of another Death Star being built in the same place as the final battle) it would have been fine.

Knowing Luke would eventually rescue Han, Vader could send a fleet there as a trap for him but Luke being a Jedi might anticipate this and the fast growing Rebel fleet could swoop in to capture Vader.

Palpatine being Palpatine could send a superweapon or two to kick in the Rebel fleet.

Oh well....

I did suggest having an Imperial fleet come out of hyperspace when the Rebels leave Tatooine and try to capture them but this was dismissed as being too much like ANH (and ROTJ is too much like ANH as it is even if it would make sense).

If we're talking about changing Tatooine to a different planet in Jedi, why not consider making it into Hutta - the Hutt home world?

I think some of the concept art for that new game they're making looks quite nice:

Those pictures highlight so much of what is topsy turvy about the EU.

The sail barge in ROTJ looks that way because it's supposed to evoke our cinematic collective memory of maritime sailing ships from old pirate movies (sailing on a Dune Sea instead of a briny sea).

But now the sails and the railings are Hutt architectural styles.

It would be as easy to make the footage look like those concepts as it would to make the Endor footage look like a desert planet.

I hate to ruin everyone's fun, but there is a HUGE problem that no one is seeing about moving the final battle to Tatooine, Darth Vader hates sand.

Tatooine is never mentioned by name in ANH (I don't think), so it could be anywhere really. I always liked the idea that luke's desert homeworld didn't even have a name!

IF jabba is portrayed as an old villain in the reworked PT, aka, the old big bad, geonosis (or whatever it is changed to) could be this alternative new world? Could be really flash in the PT, and just a burnt husk in ROTJ.

What are you talking about?  It's Anakin that hates san--

Oh.

Luke hates sand too...

Why do you think he kicked a bit sand in that bit in the first one where he nearly burnt out the retinas in his eyes by looking at two suns...

Threepio hates sand as well (he is Luke and Leia's brother and Vader's son...thanks George).

Damn! I remember seeing this everywhere in the 80s. And was convinced it was in the actual movie and since been edited out!

I would love to see this image re-constructed in motion and added into the film.

B-Wings are one of my favorite designed ships, and we hardly catch a glimpse.

Ok, first, what the hell is this thing? Why is it only perched on the wall in the scene where Han and Luke get "sentenced" and nowhere else....who's genius idea was it to mount a giant tongue on the wall.......and who else wants to see it gone?

It is kinda weird. It looks like it wouldn't be too much of a hassle to remove, as the background doesn't move so much that it makes masking difficult.
