It is just a movie. God forbid anyone think too hard about the contents of it. Must remain shallow and turn off brain when experience tv, movies, or internets... No wonder crap like Transformers steal the box office...

Seems from your comments that you do have a problem with it. And if you truly aren't interested in participating, shut the fuck up and move along. This isn't rage or anything like that. Just sayin'.

Thanks for not quoting my entire post and thus changing the meaning of it.

My issue is not with serious discussion, but rather with the premise that Leia is racist.  That's what I find funny.

And lol at "shut the fuck up/this isn't rage."

That is good. I respect your opinion, and I am pretty sure Ray respects your opinion as well. The problem is you RESTATE IT EVERY THIRD POST or so.

We get it. You think it is a silly thing to talk about.

Well if someone misrepresents my position I feel like I need to correct them.

No, that was fair. I agree. I was referring to the last couple of pages, not this one.

(Though I don't feel Ray was trying to misrepresent you; he was just trying to make the point that if you are not interested in participating, feel free not too.)

Well I won't mention it again....

boom.

Too small. He's supposed to be riding a T-rex. And he's flying it in space :D

But anyways.... I personally consider Empire to be the best Star Wars movie. It has the best action sequences, the best soundtrack and the best characterisation...

But maybe that's just me...

It certainly doesn't offend me in any way, but, yeah, I guess I can see that.  I mean, it's not really like wearing glasses.  The fact that he's furry is inherent to his species, so it's really more akin to Leia yelling, "Someone get this darkie out of my way!" and I can guarantee that wouldn't fly! =P

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I think S Matt would be proud to see how far his thread has gone... :)

S_Matt perceived a light-hearted comment as derailment of his thread, overreacted, and left.

S_Matt's overreaction and departure resulted in the thread being derailed.

Had S_Matt never overreacted and left, this thread would still be on the rail.

Isn't it ironic? Don'tcha think?

I know! Like rain on S_Matt's wedding day.

Almost as ironic as the suggestion that a thread on OT.com wouldn't have been derailed provided something else hadn't happened. The only threads around here that stay on topic are the ones that are only one to three posts long.

The off-topic threads stay pretty on topic (which is weird) and the fan edit threads stay reasonably on topic too.

Exactly. I said it grates on me, but I can (and do) easily dismiss it. It's just that when you think about it, Leia's remarks are more harsh than they seem on the surface. It's funny to us, because 1- it's not real and 2- to us, Chewie is a big hairy monster. But in the world presented to us in the films, Chewie isn't anymore strange than another race of human is to us and that makes her remarks toward him seem more rude than necessary.

Again, it is all quite silly of course, but based on Leia's comments one can only assume she's a bit prejudiced against the Wookies. Sure she hugs Chewie and obviously doesn't hate him, but it seems to me to be a bit like "Don't worry Chewie. I like you. You're one of the good ones. Not like those other smelly, hairy, freeloadin' beasts ."

And so what if she is? I've never really gave it too much thought, but hey, nobody's perfect. Maybe it's something she's having to deal with internally. She's always held some kinda grudge against them and now she's had one save her ass more than once, help fight for the cause she believes in and has found out that he's actually a really great guy. Kinda adds an interesting bit to her character if ya ask me.

Please note that I don't believe anyone involved in the films actually intended for any of this to be happening. I don't think there is any intentional racial comments, ideas or anything like that in the films. But I also think people should be able to come to a forum such as this and discuss any aspect of these films that interests them, weather these aspects are actually in the films or not.

Chewie is big, he walks and he is hairy.

I don't really get why this comment is seriously looked at as 'Racey'.

Was Han being 'Racey' when he calls Jabba "a slimy piece of worm-ridden filth"?

Would he be 'Racey' if he called him "Fatty Boom-boom"?
