Here's a little something I'd really like to see in Jedi. During the space battle, it would be nice to see the Falcons gunners like Han and Luke in 'Hope. I love those gun turrets and targeting screens and it would be nice to see shots of the battle from that view point, see another couple rebel characters in the film and add some cool shots of imperial fighters getting taken out. You could maybe even add a bit of dialog between them and Lando at one point.
Yes? No?
Definitely Yes!!..... it would be tricky to do....but not impossible.

I absolutely agree. Honestly, it wouldn't bother me too much if we never see the gunners themselves, but I'd love to see the guns firing as the Falcon flies around through the battle.

Not usually a big fan of changes like this (ie: I think the DS II should stay the way it is) but I think this is a great idea......and I'm with Ash on this one....gunners no, but guns firing, hells yes
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you do see the Falcon's turrets firing in ROTJ.

Yes, you do, but there are no good "hero shots" of the Falcon gunning anyone down. I think a shot from over the shoulder of the top gunner chasing down and blasting a fighter would be great. And a reaction shot to the gunners grinning face would make me cheer.

Shots like this were filmed but cut. Perhaps we might see them on the blueray release... ?

That dude is grizzled! I like it. He doesn't look like a young ILM employee.
Any good reference for a nice space battle choreography?
Battlestar Gallactica doesnt count. Star wars-y space choreography...

You could always try The Dam Busters...

Yeah thanks.
it might work tho.
so assembling a short list of war movies that have similar editing and shots with star wars.

If you have to take inspiration from another space opera Babylon 5 did a lot of space battles with fighters and capital ships and it could serve not only as an example of what works but also what doesn't for this situation.
Sure the ship models are a little dated now but they were really well choreographed.
What I like about some of the existing material is when we got a few shots that remembered that space is three dimensional and capital ships could be upside down from the point of view of the camera and still make sense.

That made me smile a lot.

What about 633 squadron? GL said it was the inspiration for the battle of yavin.

It would be kind of neat if Jabba the hutt lived in an oasis. It would also make him seem more powerful, or not
Just don't shoot me in the face.
Awesome idea!
GL might say that, and he might be right — I haven't seen it — but about 70% of the dialogue in said battle is lifted straight from The Dam Busters.
Been watching the Return of the Jedi: Dan Edit (by Yads)
does he post here? he cut out a lot of the silliness. it's awesome.
anyway, i just now realized that when Stormtroopers & Biker Scouts speak none of them have the clicks right before you hear their voice and the click when they're done speaking! small detail yet very important in my opinion.

It would make a great snowman.
If you painted it silver and filmed it melting you might have a better thawing sequence for ROTJ:R too (or maybe not).
Is there a better way to film the melting sequence?
There is so much talk here about the DS2, so I thought I'd share a link:

These people are truly amazing and it's worth a look around the site. Maybe some of the modelers would be interested in having their work appear in some fan edits?

I almost thought to say that it was a little too morbid for Star Wars, until I thought back.
"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas
