I can't believe people are judging a future (a year off still?!) bluray release on some screen caps from a documentary! There's every chance they - the makers of the documentary - grabbed what was available AT THE TIME when making it. Wouldn't surprise me if Lucasfilm are going through the films in order, or at least prequals first as they'd need less work than the originals in terms of bringing them to bluray. They're probably working on the originals now which is why they had to use the current transfers in that documentary.

It's not over till it's over, and a lot can happen in a year.......!

To pronounce you know what the new bluray transfers will look like from watching a documentary is pretty far-fetched IMHO and more than a little reactionary!

 Awww...how idealistic of you.

If you don't think the films from this set are done at this point, you're kidding yourself.

...and how very paranoid of you.

To be honest I'm done with this place - it's no longer fun to hang around here as an old-school fan. Very cliquey and utterly obsessed with fault finding, even to the point of ripping apart a set that has yet to be released and is a year away.

Enjoy your nit-picking folks (cue smart ass retort or oh so funny facepalm gif or animation from the usual suspects). I think I've just had enough of it all for now, the changes to the OT, AND the constant whinging too... off to read the news and get things back in perspective.

Clear skies!

I think it's less a matter of finding fault simply for the sake of fault-finding, and more a matter of letting history be the guide. Since Lucas' attitude of negligence and intentional destruction toward the OUT is well known and well documented, and since his reaction to the botched '04 set was extremely positive despite the technical flaws, and since there is no compelling reason to think that his feelings have substantially changed on this issue, it just seems reasonable to assume that (a) these blurays will not contain the OUT, and (b) the 1080 transfer done in '04 will probably just be recycled for these sets without any color correction.

It's not paranoia; it's merely restrained anticipation based on previous and ongoing trends.

And ordinarily I wouldn't do this, but you did specifically ask:

Yeah, it's not fault finding, its just the realistic expectation. Maybe some stuff will be fixed like the lightsabers, but overall what we saw in 2004 there is no reason to doubt will be seen again in 2011. You don't need to throw a hissy fit over this, wow. It would be foolish to give Lucasfilm the unwarranted benefit of the doubt considering the previous decade of home video releases.

Lucas deserves no credit and no benefit of the doubt. the man is a worthless piece of shit. An out right LIER.

I truly believe  deep down Lucas hates star  wars. Maybe he blames  star wars for losing his wife marcia. Who knows. I personally believe his ego took over.

I have a 1996 entertainment weekly  where Lucas says he has no intention of directing episodes 2 and 3.  After episode 1 got bashed so bad he probably figured he had to redeem himself so he stepped up to the plate again and  struck  out.

His ego will not let him admit   his prequels which he did on his own SUCK. He hates the fact that the film that gets the mos praise episode  5 he  pretty much had NOTHING to do with. He now sees the entire franchise  a something that has ruined him name and reputation and uses it strictly has a tool now to make more money.

Hello folks. I'm new here and I've read a bit of this thread not all of it though.

I will buy the Blu Ray releases just so I can legally download the fan versions later. They will probably not come out of shrink wrap. This is just for the original trilogy as I don't accept the prequels as the back story.

I don't even own a Blu Ray player.

I think this is a good point:

Maybe he blames  star wars for losing his wife marcia. Who knows.

Check out Lucas's first student film:

There is more Kintetic energy and emotion in this short film than in the entire prequel trilogy(IMHO)

I saw Star Wars in 1977. Many, many, many times. For 3 years it was just Star Wars...period. I saw it in good theaters, cheap theaters and drive-ins with those clunky metal speakers you hang on your window. The screen and sound quality never subtracted from the excitement. I can watch the original cut right now, over 30 years later, on some beat up VHS tape and enjoy it. It's the story that makes this movie. Nothing? else.

I am personally looking forward to the Star Wars Saga 2011 Edition! with all its updated team rosters and new gameplay tweaks...

Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.

You know all I hear on the internet from some star wars fans is GL is a lair and they call him names that I can't even say. Why? He created star wars and the prequels of star wars and the speical editions did'nt destroy the series but then again some fans think that way and I have no problem with that it's their opinion.  GL is not a bad guy so don't rip fans who support GL and LFL. And lastly insted of signing a petion to get the original cuts of the ot on blu-ray and complaning about it do something about it.  Petitions don't work and are not effective. We need another way to do it.

What can you do though? Lucas owns the legal copyrights. There is no legal recourse. You can try to change United States law to force a copyright holder who lawfully purchased said rights and who is also one of the main artists behind the films themselves to have their films wrenched away from them--but considering those things, this is not likely to go over well and would possibly require ammending copyright law and the US constitution. Not going to happen easily, and not going to happen period with all the more pressing matters the US has on its hands right now. The only real recourse people have is publically pressuring Lucasfilm to do so, if not for commercial profit then at least for their reputation. If you have any ideas, I can assure you we are all ears. But as you have not been here very long, let me assure you: we've looked at this situation from all angles. We simply have no rights in the matter.

well said Zombie84 and you make a lot of good points. Here's 1 idea write to LFL and nicely ask to release the original cuts along side the SE's on blu-ray.

Leaving aside your contention that Lucas is a "lair" (he has one, but he isn't one, unless there is an evil parasite inside him somewhere), isn't it obvious why people dislike him here?  Yes, he gave us Star Wars.  But he took it away.  I guarantee you if he just released the original movies in good quality, most of the complaints would melt away.

But you've been told this over and over.  And every time, you say something like "good point" or "well said," and then you come back a few weeks later and make the same lame points again.

"Good point" in 3...2...1...

GL is not a lair and he is not a evil person why can't you guys get that. The special editions are his perfered versions of the films I know some people don't like it but he is the filmmaker and he can release his films which ever why he want's to and I am ok with that as long as the original cuts are release along side them.

This is like arguing with a wall...

Anyway, I already said he's probably not a lair, but how is that relevant?

GL is not a bad guy it's just that not all some fans think he is.

kenkraly, i feel like i'm getting deja vu when i read your posts. I still can't see how you can try to tell everyone he is not a liar when he himself has lied on many occasions about the OT and this has been PROVED. Why do you seem to continue to look upon this as its just a case of fans angry with him so they are badmouthing him and calling him a liar?

An example:

The pre-SE OT is too expensive to restore so he won't be releasing it as it isn't a viable option- LIES. It was restored for the '97 SE and this was the WHOLE FILM, not just the parts used for the SE. Even if he had cut up the negative to add the SE parts ( which is highly unlikely and if true would only go on to prove that he wants only to destroy the OUT forever)he could just restore the missing sections without problem. This would cost him virtually nothing and it would certainly be a lot less money that the conversions for 3D are going to cost and the profit from Blu-Ray/DVD sales would far outway the restoration costs.

I could go on but three words just come to mind when i try to explain things to you: flogging, dead & horse.

Go away and watch all the original Making of's of the Original Trilogy that were done prior to 1990 and look up some old interviews done by GL on the net. You will see that he is now lying about a great many things
