Can anyone help fill in the MattmanOmega and DJ V3 release details & screenshots? Also planning on adding Lee's technicolour project when complete.

I can fix the DJ V3 for you if someone else haven't done that already?

Yes please.

JF - thanks.

Did my pm go through?  Were the pics satisfactory?  Shots 3 and 5 were the ones that were difficult to get the exact frame for ..... I don't know if I was doing something wrong with DGIndex...I hope they helped.

The problem with grapping frame-accurate screenshots for SW may be the chapter branching I used to add the '81 opening.  There are duplicates of the first 3 chapters.

If you still aren't able to get the right screengrabs, PM me and I'll see what I can do.

Added shots of DJ's V3 thanks to msycamore. All OK except for shot 6 which is a slightly different frame.

JF, all the shots you uploaded for me were the wrong frames. Having looked at DGIndex, I now realise that although it has a single step mode for the preview, nowhere does it actually tell you the frame number you're looking at!

A much easier way would be to use an AviSynth script with VirtualDub or AvsPmod. Just ensure the script contains the line ConvertToRGB32(), as the YV12 to RGB conversion in other programs may not be ideal (VirtualDub doesn't upscale the chroma, for example).

I'll be damned! 1 error out of 6, pretty good results by just going on visual cues. :) I'll try to fix that last one for you.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Sincerely, Lynne Hale publicity@lucasfilm.com

ConvertToRGB32()

I tried ConvertToRGB24() . . . but then got spooked when I noticed the BMPs weren't exactly the same as I got from DGIndex.

In the end I had DGDecode.DLL to do the conversion, like this:
MPEG2Source("project.d2v", upConv=2)

Frames 4626, 5130, 7255, 11070, 26317 and 70943.

Moth3r, don't know what I am doing wrong, but those frame counts are not even close to what I'm seeing when loading my script into virtualdub.

Maybe I could cap the five following Greedo frames for you, but that will make it a little tiresome for you to figure out which one of them is the correct frame.

Those frame numbers were actually worked out by Darth Mallwalker (when I did the original shots, I didn't bother making a note of the frames I used - typical).

But did you see my comment about the blank cell in the first VOB file? If this is included in the d2v file, then all frames will be +15 (SW title card appears at 704 instead of 689).

Ah ok, now I remember that I and Darth Mallwalker had those differences in frame counts in another thread.

Will PM it for you in a moment.

^Too funny! I do recall when we looked at Adm.Ozzel's force-choke in 005's comparison thread. That time msycamore was GOUT-aligned and I was off by 15.
Great minds think alike? Or should we say Great minds making the same mistake. :)

Well only some of them. I missed the Greedo shot just like everybody else.
Why do we have such trouble finding the Greedo shot?
Is it just the way our brains are wired?

Greedo shot

No he didn't

What's the difference between Geforce's and DJ's v.1?

A slight difference in cropping, otherwise the image is virtually identical.

Edit: and of course DJ's have additional audio tracks, are dual layer, and he did all three films not just SW.

Nice summary, Moth3r. IMO your efforts with the old "Pwnage" is still among the best, I would say it's a tie between yours and g-force/d_j v.3 going by those pics.

Well, I do prefer my colour adjustments and minimal noise reduction.

But as I said on page 1, still pics don't show you g-force/DJ's stabilized wobble, which is a deal breaker for some.

And, of course, there's your excellent work on the subtitles...

Which you are largely responsible for ;) also you didn't have as much to work from back then. But thanks anyway.

I agree, I like your more subtle approach with the noise reduction better, but g-force's stabilization work is also fantastic. Both have their pros and cons.

I hear he's seeing a doctor about that.

NR in the script is a side effect of the local motion stabilization. The global stabilization by itself revealed film warp that made still things look like they were moving in relation to things next to them. So, one way to make things more stable temporally is to apply some temporal NR. I do like the original film grain, but not as much as a more still image.
