Looks good.

I hadn't known that you'd been doing the JSC sound, or I'd have mentioned it before.  It's only recently that I've heard any of the older laserdisc tracks--I've never even owned a laserdisc player.  I grew up with 1992 vhs versions, and didn't know about any other mixes apart from the SE's until I came to this forum.  It can get a bit confusing keeping track of them all, though I do find it very interesting.  ;)

Edit: wait, I have just to remove the 1985 from Empire then...?

... That's the only difference I can see...

Are you sure ? If yes it's done in 5 minutes...

Oh, and btw, I didn't want to make some but after all... I think it's the last time I play with this SW material... Simples but here:

Funny how all this look OT.comesque in the end. ;)

Goodbye OT.com, and take care. ;)

... And stop watching Star Wars, seriously !

(...That said I have one last topic to post in the Off Topic section... Don't worry Moth3r, nothing bad).

Good to know about the lack of an ESB '85 mix.

I wasn't sure and had no way of knowing, which is why I did my best to identify what LDs could have had a 1985 remix on them.  At least we now have it straightened out, so there won't be dupe mixes on the V3 DVDs.

And ABC/Leguman, those labels are perfect to go with those covers.  Easily my favorite trilogy set I've ever seen (definitely better than my '90s VHS set).  Very well done, sir!

I've said it once, and I'm more than happy to say it again;

Leguman, you're a true artist in every sense of the word, and those covers are truly stunning.

DJ, Have you thought about adding a selectable crawl to the beginning of Star Wars?  There is really no definitive version of the original, Episode IV crawl archived.  The SE crawl has a different star field, and some different timings, so I think it should be regarded as a different version.

To me, Moth3r's pal dvd seems to be the best quality version, but when comparing to my DC and 1989 Laserdiscs, the framing is off.  Additionally, there are some noticeable recording or encoding artifacts present.

I'm just curious if you'd considered this as otherwise I will attempt to tackle this myself (I think it would require a new capture), though the most obvious issue would be matching the EP. IV crawl to the dvd Gout footage.

If you can point me to a copy of Moth3r's PAL DVD, I'd be greatly appreciative.  I'd like to have that Episode IV crawl for posterity myself.

How do the holograms, binocular shots and officer screens look like in TESB? Would it be hard to ie. recolor the information in the binoculars from red to original green or how about the colors in Luke's garage in SW?

The video is all done for all movies, plus I do not know how to have a selectable crawl option on the DVD, so to answer your question, probably not.

plus I do not know how to have a selectable crawl option on the DVD

One way to do it is to use the Playlist option of DVDs.  The main video file has the whole movie and both crawls, one after the other, this will cut down on the search time when transitioning from the chapter marker points.  The playlist is made up of the Chapter Markers, and you skip the crawl which is not being used.  (i'm using the terminology from DVD Studio Pro, might be called something else in the programs you are using)

Another option would be multi-angle / alternative angle, heard about it but haven't done it myself.

The playlist option just means there's extra video to be accounted for, the multi-angle might work like having a second audio channel, where it affects the bit-rate of the video encoding, but not sure.

I use DVD Lab Pro and I still have no idea how to do this so I am pretty certain this option will not be on this set.

While interesting, it sounds like it would just add an unnecessary delay to the project.

I have actually done it before using DVD Maestro.  It really just involves encoding the video for the overlapping crawls correctly.

However, I'm really most concerned about getting a good enough LD rip of the EP IV crawl.  One that would closely match the quality of the GOUT, and would have the correct framing.

You have a lot more experience working the scripts, etc, to enhance the video.  I could easily encode the final DVD, given help with the source material.

I've got an old version of ANH I made about two years ago, which I could upload as a proof of concept.

Wouldn't it be easiest to encode the separate crawls as alternate angles on the DVD?  That's how EditDroid did it, if I recall correctly.

DJ, I replied to your email.

Yes, that's how I've done it before.

Keep in mind that d_j can't possibly include everything people want on these dvd's.  They are primarily meant to be the best rendition of the GOUT video with various alternate soundtracks, not an archive of every tiny little thing there has ever been.  Keep the expectations to a reasonable level, folks.  ;)

Very well said hairy_hen, a lot better and nicer than I would have said it LOL.

Thanks
