Aesthetically excellent, tough the beam moves too fast, is there any chance to slow it down a little?
I find the mouse unfocused and destructing. Now we have to see 3 things at once. The energy beam the red light and the mouse.( you have to use wisely whatever radical to guide or impress the eye. never distract it (aka rontos in your face)
I say keep the beam which i love and then you can do something similar with the krypton room when jor el puts the little baby in the ship.
Waving the opacity up and down can give that energy type of thing as well with the appropriate sfx.
You nailed it again Mr j!!!

Excellent work Jaitea.......I also really like the idea of the the mouse-droids being a little more versatile. Sort of like how we got to see the R2 units on the outsde of the ship in TPM making repairs, I thought that was a cool bit.
I wonder if in some of the test shots (where you guys are animating these awesome beams of light energy) how it might look if the beams were perhaps encased in tubing/covering and only through windows or openings in the tubing could we see the electricity flowing.
Just an idea...not sure though. So long as the tubing doesn't take away or obscure too much of the cool new visual.
Here's a crude mock-up.......I guess this would be more of a less is more approach.
I know this is probably the wrong thread for this kinda talk.... And while I appreciate the work, J.... It's just sooo busy. It's so busy that I don't focus on what I should be focusing on... Mt attention should be on Obi-Wan but I'm busy watching all the Christmas lights. Does that make sense?
Yes. I happen to agree.
I mention that fact in my post.

You have to find a balance of what can be in and what is not. Or at least make a camera movement that shows all the elements with a rate that can lead to our main subject.Cinematography first.

No, this is the right place to discuss. I know what you are talking about, it does look a bit busy........I could try and tone it down...perhaps replacing the column with a glow that pulsates......dunno.....but remember this is a radical ideas thread....just a cooking pot for ideas.....I'll try and realise your ideas.

Good post mr J.
In that way we can put several ideas in motion and then decide thru feedback and notes what is good to stay or toned down or replaced.
:)
You have a PM

The tractor beam changes don't bother me so much as it's more of a enhanced version of what is already there.
It's the little abrupt things that pop up here and there that cause your eyes to go to them. If it was a David Blaine show, maybe I could understand. My point is simply, if you're going to enhance; do it in such a way that it doesn't distract from the story.
However, I have been impressed with what you've been able to accomplish. Would love to see you take a stab at a edit.. And maybe that's you're intention?
^^ What everyone's saying is sorta related to the quick pic I posted with the coverings over the beam of light.
Just thinking maybe if the light were obstructed a little bit it wouldnt draw your eye so much to it.
New mattes to solve the shot inconsistencies and tried to make the shadows less like it was sunset time rather day time matching them with the rest of the shots.
Really the sun changes so many times in this sequence that its practicaly impossible to fix it all. Lets say reduce it as possible.
Some more interesting texture work as well. The sky is temp

As much as I loathe the Coppola Dracula one of my favourite bits is when we see Keanu's Harker walking around the castle and there is a rat walking upside down on a ceiling beam.
It's a bizarre image and while my eye does go to it for a moment I'm still focused on Harker but instead of him just walking down a corridor he is walking into a bizarre magical dark world.
That's the sort of thing I was thinking about with the mouse droid.
Ben is still doing the same thing but the atmosphere is more strange and foreboding like he is sneaking around a mechanical enemy castle with mechanical rats.
Adding directional side lights may help draw the eye more on Ben but having some weird stuff happening in the corners of the frame could add atmosphere.

I see what i can dig along these lines Bingo :)
Btw take and other image :)
As you can see some other shots are easier to follow because there are already sun light :)

The less clouds in the Tatooine sky the better. Moisture is supposed to be so hard to obtain that they have to use technology to farm it.
IMHO your "improvements" make it harder to watch/see angel

That's actually a pretty good reason.
Im considering adding the 3 moons of tattoine in the night/sunset shots.
Now i had an idea that im playing with so i need feedback before i can proceed.
The idea is adding an industrial building like a fallen ship or a big machine that is broken and be the base of the sandcrawler and the jawas. So the sand crawler is the remote basement of them.(see the pic)
Or replace the matte with a more interesting angle(aggressive one) of the sandcrawler and have smaller camps and crawlers in the distance (See the pic)
What do you think will work best?
-Angel
I like the 1st and the 3rd one. I know the 1st one is a drawing, but it looks pretty impressive. It would be great to see something like that come to life.
Also, I like the Predators reference. XD
Considering adding a new establishing shot to make things grander rather close to characthers when the sandcrawler is damaged from the troopers.
-Angel
Actually, I was thinking about making Stormtroopers more evil. We should see them do/hear them say some bad/evil stuff. That way we would hate The Empire even more. Because now - every bad thing they do - we see everything off screen (killing jawas, killing Luke's parents).
Well true but i dont have a problem with that.
Star wars manga shows actually the troopies shooting the jawas.
it can work as a del scene but we do have troopers(the fan film ) to do that dont we?
The difference between PT and OT is that when a blaster hits an other one it shows an exposion when in PT we see just a bit burnmark.
From that fact and only that showing violence is remarkable too. no blood references.
Less is more and by the fact that ANH's story actually convinces you that something bad happening rather TPM i prefer to open up the landscapes and the rooms so something bigger and oppened is there. I remember Lucas said that in OT everything is small and in PT everything is big and expanded.
I have that plan to do in SW and before the SE haters start bashing reconsider this..

I'm a SE hater........
...but there is no harm in making an 'alternative artistic' version.
We are not replacing anything, just a different point of view.

Well, to be honest, I'm throwing these R-Rated ideas here because I love R-Rated movies, and I love bloody action. I love blood, violence, swearing and nudity in movies. Blood shows pain, violence shows fear and power, swearing shows emotions and nudity is something that is of, if done right, pure awesomeness.
And I would LOVE to see a well done, R-Rated, Grindhouse-type of FanEdit of Star Wars.
I know there's "War of The Stars", but in my honest opinion, it was a wasted opportunity and it wasn't cool enough. Just couple of jokes and a really bad image quality. TMBM is actually very talented fan-editor and I'm 100% sure he could've done a better job.
Just imagine all those Clone War scenes from PT with gore just like in "Saving Private Ryan", or Natalie Portman showing some nudity, or Anakin yelling out some swear words... If done right, I think it would be amazing!
