Wow, that's pretty bad. Though I'm still unsure that all of those are James Earl Jones in the English version!

And why is that? GL even "insinuated" they got the good man back to voice that little bit of Vader in ROTS.

Here (Czech Republic) they made an all new dubbing for the SEs but they kept the "Bring my shuttle" line as it was in the original and the "You're lucky you don't taste very good" too. And the 2004 SEs were never dubbed to Czech.

I acknowledge the irony of myself writing this but there are plenty of places for general Star Wars chat.

If you have a point that will help Ady with this project this is the place to go, once in a while a joke is welcome but the balance seems a bit off on this thread.

Besides the Off Topic and Star Wars chat areas are being starved of some of these fun observations.

You're right Bingowings, but I'd say it's quite easy drifting back off to Off-Topic business. It only needs one post and BLAM! No more Death Star ;)

Ady:

Regarding the Dagobah scene...
Will you be leaving everything in as it is?
The "looking for Yoda" bit when he was right in Luke's face sort of mocking him always made him look childish. I always considered this unbecoming of one of the greatest Jedi ever, to almost seem senile and demented, while in fact he was still in good health and of good mind.

He was acting crazy to test Luke's resolve. That, and he probably hasn't talked to anyone but ghosts for 23 years. ;-)

I always loved that. Yoda has a very good way of bringing out (in some ways) the worst in Luke, making him lose his temper and his patience, testing him before he even introduces himself. It's a fairly common trope in heroes' journeys.

And it's not even completely spoiled by the prequels. If you haven't seen them, sure, you're wondering what the hell is going on and why Luke is being accosted by a senile frog who talks backwards. If you have, you're thinking "oh crap, Yoda's been on his own here for 20 years, he's lost his marbles, Obi's sent Luke here for nothing and he's stuck here, the galaxy's boned." Not the same twist, but there's still a twist of sorts there.

This Yoda sequence is one of the greatest things about him, and also a phylosophical one related to a major (and oooold) arcanum: the Fool... In other words, the great privilege of the wisests.

... Don't ever think to remove such things !

I can easily relate after having read RoccondilRinon's response.
Mind you, it's been far too long since I've seen ESB in its entirety.
It's a shame to have to admit all the details have gone by me long ago.
I'm actually pretty much saving my new viewing experience for Ady's ESB:R.

Testing resolve or not, he still looks goofy ;)
Him having lost his marbles is indeed what came up when I first saw him.
That and ... "oh jeez poor sod you..."

The way he drops the act the moment he has come to a conclusion about Luke rules out any temporary insanity reading.

He is both testing Luke's potential and preparing his future pupil not to take people or things on face value or based on assumptions.

Luke : "I'm not looking for a friend, I'm looking for a great warrior"

Yoda : "Great warrior! (laugh) Wars not make one great!"

So both savmagoett and ABC are french?
Peut-être que nous trois peuvent aider Ady à faire un nouveau version du film, complètement en français? :p

Wow Ziz, thanks for the info :)

Actually I'm Belgian, you may dispense with the pleasentries folks :p

I wrote this page 681 of the thresd:

About this dubbing debate:

Even though I now watch every movie in English, that has not always been the case, like most French talking peoples I grew up with a French dubbed star wars. I agree, it's clumsy and poorly made (especially ANH) but it's still better than looking a movie with subtiltes, you can't feel the emotion of the characters and you miss a portion of the pictures, especially when you're a kid.

I have a lot of friends who can't watch a movie in English, and I always been very frustrated I can't show them ANH(R), as it has no French dubbing or subtitles.
BTW is there a version of ANH(R) with French subs out there? In progress? And what about a French dubbed ANH(R)? I'm actually considering making a fan edit of the French dubb for Ady's ANH(R), fixing all the bad translations they did back then (3po > 6po ?, millennium Falcon > millennium Condor?!, Chewbacca > Chictabac ?!?!? or Chewie > Chico ?!?!?) but I'm not sure I'll have the time to do something like that…

Anyway, I'm verry happy to hear that you intend to add French dubbing Ady.*

:)

I should add that: because I grew up with a French dubbed star wars, all my childhood remembrance of them is in French so I'm quite attached to it, even though it's poorly translated sometimes.

@Ady: can you confirm (or deny) your intentions regarding the dubbing?

^ Funny how the dubs aren't at all an important part of my memories of SW or Empire. But let's be fair and notice that RotJ is very well dubbed in french and as close as possible to the original (not only the dialogues but the tones etc..).

I've been lurking this thread for months now, decided to post just to say I love all the changes. This is going right next to my copy of the ANH Revisted.

The only change I don't like so far is going back to Boba's original voice. That is all.

Nice work :D Can't wait for 2011

Yeah, I the old Boba voice always kinda annoyed me.  I thought it sounded like a well-to-do white guy trying his best to sound intimidating, it's at the point where whenever I watch the original I chuckle whenever the original Boba voice comes on, lol.  Temura (I think that's how you spell it) has more of a natural bad guy voice IMO.  Simply improving the quality of his voice over is enough for me.

But hey, I'm a continuity guy, as long as Ady keeps his word that he'll make Jango's voice sound like a well-to-do white guy trying to sound intimidating, fine by me.

Well, thats the reason I don't like the change. I like the New Zealand accent :P lol. But I'll watch it regardless.

Imma gonna guess you two are in the minority.

Imma gonna concur with Frink, there was some actual acting put into the original voice. Whereas Temuera literally just phoned it in without trying.

I loved the original voice. Hated the new one.

I'm Belgian too, so how about I don't dispense the pleasantries? :p

As for dubbing, Ady is of course free to do as he wishes, but I'm certainly not ever going to watch it in any other language than its original.

You cannot but admit there's a certain grandeur to Jones' voice.
If God ever had to speak, he'd be best off using Jones' voice! ;)
