Ask anyone who has done a TPM edit - it's hard to cut a lot of plot and still have it make any sense.

It doesn't make much sense to me as is, so I don't see any great loss.

"I escaped somehow!" indeed.

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

I'm not sure if the dubbing is working it might be better to do an entirely different dub track (including the original dialogue) all of which is to some extent out of sink with the lips (so it looks like a film not filmed in English that is dubbed).

The audience might find it easier to cope with the whole thing being out of whack than just key lines.

I think the dubbing is working fine.  It matches better in some places than others but I don't think it's really an issue for this kind of edit.

I'm not going to replace the dialogue completely.

A couple tweaks. De-Ducreuxed R2, added a few Ric Olie lines and removed one, and added a Jar-Jar subtitle.

Regarding the sound clipping, I listened to my exported avi on headphones and didn't hear any distortion, so I'm starting to think it's a youtube issue. At least, I hope it is....

MUCH MORE AWESOME.

Instead of wondering what R2 was saying, I was LOLing. ;-)

Are you thinking about putting Ric Olie into Episode Two??? Have him flying the ship at the beginning. Could be funny

I'd like to get Ric in the other two movies at some point.  He certainly deserves it.

Have him piloting Amidala's ship, but somehow surviving the explosion. And then just have him the shots of him in the Naboo Starfighter cockpit commenting on Obi-wan and Anakin's com chatter in the beginning battle.

"Haven't you noticed, the shields are still up!"
"You catch on pretty quick."

^ How about rotoscoping his naboo fighter to fly in and fire at the side of the ship. Switching off the shields for Obi and Anakin.

Indeed!  Having R2 deliver the memes works better than the ducreux-speak.

And having Jar Jar 'translated' is also hilarious.

Well done, Fink.  It's nice to see you making a productive contribution to this website.  Good work.

Frink, what have you decided about the podrace?

Author

Haven't decided yet.  I'll probably throw a quick one together that has Ani never get going just to see how it plays, but I still have to look through the race and see if there's more opportunity for comedy that would be lost.

Author

As long as that comedy doesn't involve Anakin, you could just keep cutting back to him not able to start and saying "oh no!"

^Yep, I had thought about that.  It's a possibility.

No matter what I decide, I'm pretty sure I'll have Sebulba win the race if I can make it reasonably clear that he did.

I was wondering if an idea of visual presentation to the missing scenes you want to have are comicbook pages like they did in Tank Girl. IF you havent seen this movie cause of the low budget instead of sets or high production sequences they put comic pages from the tank girl series with some narrating movement (most of them were zooms and spins) and filled the gaps with some background music. :)

You know.. it might work

What missing scenes?

And I've never seen Tank Girl.

For example you want to have ric olie do something in your edit but you cant have him because of the lack of footage. so you can take some shots from movies or comics that includes him and place dilaogue or whatever you want without caring about lipsync or it looks good.

Now this is the opening scene but you can get the idea when something is going to happen instead of live action footage you have comic images doing stuff :)

Frink, instead of having Ric say "forward stabilizer" (which doesn't blend well with the other lines), have you considered keeping his original line, but just having him repeat it constantly in the background during the whole escape scene?  It would be like he's freaking out while Qui-Gon and company are trying to deal with the situation.

^agreed. I didn't find the forward stabilizers bit funny if that was the intention.

Not a bad idea, cor77.  I liked the forward stabilizers because the line reading is so different, it reminds me of the Mr. Black thing in the Camp Krusty episode of The Simpsons.  But having him constantly repeating the bit about the shields isn't a bad idea.

Honestly, my reaction is "meh."  Part of the fun of this is making things work with what I have available.  I'm all for something like what Bob did for me on the duel, but I don't want to go too drastic with stylistic changes like using comic-style stuff.

Plus, I don't read comics and don't care about them. :p

And the lipsync doesn't really bother me.  I think it's part of the fun.  I did have another member offer to do some limited lipsync adjustment where possible, I may take him up on that but to me it's not a big deal.
