The engineer hypothesis doesn't hold water.

The only thing we see him do is cower before Vader hang with Palpatine and his freaky pals and pass on the order to fire the main weapon.

He seems more frightened of Vader than Palpatine in the film as it currently exists.

Um, so, I love some of these visual effects ideas people have had.

I'm currently finishing up a ROTJ edit, and anyone that has something done that they would maybe like to have put in there, show it to me. I'm really impressed with all of this stuff.

A couple of ideas that popped into my head seeing Spence's preview edits which might be of general use.

Using the Tatooine celebrations and altered footage from TPM to have the slaves of Tatooine throw off their shackles with Jabba now dead (meaning that from a certain point of view Anakin's childhood dream comes true) and maybe with added footage helping with a local insurrection against Imperial forces.

Using footage from different films to turn the Coruscant celebrations into an out and out riot which the stormtroopers can no longer repel because they are so outnumbered.

Now that people don't fear them they are more likely to risk death to get rid of them.

Current scenes in Cairo and Tunis may serve as an inspiration for editors (though I stress to point out I'm not trivialising the real life tragedies connected to these events).

Really, the more I read about what's been done in the Prequel's edits, particularly Bob Garcia's, the ideas suggested (and most of them feasible even if they imply heavy edit and FX work) in Prequels Radical Redux ideas thread, and the more I see what Adywan does in ESB:R, the more I regret what Lucas has done with (what could have been... sorry: should have been) the climatic, final, ultimate episode of the saga...

I'm glad to see that, even if not the majority of the "conservative" wing of this community, there's a lot of people (with whom I agree) that have no trouble in admiting that the "untouchable jewells" of the saga are ANH and ESB. I mean even if chronologically there's an OT, there's a tangible difference between EP IV-V and EP VI; and hope that eventually some editor will come and give a little more dignity to the end of the saga. PT can be dense, cheesy, but it's not the climax; personally I don't set the bar as high as I do with ROTJ.

Yeah, thats exactly how I feel. Lucas really dumbed down ROTJ. But its been shown from early on that he's never really respected or given much of a care for his fan base. He makes these movies for himself, and no-one else. (be it for entertainment value, or merchandising rights)

I am loving this idea!  Very very cool!

I also like the first pic of the Hoth mockup.  I agree that the original looks like a closed set now compared to those.

Even if Ady doesn't do this, it would be cool for someone to render them out and post them as .vob files for other fan edits that might use them.  I like having lots of options.

I'm sure it's been mentioned but it's probably at the tip top of my list of needed fixes.

Vader's severed hand wound that isn't fooling anyone. you can clearly see the actor's wrist bent... i can't believe they didn't catch that. i noticed that when i was little. and what a time to be taken out of the movie ugh

Just the wound you say? The whole part IMO. Just look how he "falls" to floor... oh wait, he doesn't, he intentionally bends down...

While I can agree with muddyknees' comment about how far this has been blown out of proportion, I thought it would be cool to see chainsaws idea with the classic logos, and it does look good. Several variations.

I thought about doing a Green logo version of Return of the Jedi, but figured the image was already big enough.

Empire and Jedi remind me of the early trailers.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Do you think it's necessary to emulate the "outline" look of the theatrical logo for the other titles, or not?  That was the whole reason I used the 1995 logos - I thought it would look weird without the classic outline to it.

Not really, I was trying to go along with the trailers looks. It doesn't seem that weird, at least to me. To each his own, I guess.

I only consider episode numerals to keep the various versions straight. I could happily live without them. The titles look great.

I wanted to finish up ROTJ with color-correction. I love the high shine and black eyes they put on Vader's helmet and mask--EXCEPT-it sorta blotted out some of the definition of those magnificent, iconic, insect eyes. I was wondering if some white reflection could be readded to bring out the bulbous shape. Failing that, I never understood the problem with red-eye Vader; Could the red be restored?

OT as a whole:  Between '77 release and ANH:R the colors were off. In ROTJ, I thought the colors were a little too "California Redwoods"-"Yuma" bright. I felt ROTJ:SE, with it's deeper colors and greater contrast, was a definite improvement. It made Endor seem a little more alien and "Forest Primeval."

ESB, for me, is unique. The monochromatic scheme and stop-motion effects give it a BW feel. Graininess, color and contrast flaws almost seem to belong there. I have been surprisingly tolerant of my VHS, GOUT, and SE versions. Even the blue is a pluss to me. I've vacationed in the mountains several times; In late afternoon, under blue sky and in the shadow of the valleys, everything can take on a bluish hue. In ESB '04, it makes Hoth seem more alien.  Pink light sabres are terrible.

For ANH:R- Thank you. For ROTJ:R- Like the SE, only much more so. For ESB:R- Surprise me! I'm sure I'll love it.

OT:R will be my go-to version. The GOUT is sufficient to remember what came before.

I know it's the big thing on this site, but I just can't get excited about OOT salvation. I don't know what was done for the OT:SE restoration. I've always imagined LFL rigged up some kind of transfer to tape using NASA/NSA grade optics and CCD arrays. If so, how much more would it have cost to have some film school intern stand there and run the extra outake and deleted scenes footage? 500 bucks? In any case, I just can't believe GL would ever permit the crown jewels to be lost.

Dissin' and nitpickery is a whole lot more fun than cheerleading; But, tbh, If I thought it was more important to my family, my health, and my long term economic survival to control costs or step back or step forward, I'm sure I would do so with less regard for overly fussy fanboys than GL has shown.

In ROTJ, the infernal legion of 6000 became just 39 formal chaps v. 5 to 6 overwhelmed heros. If the creator of it all wished to show concern for his family and employees at the expense of some grand spectacle, or to concentrate upon the true story of reconciliation between father and son, who are we to judge? We should be very grateful for what is provided. Learning from a frame by frame analysis leads us to conclude that it could have been arranged as a spectacular and terrible conflagaration, but family, employees and the story of reconciliation would indeed have suffered much for it.

Anyway, I came to this site to learn about OT:R. I've learned very much. Much more remains a mystery. If, by tossing out a few suggestions, I might come to feel that I made some small contribution to one or two minor edits, well- Bonus!

I was raised by an artist/technician. One thing it taught me is that I should not suppose that I could do as half as well as those who have much experience with the countless difficulties of completing a work. I'm going to finish up some PT thoughts and get out of the way. Then, I'll return my user name and password to the aministrators to do with them what they think best. I might come and lurk once in awhile, but if asked "...The State Department will deny...(as though anyone would care what the State department has to say:)

He could grab Vader's sword leaving Vader with Luke's to defend himself with so Luke in anger is wielding a red saber and Vader is defending himself with a Jedi blade.

That might make for an interesting twist.

Spence can't do it for his edit but the idea might be useful for someone else.

Out of context, this picture would seem to indicate she's ok with it.

I assume they think he's just being modest. We don't know what he's telling them. And his Ewokese may be a little rusty.
