God, i'm away for a little while and it's gone a little mad in here.

I can't believe that the transport shot has been brought up again. I guess this is what happens when and old pic is posted again without the description or any of the comments i made after it.

This was a MOCK-UP shot and was only to try out the new partially finished matte and ship placement. The ships hadn't even been rendered at their full resolution at this stage and the whole image was far from complete. I also stated that there was some more background activity with pilots/troopers to add once the 2nd unit filming was complete that will give the scene it's scale.  The 2nd unit saw a more complete video version a few days later and a lot of thing had changed now i had the full resolution renders. Here's the newer version minus the added background characters:

Now i've got a lot of reading to do to see what else i missed. If anyone is awaiting a reply to any emails or PM's , i will get around to answering them as soon as i can

Ady, I always thought that shot was a little boring. Think we could juice it up with a few farting rontos?

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

See, if we argue something long enough he gives us a new pic ;-)

Now, let's discuss new Cloud City mattes. :-)

Oh, asterisk8, you're quite mistaken about the ferry pic you posted. When I say "haze" I don't necessarily mean literal haze, like the air isn't clear. But if there is no change with distance, then you're saying the distinct blue tinting and contrast reduction seen on the mountain lines and trees suddenly stops before it reaches the ferry. It doesn't, it's just less obvious.

And it looks to me like in Ady's finished pic there is mostly definitely adjustment to the blacks in the distance, both the ships and the hangar entrance.

I understand that it doesn't just stop, Lemonstein. I'm a graphic designer by trade, so this is not a new area to me, but I was resisting the urge to get too technical. My point has always been that at the distance the transports are from the camera, the light scattering, luminance and contrast veiling, and desaturation should be minimal. They are not miles away, but only a couple hundred meters. And furthermore, atmospheric perspective in a shot like this depends greatly on the physical camera, optics, the camera's settings, and post-processing.

Great work on the new shot, adywan. Can't wait to see it in motion with people walking around and behind the transports.

Please, don't resist using such technical terms with me, I'm sure I'll cope. My point, and you should know this if you're a designer, is that, bottom line, a shot has to work. If it doesn't you change it, regardless of what real atmospherics dictate. So in this sort of shot, if those rebel transports don't look like they're in the background, you do whatever is necessary to make it work.

Adywan are you doing a fix for the scale of the TIE Fighters for Vaders fleet?

There is one shot of a TIE going behind the command section of a Star Destroyer that would make the TIE extremely large.

The scale being wrong happens a few times. I'm going off the fact the Star Destroyer is 1600m long I'm not sure if that is the case or not.

I thought perhaps remove TIEs that are wrong scale

Reduce them to make them in scale

or have them cut in front of the command section to remove scale problem.

Sorry I don't have any pics for reference just yet.

I think i know which scene you are talking about. It's the one where we see the shadow of the stardestroyer covering up the stardestroyer just after the probe has been destroyed. The TIE that goes behind the bridge has been removed and the one that looks like it comes from behind the bridge actually just appears from nowhere as it is missing from the first few frames. All these have been fixed in this shot, but i haven't seen this happening anywhere else apart from this shot.

Yep those were the ones. I only noticed it on my last watch of Empire and thought I'd bring it up. Glad you got it already.

I see you lower a bit the image Ady ;) You gave more space to the sky. Pretty bold move. Nice new details on the ships. Still even you boosted the oranges id like to see a more uniform graduation for the troopers/pilots about depth/haze.

I hope you can show us some mockups how you imagine the shot with the newly placed elements of pilots so it doesnt look like the pilots and the ships are not in the same image.

Question: Will you try to stabilize the X wing that coming as foreground when R2 preparing it for luke? it looks that is not hovering but is on wheels.

I always thought it was a levitating Xwing when it comes that way. Maybe i got it wrong.

I hope the UK shoot of the xwing/r2 close up will have some more traffic of xwings in the sky and tie more with the previous/later shots.

Btw wasnt supposed that other xwings should be landed/taking of(like luke's) in this area apart the ones that might go out from the hangar?

Nice to know that the ties are being removed. Will you add more or better ones?

In the establishing shot when we see under the ongoing SD bridge we see only SDs but no TIES. will you add them there too in the distance?

Any SD that comes from the outerspace on screen?

I hope you can get the executor topic too ;)

The Executor yes its a matter that needs to be fixed. Not that is wrong and i dont count any nostalgia here, just is a copy paste element that for some reason makes the ship looks small in the asteroid shot.

vaderios said:

Any change you will replace the executor element in one of the two shots( establishing at the beginning of the movie and in the asteroid shot) that is a flipped element?

There are no flipped or re-used images of the executor in the movie (i don't count the added SE shot during the bespin escape that they couldn't even be bothered to recolour to match the rest of the movie). As you can see here they are 2 different takes in the 2 shots you mentioned. I flipped the asteroid one so you can see that they aren't the same

If i was to change the angle of the ship then wouldn't i have to use an existing shot for this, which would then create a copy paste scenario? The shot is fine as it is. I've never had a problem with it, and i don't think there would be any stardestroyers following it out as vader would have ordered them to continue the search for the falcon.

