OK rock I will have the raw HD file w\sync'd audio and your BD25 for Raiders in the morning to do some comparing, hopefully ALL files in a few days.

Thanks again for the heads up and guidance to tracking them down,I really appreciate it a lot.

also sent you a PM

The sources are 29.97 fps and are a hybrid film and interlaced, so if you are going to re-encode them, an IVTC is necessary.  Just a heads up.

Has there been any official announcement by Paramount or Lucasfilm on the Blu Ray releases?

I think they more than likely will be out next year, if Crystal Skull's release was any Indication.  Star Wars on the other hand will never see the light of day because lucas is not through with it yet.  More likely to come out towards the end of the formats life cycle is the 2004 dvd star wars set was any indication of that.

I see the oot and the 1997 versions as historically significant so i wish they would get a 1080p release like the 2004, but the odds of that happening are next to nil.

I kind of figured that LOL,1080i gave that a way,so what IVTC method did you use to get 23.976?

@ rock,

Raiders looks pretty darn good,I only looked over everything very briefly so far,but the one thing that may make me do this over is the advertising,no offense to the creators and the web sites but that is something I have NEVER liked from anyone and I always remove it,you have that little intro at the very start and on the menu, but the menu is cool, very neat how you ripped it from the DVD,very nice, just not a fan of the advertising(just my opinion only).

also did you read my other question above?

Its not too hard to remove the intro actually, if its just that, I wouldn't re-encode.

I cant remember the exact IVTC, but pretty sure it was Hybrid Film/Interlaced, mostly film.

I will try to do a quick write up later to let you know how to remove the intro and keep the menu intact.

I will figure out the IVTC,I was just curious what method you used.

is there a way to remove it from the menu also?

Actually come to think of it, if I had kept the original files I could have re-worked the menu without our name on it for you quite quickly and easily, but I am a neat freak so I delete all unneeded files when I was done with them, I dont even have the original source anymore.

Once you can get a grasp of DVD Architect 5.0, making your own menu with it is easy.    You can make the background any video clip or static image you want and add music and link the movie to it, I just chose the DVD menu for something simple.

sorry I didnt get back to you earlier.

unfortunately I cannot help you, I still dont even have a BD burner, but I can view them off of a USB HDD.  I did make some DVD9 copies that turned out quite nice.   You just need DVD-DL's for those, you can pm me if you want to know where to find them, I used the same source.

Hi guys,

I've got big love for the newsgroups, but ps3avchd.net is down at the moment(?!?)

Have they been uploaded to any particular group?

Does anyone still have the pre Lowry HD raiders.

Is there such a thing?  Pre-new matte possibly, but definitely there's no pre-Lowry HD transfer available.  I doubt Lowry was responsible for that.  Unless somebody did a homemade one, what you've seen on TV is what you'll get.

Pre-Lowry is only the LD and VHS right? And all they really changed were a few little things like the glass reflection and some matte lines?

The glass reflection, a few matte lines... I think something about the cart chase in Temple of Doom.  But what actually bothers people is the more recent sci-fi airings have included a new CG matte for one scene in Raiders.  I can never find the thread that compares it, but... well, to be honest, both shots look pretty bad.

Look in the first page of this thread, post #22 (by Moth3r).  It links directly to the post that has comparison screenshots.

It looks like a shot they were finally able to go back and "finish". And it sticks out like a sore thumb

I remember reading about a pre-lowry HD broadcast cap on here. I wouldn't rule out its existence.

Look forward to seeing this with or without CGI amendments (though I wish they'd leave the original versions alone)

Guess no update to this means that it most likely is abandoned, not to mention OPs "site" I think is down

Anyway, heres the comparison you guys might like to see if you hadnt already, both look great but I think the JPN might be the ones used for the BR, both also have flaws (JPN has hard subs (partly) and shifted picture to compensate for them, BBC has watermark and soft look, each has its own crop/frame differences)

old master = BBC Sky HDTV
new remaster = JPN HDTV.
The DVDs are based off the old master.

Raiders: JPN 20mbit MPEG2 vs BBC SkyHD 16mbit H264
Temple of Doom: JPN 20mbit MPEG2 vs BBC SkyHD 13mbit H264
Last Crusade: JPN 20mbit MPEG2 vs BBC SkyHD 16mbit H264

The DVDs are not based on the BBC HD master.  You can tell by the Raiders shot with the Jeep flying over the edge of the canyon - the DVD and the Japanese HD version use the original theatrical matte, while the BBC HD version uses the CGI-replacement matte first seen in the SciFi Channel broadcast.

You said the Japanese version has hard subs - could you post some screens of those?  I'd like to know how easy it would be to remove them.

The BBC HD logo would be super easy to remove, as it's entirely within the letterboxing, but as I said, it's not the original version (at least for Raiders).

My bad, I thought the CGI scene was actually in the DVDs but I guess I was wrong, I hadnt seen them in a while....as for the subs, they only appear in scenes where working in on the screen

So, it seems to me that the way to go is to use the Japanese master for all shots but the ones with subtitles or channel logos in the picture, which would be replaced with the BBC HD version.
