Yes he is.
I think Williams work on the Prequals are some of those films redeeming virtues. The love theme in AOTC was the only reason I was able to understand those characters were supposed to be in love.
Williams is amazing (and that is a massive understatement, we're talking about John Williams in a Star Wars forum for crying out loud). I've met him twice, and he's just a nice as his music is!
JW is my favourite Star Wars composer! Alongside Joel McNeely, anyways.
IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

"Yeah, well, George says a lot of things..." a young 1997 xhonzi on RASSM
"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.

This.
As John Barry recently passed away, I was scared for a moment when I saw this thread!
Where were you in '77?
Yeah, I think X-wing fighter could use a little work on his thread titles.
whats wrong with my titles?
Nothing. People have been a little jumpy lately because of the death of John Barry.
Anyway x-wing,
Have you heard the score he did for Close Encounters, E.T, or the first Harry Potter? Besides Star Wars and Raiders, those are his best soundtracks.
People often don't realize Williams also has an large body of television work. Lost in Space is among his most memorable tv scores.

And how many people can say they've worked with both Irwin Allen and George Lucas?
He even scored some Gilligan's Island episodes.

They just tend to be a little vague, that's all.

Don't be a butt. It's a thread about John Williams. It's a perfectly good title.
"X-wing Fighter's John Williams the Composer Thread to talk about his Compositions" wouldn't be an improvement. :P
:-(
His body of work is beyond impressive. I have more than I can mention without forgetting a few. That said; These in particular are in regular rotation for me, depending on mood;
Regular
Jaws
Star Wars77
Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom
Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade
Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull
Memoirs Of A Geisha
Seasonal
Home Alone
The Olympics (those seasons are far apart) ;-)
On just my work machine alone, I have over 9 hours of his work.
In fact, now that I'm thinking about it...*cues up Memoirs*
He also did the Superman score.
Today's his birthday! Happy birthday to Mr. Williams. :D
Happy Birthday, Maestro.
Jurassic Park, anyone? Really? C'mon!
Keep Circulating the Tapes.
END OF LINE
(It hasn’t happened yet)
The Lost World had an epic theme, some good King Kongish/Max Steinerish jungle stuff
though Superman is (to me) his best score
only two composers are as good as him (to me): Alan Silvestri (judging from his BTTF scores) and Howard Shore

Gotta agree with that statement.
I like John Williams, he is a modern romantic composer, what more could a person ask for?
I do really like Joel McNeely as well. He took what Williams already gave us, and took it to another place. Much of the music on the SOTE soundtrack could have fit into the OT.
"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

he is a modern romantic composer
That made me think of something funny.

A nice little interview with Mike Matessino done for the time of John Williams birthday: http://popdose.com/the-composers-john-williams/
We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.