Jaitea said:

Any word of the second unit led by 'Rogue Leader', did Ady send out all the backpacks and props he created?

I haven't sent the stuff off to Rogue Leader yet as i still have a couple of things to finish. With everything that has been going on it left me little time to get them done, but they're almost complete. Then i've just got to find £200+ to ship the items to the USA.

Tallguy said:

So, if that's the rebel cave that the Falcon just flew out of, doesn't that mean that Darth Vader is RIGHT THERE?

No, the hangar entrance that you see in the transport shot is a different entrance. You can see the distinction between the two in the new shot i posted (well almost but you will see it clearly in motion)

Ripplin said:

How's the camera working by the way, Ady? Are you satisfied with the results?

It's working pretty well so far. I did some test shots and it looks pretty good.

Adywan, I think you should just give up on this Wampa. It's taking too long and you don't even know if this is going to work? I thought the one in the movie sufficed. I think you should have just edited using that.

You ve got guts i can say that to you!

Now i can see the endless debate that will defend the opposite point of view.( ESF already started XD)

At least someone expressed it ;) Thanks

Wow, so i guess from that statement Angel that you feel exactly the same way as Ghostbusters about this then?

If i was to have this attitude then i wouldn't have done hardly anything in the Revisited edits. I have the mindset that anything is possible and that you don't know what you can achieve until you try it. I would rather this edit takes another 3 years to complete than rush things and discard things just because it may be a little too difficult or would take a lot of time to achieve.

I've heard about this Sevb kid, Adywan told me about him, but I haven't noticed him. He sounded like an annoying prick that doesn't appreciate the effort put into this (sorry for sounding hypocritical here).

You are twins, separated at birth.

Let's see, I've donated a few times, and I sometimes (and often go months between asks) ask for a new still or clips and I am treated like a murderer in here by a few. Ady once or twice gave me what I asked for, for example he went with my early suggestion of one new still a week for a while. I mean if someone was bending enough and gave what you asked for in the past, wouldn't you see if they'd do it again once in a while? Vbangle, you've treated other people like crap here too, for daring say anything you didn't agree with.

What mess? Is this something to do with Flipper still? Somebody should shoot that dolphin.

Ady, that new shot of the transports is terrific.

God, we've become so spoiled. Take a step back guys, take a breath, and then maybe you'll realize how lucky we are to have artists dedicated enough to undertake this endeavor......for the love of it.

In General lines it looks the same. Im wondering why the light are coming always from the same place even the image is flipped! ;)

Btw this asteroid shot is final or you will add your new asteroid elements?

Far from it. I just said that someone had the guts expressed that to you with that way. I was sure it will be like this and everyone will start defend the opposite position. A-man said it way to perfect to say it again ;)

And as you know im still here helping/contributing you, finding errors and thinking ways making this edit some better even some others told me not to add you more work XD

Gosh darnit, he's right! :) Never thought of that.
Let's just assume ady has already fixed all light and shadow drop errors :)

Yay! new pics!

I actually liked the old transport pic, because it was so new and different, plus it gave a whole different perspective of the Rebel force, which I thought was interesting. But this new one, I have to say, with the little improvements, looks even better!

Nice work.

Btw, Ady is it true that if you donate now you get a small little pressie clip?! ;-P

i have doubts tho about the lightning issues. These kind of issues are not bothering ady or even the average viewer. Still it looks the same to me from the pov of the similar angle.

Maybe it's because the model has a simple geometry and that's the best way to show the difference between planes? It seems the obvious way to highlight it to me.

Those two shots are very similar, like Angel said, but then how many ways can you shoot that model from the side?

 (Edited)

Angel: You'll notice that you can see all 3 engines on the bottom in the fleet intro shot, whereas you can only see 2 engines on the bottom when the Executor leaves the asteroid field:

Regardless, for all intensive purposes, it may as well be the same shot, as it is essentially the same angle.

Frankly, I personally like Angel's image below as an alternative:

Even so, I can understand the Executor having it's 2 standard escorts, as most large vessels (such as aircraft carriers and battleships) always have escorts for various reasons.  Now an alternative possibility could be to show the 2 SDs (one on either side) move up and to the right as, after they help guide/escort the Executor out of the asteroid field they peel off to go right back in to continue the search.

Also, would it be conceivable to show laser fire and/or explosions in the far distance inside the asteroid field to show something of the fleet's presence within it?

In regards to another point Angel made, I know you would not be able to use the detail on the underbelly (in the 2nd shot) for the shot above it, as the bespin shot is further up the Executor's body... but I could also see the entire Executor replaced with the flipped Bespin shot, so as to give it greater detail:

Such as this:

Even so, would it be conceivable to add more asteroids around the Executor, as well as hitting the Executor shields?  Not so much causing damage (as the Executor shields would be powerful enough to slog through without taking damage to the ship itself), but again to show how congested the asteroid field is?

_________________________________

Some more general questions:

(1) In regards to the Executor itself, will the lights on the nose be changed to blue to match the rest of the Executor lights on the side (for consistency) or will they remain orange/yellow?

(2) When the Falcon is flying along side the Executor at the end, will the side be darkened and have lots of blue lighting added to match what we see in all previous shots of the Executor or will it remain the same?
