The Secret History of Star Wars — Page 6

Thank you.

Definitely not a smoking gun, but might deserve to be quoted in an endnote?

I think a big question that would have been raised if the SE had kept the line intact is: does Red Leader know that 'Father Skywalker' turned into the dreaded Darth Vader?  And if not, why not (and what would he have thought happened to his former friend)?  And if he DID know, might he not be suspicious of Luke, or maybe think fit to mention it?  ("'Skywalker!?'  Dude, bummer about the evil pops, bro.")

I think the proper route would have been to...not monkey with the damn movie in the first place.  But that's just me.

I swear to God I saw this scene in June of 1977 in the theater - three times (I know, I know, the learned don't believe it). The turnabout when he hears "Skywalker" made sense.  Now the scene is dorky and rushed.

Who is the wet blanket that only gave it 4 stars? ;-)

Puggo: A very brief moment of that scene--in fact the moment with the deleted father dialogue--was seen in 1977's The Making of Star Wars as Told by R2D2 and C3P0 television special.

A 2 star review has popped up on Amazon since this was posted =(

Well, the title of his review says it all:

"Not the book I thought it would be,"

He thought it would be The Making of Star Wars, telling about the scoring, filming, effects, etc., so instead of purchasing the book with that very title he got this and found it focused on the storytelling aspect.

I guess that isn't hit home so hard in the book description, but I thought it was at least indicated. I never was a fan of the description though, as it wasn't written by me. At least this will give me leverage to re-write it if there will be a second edition. :P

couldn't find the "Making of TESB" thread, so:

zombie84, what's your take on JW Rinzler's  Making of TESB book?

Myself, Darth_Nub, and others over at TF.N have been having an in-depth discussion about it.

No, but I click the button to "tell the publisher you want this on Kindle" every time I see it! ;-)

What is your problem? Do you own these boards, or something?   The issue is done and over with,  yet you had to chime in with your little one-liners....

That's what the Frink does.  This forum accepts it.  If you don't it's going to be a constant problem, with you.  Every forum has their own policies, and certain types of discussions can take place in some and not in others.  This place is significantly more open to all varieties of SW chit-chat locations.

I'm interested in the tf.n location, Frink is not.  Frink will continue to make non-sequitors, that's what he does.  There is no 'done' with Frink.  Great memory/search skillz.

It shouldn't be a surprise for you that many people around here came from tf.n after conversations were moderatored out of existence there.  But there are some who do take part in conversations at both locations.  You decide who you pay attention to.

I had similar doubts about Anakin's official fate. Not just about what was planned back in 77 but also with what's been shown in the CW series, and how would it influence future radical edits of the OT. If officially Anakin never fell to be a Sith and he died as a Jedi, being also the last great star of the Republic, he should have been quite a referent for the Rebels wouldn't he?

It wasn't the book I thought it would be either. With a title like "Secret History of Star Wars" I thought you had found archeological evidence that Star Wars was real and actaully happened 'a long time ago.'

But what you wrote was really good too. :)

I've been pushing the idea of an ebook on my publisher for a while now. I'm working on a second edition of the printed version which hopefully will be available by this christmas, and I'm hoping there will be a digital copy of this available.

He's going to replace all of his own quotes with ones that contradict the original ones, so that we have SHoSW canon wars.

That's what the Frink does.  This forum barely tolerates it.
