What I liked about the original, original hologram is the Emperor Chimplady screws her eyes almost shut while contemplating the possibility of turning Luke and smiles, which added to the idea he/she was a sort of twisted version of Yoda.

check the 2004 version and he never blinks in that either, his gaze remains static throughout

Good point, I guess I was thinking there was more articulation there than there really was. Maybe I was thinking of the original blink.

Good point? I dunno about that. The '04 version looked HORRIBLE and that static gaze didn't help anything. Why wouldn't he blink? He does in Jedi. He isn't some weird eyelid-less creature. Maybe it's impossible to do, but I think there should be a bit of blinking to add life and realism to an otherwise almost static picture.

Actually the Emperor hardly blinks at all in Jedi. For example, look at the scene where the Emperor is goading Luke while he watches the battle, then snaps and uses his sabre. Throughout the whole speech he doesn't blink once. The same thing in other scenes

Ture. You win!

I actually watched all the emperor scenes from Jedi this afternoon and was returning to this thread to correct myself. Still, a blink or two would go a long way to making it look more like a living image than a still photo. Then again, all I have to go by is the very quick shot shown in the trailer you made a long time ago.

I agree, but maybe it's not just the non blinking, it just seems his eyes should have slight movements. But it's probably just me.

Also, Ady where did you get the side view element of the hologram? It lines up perfectly with the lighting on the hood in the front view!

It looks very nice....can't wait to hear it with the proper audio. The mouth movements seem a little off, timing wise.....is it timed to the audio you plan on putting in?

So Ady, does the final Emperor hologram still say "young Skywalker" or does it say "Luke Skywalker"?

As Ady just said, he hasn't gotten around to the audio side of things. But I am hoping that he will try to add the "Luke" in there, since it has been proven to be possible already.

Ady, clearly some folk don't pay attention to movies very much. Most actors hardly EVER blink on screen when they're delivering lines, unless it's deliberately done to convey an emotion or thought.

Pick any movie with decent actors in it and watch how little you see them blink, and watch someone without them knowing and see the difference.

The eyes may be static, but the lack of blinking isn't the reason.

Yes, but they are also usually gesturing with their hands, moving their heads and bodies and dozen other things that living people do. The thing with this emperor head is that it's a still picture, and from what very little I've seen of it, it looks like a still picture... Still looks better than the other versions though lol. A little eye movement would really help make it seem alive. The blinking old lady/ape face in the original looked more alive than the unblinking straight staring Halloween mask version in '04 does.

I understand your problem with the Emperor, but in other movies, regardless of what else an actor is doing, they aren't blinking, not even in close-ups when you can't see other body language. Of course, they're not still, but the Emperor being made to blink wouldn't look right.

Granted, I haven't seen the finished clip, but I suspect this is a case of knowing that it's a still image effecting the way you watch the scene. If you didn't know, it would just look like the Emperor is sitting very still, and that is kind of creepy in its own right, isn't it?

Yeah, being familiar with the image does have it's effects, but I recognized the star destroyers during the ANH:R Death Star reveal from other scenes in the trilogy and it didn't bother me or take me out of the scene because it looked great. Again, I haven't seen the final clip, I'm just worried that every time I see it I'll think of old Conan O'Brien clips.

I dunno if the blinking just for the sake of blinking would be a real added value....the whole purpose was to correct flaws, which by now I think they have been more than corrected....

Just some thoughts...

I liked that he removed the yellow/green color from the panel room when piet informs vader.

Palpatine's clarity and the quality of the hologram is top notch.

I see he replaced again the top section of the background when we see palpatine's face from front.

There is  too much interference and shaking in the holo.

Quality noise in between frames that shows the noise/tremble effect.

Behind palpatine the background looks too static. There was a little light that were blinking in the dark rentagle in the wall.

The audio is temp but still i judge what i saw. The lip sync was poor.

Vader's close up after a while was reversed footage.

I like but i dont if its correct that the lines in the side view to be angled and even the holo animation lines follow that. i like the aggresive look still it might be an artistic choice.

The glow in the emperor's side view was too clean. was begging for some grain
The changes between the clean and the distorted signal are way too fast. if they could be slightly slowed down it would be ideal.

Some interesting points there. So is the clip the finished thing or a work in progress? Without seeing it, those of us too poor to donate right now can't see how it looks. I know Ady said the audio isn't final yet, but how about the visual side of things? Thanks.
