STAR WARS - THE ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE - Is Forever ...One Last Time (Television Trilogy Preservation Set + SW Commercial Breaks) -The Ordeal Is Real- & available (Released) — Page 2

Thanks for the feedback DVwerks. I've just added some foley to the intros, most importantly recorded my VCR eating a tape before the main menu kicks in. Since the first random play test worked, thinking maybe there should be three random play menus each signifying a different degradation of the menus going through VCR generation loss. (will probably weight the random options so the massive degredation doesn't show up as frequently) Plus with the last generation being quite severe maybe that might make for some future feedback/"what the crap is this" responses.

I keep putting off the main video final conversion. It's an LP recording (4 hrs) so it's decent, but my capture device recorded at 640x480 (square pixels). Since DVDs are 720 (rectangular pixels), do I stretch to fit (as i've done before) or place the 640 onto 720 matte with black side bars to preserve the original format. (which i think is 712 or 714 pixels?) (don't quite understand the square to rectangular pixel conversion process) Problem is i'm not reviewing on a real TV (don't own one) basing this all off a computer monitor... Will ask this in the tech help forum.

**EDIT**

Last call for material from 77-87 to add to the commercial breaks.  About to lock the time line, add chapter markers and begin the DVD making process.

Preview of the DVD cover: (the background is awful and needs to change, ideas?)

I actually like the cover, even the background.  It fits the light-hearted TV nature of this preservation.  This seems like a fun release.  I shall look forward to it.  :-)

Author

Yeah, the cover has a nice style about it, a certain pizazz, and you gotta love any potshots taken at Luca$.

Am locking the timelines this weekend with the hope of starting the chapter marking process.  Any other information not currently shown on the covers which you all find important to have shown?  Realized i'm missing the DVD9 size and maybe a blurb about other specific dvd info.

Created the SW-image-logo for the other two covers but am searching for other scripted quotations for the 1980-1983 and 1983-1987 covers.  Might just reuse this one, but if you know of 'the other's please suggest it.  Doesn't necessarily need to be from a home video release could be from something else.

As for the background experimenting with combining, in different blending modes, the old VHS cover artwork.  Not sure what's bugging me, need to try different image size and spacing options.

Every time I hear that "Waaaaaa" I get a chuckle attack.

This is going to be so good I can't wait.

I'll also be watching with close interest. Those Billy Dee pics are just hilarious.

The ordeal is real.  ...and it has arrived.

STAR WARS - THE ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE  Is Forever ...One Last Time

Relive or experience for the first time the media blitz which fed off and supported the swelling popularity of the Star Wars.  Hosted by Billy Dee Williams, this preservation of the last broadcast (widescreen letterboxed) of the Original Trilogy has been expanded by Star Wars only commercial breaks from the theatrical release time period showcasing toy/food/apparel commercials, interviews, news reports, trailers, reviews, bumpers and other diverse broadcasted bits about the Star Wars.

Each disc's Star Wars ONLY main feature clocks in at a minimum 4 hrs. 23 min.  But there are play back options from 10 minutes to the 'Play All' 5 hrs. 18 min. epic mythic odysseeic journey. (I don't recommend this)  So although the Ultimate Journey is 13 hrs. 19 min., if you're still infotainment starved, the random play menus (Intro, Main Menu and Options Menu) each have three variations representing home video recording generation loss.  Try to play them all, full glitch version provides programming secrets!

Thanks for the kind words IrishLuck1980.

Odd opportunity has arisen, LFL has announced the 3D theatrical release of the movies and in the HollywoodReporter article they predicts an "ultimate home viewing experience", so if you're bored, in the comment sections of articles which appear in the next couple weeks, please drop in the Title of this project.

Absolutely great stuff, none.  :)

Watch out for the flying Threepios!  I'm surprised Spectreman didn't make an appearance!

These really feel like a VHS experience, only better with menus and chapter selection!

Are you going to upload any of the commercials or short segments to youtube if any are not there already?

Also, did you get the 1995 THX commercial that used a split screen to compare the improvement with the new digital mastering? (it's not the One Last Time ad)

I have no plans to, but anyone can take the DVD and pull out those bits.  If you want the original file, I can post it somewhere.

