I'm downloading this for the second time. The first download was missing several files. I should have read this more carefully first. My current download shows 789 files. Is that correct?
Correct, not all of the files were finished uploading until yesterday.
Not counting the NZB file, there are 789 total files. Though, you can probably get by just fine with downloading only one or two of the PAR files and skipping the rest unless you find a lot of parts missing and you absolutely need them.
My Projects:
[Holiday Special Hybrid DVD v2]
[X0 Project]
[Backstroke of the West DVD]
[ROTS Theatrical DVD]
Okay, thanks. The download is a little over half way finished.
So any news on this guys? How does it look, is there anything that could be of use? I was hoping someone would review it when they download it.
Unfortunately, and with no disrespect to Zion or the X0 team, the X0 transfer just doesn't really offer anything of use. When you break it down, it's still just a transfer of the '93 Star Wars LD, though from a solid LD player with no compression artifacts.
But, it does have it's own issues. For starters, and this was mentioned a few posts back, there is obvious dot crawl. Luckily, most of it is easy to remedy.

Second, there are some occasional instances of video drop-out. While rare, they are usually of such extreme that entire frames might need to be replaced.

Finally, the opening ANH text has some issues with the yellow letters. I don't know if it has to do with the dot-crawl...or what. But, in my opinion, it renders the X0 transfer an unsuitable source for the '81 opening...unless someone knows a way to clean that up.

Plus, it still has all of the wonderful ugliness associated with the '93 transfer, securing GOUT as our best (yuck) current source.
I have a total noob question, but there's 97 pages to this topic and I'm not going to search for hours for an answer: is this transfer just the DC sets? Not JSC or any other?

Fail. The X0 transfer is much more than your narrow minded opinion of it.
I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.
@vbangle: Care to explain?
rofl, O.M. goes to the trouble of downloading the uncompressed files and offers a "narrow minded opinion"? vbangle must have a bug up his ass or something!

That's not vbangle's style.
Hang on, let's give him a chance to explain before we all jump on his case. Since my conclusions were identical to OM, I want to hear why he thinks we are narrow minded.

I thought vbangle just thinks anyone who doesn't agree with him is narrow minded.
Point me to some contrary evidence and I'll withdraw my claim.
^^Moth3r if its the exact same ld as the source for the gout then yeah, I wonder too (without seeing it) how useful it could be? After all a DVD is digital and an LD is analogue... even w. mpeg2 compression, I'd rather have the dvd source than the LD captured source!

Well the d1 master tape itself is extremely limited anyway. Even if you were Lucasfilm, taking that and upscaling it to blu ray would be out of the question.
The gout coming from the original 35mm master IP or IN is the best star wars oot ever has looked on home video.

However, if Lucasfilm would have opted for whatever master was made for the PAL THX versions, a 16x9 DVD upscale would have been very possible. I was playing around with Lee Thorogood's '95 THX transfers a while back...and even though they were upscaled without first anti-aliasing, reducing the jaggies was a lot easier. Plus, as we all know, DNR is much less pronounced.
Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of these LDs to work with myself. I'd love to get my hands on a raw, untweaked, high-quality LD-to-digital transfer of the PAL editions to toy around with ;)
^^I don't think PAL countries bought into the LD format too well, and as such got worse LD players. Which is ironic since as soon as DVD came out PAL got PAL + NTSC players and NTSC got NTSC-only players!

That's because NTSC is inferior in most technical aspects, so it's no problem for a PAL player to play it back
;-) <----
I'm sorry to beat a dead horse, but the Legacy troll gave me a smidgeon of hope that perhaps Zion found the speeder shot. That alone is probably the most grievous offender in the GOUT and if we had that fixed then I'm sure that'd make so many projects look a lot better.
A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em
In any case, if that still from that idiot's thread really was fake, I'm outta here - none of the DC, GOUT, or 16mm projects interest me enough to stick around.
Theatrical or bust!
In any case, if that still from that idiot's thread really was fake,
What could they possibly hope to gain from such deception? They had to know people would ask serious technical questions of such a project, and XO's don't come cheap.
Where were you in '77?
He probably just wanted attention and getting banned was a way for him to end it without outing himself as a complete fraud, which is probably what he was.

Oh don't leave lurker77! You've only been here four days. It's not often that there are fake threads like that and you will find other things of interest here. There's fan edits and also the Despecialized Editions...
and some actually gave me grief for seeing right through his\her crap, and Moth3r saw right through it to, it was OBVIOUS as hell he\she was talking shit, there was NO way that could be done using the LD's he\she supposedly had, I don't care what kind of Super Duper LD Player you have, just NO way, like I said, I just can't believe some of the members here, but it seemed he\she was pulling one over on a few it seemed, which made the whole thing even more amusing, and then when the stupid name calling started, now that took the cake.
Well, I was hoping the thread wouldn't die, before having him show those clips he promised. It would've been interesting to see what he would have uploaded!
Still, as poor as his whole show was, I was never 100% sure he was lying... ridiculously big ego? Yeah... but I'm not familiar enough with what Laserdisc-players can do to be absolutely sure about that aspect.
