I found a forum where someone said they had changed to a different name.  Couldn't find the name, however.

So is the Japanese HD versions and BBC HD versions for all 3 films available somewhere?

Alright.  So how does one get a hold of these transfers?  I've got about 570GB free on my editing hard drive, that should be enough to work with these, though I don't have any way to author them to AVCHD (unless Adobe Encore can do it - I'm not that familiar with Encore, though).

I can make nice MKVs without the letterboxing, though.

I would like to check these out if they're available somewhere......thanks.

Without DNR or EE or artificial sharpening I hope.

Of course.  They'd just be re-encodes of the HD broadcasts, at 1080p, with no filtering, unless some color correction is necessary to help the two sources blend together seamlessly.

Personally, I have no interest in dealing with groups that waste Usenet resources by posting password-protected files, but someone else might want to search out where these guys went to.

 

 

Well, I appreciate your position on this, but when you are posting films on usenet, there is a danger of copyright infringement.   Passwording is for the uploaders safety, so dont think for a second we do it selfishly.  None of us do it for money, just to share our work.

 

The site is now invite only due to us being shut down BECAUSE we posted without passwords.   I posted these a long time ago, but if anyone has a decent news service, might be able to get them.

anyway, these were from the Japanese broadcasts, I was able to remove 'most' of the japanese hardcoded subtitles.   I bumped up the bitrate slightly to make up for the re-encode.

Believe me, these copies of the HDTV broadcast are as close to the originals as possible.

 I believe I gave you the source of the WOWOW (japanese) broadcast a LONG time ago.  

Yea I remembered that shortly after posting, but how does the BBC version compare?

I believe the BBC version has a lower bitrate overall with a softer picture. 

Perhaps, but it's still the best source to replace the parts in the Japanese version that don't have a clean image.

If it can even be found anymore, I surely would love to get my hands on it, as I already have the Japanese versions.

There you go, someone who has it but did not offer to share, so do you think still that we can find it?

I am still looking though, maybe together CA we can get this.

If I do it, they'll both be converted into Avid DNxHD anyway, and I'll handle the framerate conversion and color correction within Avid.

I'd just use the Japanese one's audio, since Avid can't work with 5.1, and I wouldn't need to change the audio anyway.  My video can just be muxed to the Japanese's 5.1 audio.

Then I'd export a master (possibly DNxHD or ProRes) and use that to make MKVs, AVCHDs, and whatever else would be desired.

The conversion into Avid would bring it to a higher-quality, higher-bitrate format, so very little, if any information will be lost.  Same with the export master, and all rendered effects (color correction) within Avid.

I just need the files to work from and I can do this (I think) rather quickly.

Well, the audio from the Japanese broadcasts were not english, you would need to sync the DVD audio to them.

I can easily find the synced tracks for you and they should be under 400 days old on usenet

I think there are only 3 instances where any hardcoded subs show in the image, the rest were in the black bars of the broadcast which I removed in my encode.

1 in Raiders at the beginning where it says 'South America 1936'

1 in Temple at the beginning where it says 'Shanghai'

1 in Crusade where Indy and Connery look at the signs pointing to Berlin after the motorcycle scene.

I think that was all of them that I noticed when I watched them recently, so you shouldnt have alot of work to do there.  I had a bit of trouble trying to find the right IVTC method though for the encode, but I am sure you could easily figure it out.

DAMN you are not kidding there, that is what made me stop and just back up all files on an external, I totally forgot about that.

So are the BBC versions still available somewhere or not?