That one is not part of this project.  and it's not ringing a bell.  Had begun a separate project which would center around trailers:

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Star-Wars-Original-Trilogy-Theatrical-and-Home-Video-Trailers-Deconstruction/post/427212/#TopicPost427212

So I'll be on the look out for that one.  Back in 2006, Sluggo had started a thread to collect all the trailers.

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/lt-The-Star-Wars-Trailers-Project-gt/post/218379/

and both project would benefit from each other.  We'll see if something can be coordinated.

This looks so amazingly awesome! Unfortunately, I don't have the time to d/l RAR after RAR after RAR after RAR after RAR after.... you get the idea.

Any chance of making a torrent of these?

Thanks, hope someone enjoys the effort.  A torrent can be created, suggest a place.  In the mean time, various programs can make the RAR downloading process automated.

For instance, there are plugins for firefox like FlashGot or DownloadHelper which might allow you to download all.  (if you do use this method please set the number of connections to 2, if you can)

Another method is jDownloader, which again can automate the download process.  jDownloader's linkgrabber requires the actual file links.  To get that list go to the folder in a webbrowser, copy all the text.  Will look like this:

SWUE01.part001.rar 18-Sep-2010 09:49 49M
SWUE01.part002.rar 18-Sep-2010 09:53 49M
SWUE01.part003.rar 18-Sep-2010 09:56 49M

go to a text editor like wordpad and find replace the beginning of each link with the full url.  So find "SWUE" replace with "full html link+SWUE".  That will create the actual link, and now you can copy/paste the text doc into jDownloader's linkgrabber and it'll pull out the links and start downloading the files.

Here's the process condensced:

browser: ((Link from FAQ))

cntrl-A - cntrl-C

open text editor

cntrl-V

find "SWUE" replace with "http://Link from FAQ/SWUE"

cntrl-A - cntrl-C

open jDownloader

cntrl-V into linksgrabber

done!

Hope that helps.

For Newsgroups, search at Binsearch and generate a nzb file which you open using NZB-O-Matic Plus, works very well too.

Thanks to Marty McFly two of the three Carrie Fisher hosting broadcasts have been digitized by the :F:L:I:M:S:I:P:L:A:S:T: :D:A:T:A:B:A:S:E:.

After finding the usenet request, Marty McFly offered up his tapes.  ('Star Wars and 'Return of the Jedi') Many Thanks.  But still looking for Empire.  Marty's fairly certain his copy hasn't been thrown away, but it's unlocatable at the moment.

All three movies use the same set, so the Fisher hosting segments are not as vibrant as Billy Dee's but she was either allowed more room to speak her mind or took advantage of the situation, so the segments are a little more interesting.

About the splitscreen trailer, I saw an excerpt of it on some website in a really low quality, low color space. This was the days before youtube and internet video.

Might have been the same site that had clips of the holiday special, part of the making of the SE, and the deleted scenes from the CD rom. I'm talking late 2004, early 2005.

What? Carrie Fisher speaking her mind? Surely not! ; )

I hope the Empire segments can be found. I'd love to see em all again.

Haven't come across that one.  I don't remember seeing it to be honest.  Am looking, they were splitscreen top and bottom?

tag has been accepted, it's not getting used.

Here are two of the old school SW video sites:

http://multimedia.theforce.net/

http://www.starwarz.com/tbone/index.php?categoryid=27

This looks promising:

http://www.blueharvest.net/video/original.shtml

Link doesn't work but they describe something similar: compare.mov

Comparison made between the original movie quality and the THX enhanced version.

Could it have been a CNN news report, they link to CNN.com.

The days before youtube were not that bad.  (see tBSWM, 700 sources before youtube) best thing everything was decentralized.  Youtube's made the trade off that more people could upload, but it's also taken away the public's need to understand the basics of video.  So now that the <video> tag has been accepted, people aren't able to build off it and see how video could be reused.  Internet video has become the same as television, a one way street.  Could have been so much more.  Just going to take another 5-10 years...
