Available sounds can do nicely.

If you notice some good variation ideas are from clone wars that have the clash sounds twisted and more energy like. Replacing the long swings with shorter and more bassy ones can do nicely. just never use the same effect in the same duel again. add a variation to each of it and play with them.

Its the final battle. After all this duel must have an epic character even from sound pov. The original has no sound variation at all. so dull so bland. Your version have the potential to be a masterpiece :)

Note the clashes (not the best for saber swing references)

Cool.

The Death Star behind Palpy looks like it has some small compositing issues just behind Palpy's arm.  Is that just a youtube issue?

It was bad roto. I'll be fixing that. I did a new render of that clip without the color changes to the walls. For some reason, on the second render that roto got sloppy at that section. I'll make sure to get spence a cleaner version. I also think I'll have the DS stand out alittle more.

Haha, I actually do want to remind him, I'm looking forward to that one too! The color correction he's doing on that movie is unbelievable.

Hehe, my edit will come out. I just keep finding flaws in all the footage I've looked at so far. So I keep trying to find a way to get a better source. Three nights ago. I think I found that perfect source. So my edit will be back into play very soon.

By the way, Spence, the Vader line that was being referred to earlier is the line he delivers to his stormtroopers after losing Luke at the end of ESB, but before returning to the Executor:

1980 theatrical: "Bring my shuttle."

1997/2004 SE: "Alert my Star Destroyer to prepare for my arrival."

The second line really sucks in that context, but I agree that it could work well in your edit.

Can it be hacked to say - alert the EMPEROR to prepare for OUR arrival!

Well, if he's leaving Endor for a Star Destroyer in this edit, the original (well, SE) line would work just fine, I think.

Maybe splice it so he says, "Alert the Emperor's Star Destroyer to prepare for my arrival."

Eh, I think it would work on its own. I'll be trying it out tonight.

I'm working pretty hardcore on the commentary track right now, it's so much fun. It should be insightful, but I've made some pretty silly observations, especially in reference to some of the aliens at Jabba's palace. I also couldn't help but do an impression of Yoda's death over that scene. I also keep finding myself humming along to the music, so I apologize for all that in advance.

There's also, rather humorously, one shot of boba Fett still left in the movie. He's still pretty far in the background and only appears for like 2 seconds, but he is there. It's not a big deal to me, as again, he's in the background. I just couldn't get rid of him there due to the framing of the shot, and he's almost unnoticeable. So you can play Where's Waldo with him, haha.

Any more ideas people have that they may want me to consider, speak now or forever hold your peace. By middle of next week, I want this thing done so I can focus solely on DVD authoring and finishing up the features.

re: teaser

This feels like waiting for Christmas now.

Or even, dare I say it, waiting for the next Star Wars to come out.

I always liked Hamill in this film, but too many story problems dragged his work down. Now, knowing how much of that is gone, I get chills from Hamill in this teaser.  Brrrr.

Nice...

...I keep watching it.

You threw this together? You got mad instincts, kid.

Love the cut to the Emperor/DS2 shot. Love. It.

I'm showing this to people.

Haha thanks! I just watched the TPM teaser a few times for inspiration. It doesn't show a lot of the changes I made, but definitely the vibe I'm going for with the edit. Basically, you're going to get the movie you think you're going to get when you watch that trailer.

MTHaslett, if you are disappointed by this edit, I will be very sad, haha.

I also agree about Mark Hamill. His work in all three movies is exceptional, but he was always overshadowed by Harrison Ford. He's more fun and has more sex appeal so i guess people took less notice of Hamill. He does a fantastic job on all accounts.

re: Ewok on the Speeder. I cut it down a little bit, yes, but some of it is still there. He gets all of the Troopers to follow him now instead of just three of them, and the last shot we see of him is him zooming away with the Troopers in pursuit. It works better, and it feels a lot less silly. Again, the Ewoks are very capable in this version.

It could work on its own but I think it helps to pre-establish the fact that they're not going to the Death Star. That way a viewer that's going into the edit without that foreknowledge won't be flabbergasted or confused by the sudden appearance of the DSII behind the Emperor. Unless that's the intended effect.

Edit: Feel free to ignore this post. It's late and I just realized it works either way. =P

Oh no, I definitely want to include it. I probably just won't alter it, as it's clear enough in the original form of the line. Sorry, I wasn't very clear on that.

I'm really late in the game, Spence, but I have always enjoyed your edits, and your ROTS actually stands as one of my fav edits. Looking forward to this. Keep up the good work!

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed ROTS, I'm very proud of that one. There will be a version two coming by the end of the year for that, but it won't be radically different. Just a little bit of clean up and a little work on the ending (I really wish I had removed the "NOOOOOO!!!" scene)

Commentary is done, DVD creation goes well. Waiting on those shots from Bob and L8wrtr and this thing is ready for release.
