Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!) — Page 53

A long time ago, I've read an idea on this forum, to buy Star Wars 35mm print, scan it and color correct it. What has happened with this idea? Did someone actually tried to do something like it?

I understand this would not be an easy task, because we have to get:

Star Wars 35mm print (sometimes someone sells it on ebay)

Scanner with high quality (how to get something like it? Lend it?

How much would it cost together? If everyone interested would give for example 50 Euro, how much could we get?

Could it be any SW 35mm print or must it be something special?

What's then to do? Remove grain? Color correct?

And what about scanning only frames which were replaced by SE? And the rest take from your corrected SW AVCHD Adywan and combine it?

I think forum member Negative 1 was going to do this, but he bailed on us and formed his own private forum.  Party-pooper.

What really needs to happen is a forum member needs to get a job at a multi-media shop with a film scanner.  They would learn how to learn it and when a print became available, they would scan it during the shops closed hours (so you won't get the shop owner busted).  I'd much rather have one of our own learn how to do the scan and scan it on his own equipment than trust it to someone else.

It is too expensive to buy a full-sized 35mm scanner.

So one method of attack fails. Then all we do is find another. If the world gave up after one battle was lost then we would all be speaking German now. If it was released to combat the bootlegs then all we need to do is get a better version out there. A HD scan of a 35mm theatrical print, get people working on it to restore it and get the thing out there. Thanks to the internet this thing would spread like wildfire. This would have already been accomplished if a certain member didn't decide to team up with someone who only wants to restore it for himself and never release it and discard those who were in it from the beginning who wanted to get this thing done and had done a lot of work and research.

Created Star Wars =/= grounds for unconditional praise. I liked them all before he decided they were flawed and needed improvement, now he's trying to rewrite history and say that what everyone saw for the first 30 years of its existence is wrong. And that thar is f'ed up.

Like Ady said (or not, I might've made some deliberate creative changes), this site exists pretty much to shame Lucas' crowd into an honest effort.

So what if I badmouth the forum I like the speical editions and original cuts of the OT and the prequel films as well. It's just that people complan about the original cuts not being on the blu-ray release too much. It will happen maybe not on the fall 2011 release but maybe on the 2017 blu-ray release.

I know it's the main purpose of the site to get the original cuts of the OT on blu-ray. I don't have any problem with that. Their are you happy now? I did'nt grow up with the original cuts like most fans did I did'nt see the 1st film in theaters until 1997. Now do you understand?

Why even be here then if you KNOW the original cuts are coming out at some indeterminate point in the future? You could just happily sit and twiddle your thumbs until the 2011 (or as you said, MAYBE the 2016!) discs.
