I send him my stereo files which he then upmixes into five channels, then adds in the LFE channel to get the 5.1 format.  The reason I can't do that myself is that my computer's WINE setup only supports stereo output, even though the sound card itself is capable of surround.

Damn I wish I knew how to split into 5 and then get your LFE, I can encode 5.1 easy enough, I do it all the time.

Do you have the stereo wav and LFE already uploaded somewhere? I wouldn't mind trying Dr.M's guide for this if you have links, good practice anyways, and something to do, PM if interested.

Am I right in assuming the only other thing you're waiting on is G-Force's ROTJ script?

Version 2 of ESB and ROTJ were pretty good.  I watched them recently and they were actually better than I remembered.  I recommend you obtain G-Force's ANH, Adywan's theatrical restoration/recreation of ESB, and dark_jedi's ROTJ if you want the best that is currently available in terms of theatrical versions.

where might these (v2 even) be available?

I checked dreamhosters and googled for a torrent, but no dice.

TehPARADOX only hosts v1, I've checked not too long ago.
DJ even commented on the post himself, saying he had a v2 online as well, and was working on a v3 (which is of course this one).
You'll have to check alt.binaries.starwars then.

The only difference between v1 and v2 is the colour of the Greedo/Jabba subs, the position of the layer breaks, and the "magic tree" fix in ESB.

v3, however, sounds like it's going to be a significant update.

I know. (The v1/v2 differences I mean). DJ explained it to the letter.

This sounds truly exciting!  I sure hope these will be available as NTSC through JDownloader or torrent!

Simple enough, since I live in a PAL region, I pull every NTSC I download through Nero Recode, and my PS3 plays it randy dandy (sorry, just popped in).

To my recollection, PS3 doesn't play both PAL and NTSC, and even if it does, mine refuses to, so Nero Recode is a blessing.

There is no need to re-encode.  Just burn NTSC DVDs to disc and they will play in all UK players, including the PS3.  Just do not add a region code.  The PS3 plays PAL and NTSC quite merrily. :-)

Author

Yep indeed - the only issue you'd have is if they were region 1 encoded.  I'd assume that the final releases will be NTSC, but region free.

It doesn't work as well the other way around (most region 1 DVD players can't do PAL), but from what I understand playing region-free NTSC material in PAL players is rarely an issue.

Author

I once had a Toshiba that I was able to "hack" into a region-free player, and it played PAL R2 discs as well.

But for the most part, PAL material on NTSC players generally doesn't work.

Author
Time

Oh wait, I should mention it plays PAL fanedits, which are region free.

Anyway...

Last time I tried playing the Phantom Edit (some odd years ago), it started by playing the Jedi attack on the battle droids (in the garden thingy) to free Padmé, then switched to the Darth Maul fight, over to the Pod-Race sequence... The scenes were all over the place! :)
And when I burned Dragonball GT Season 1 Disc 1, it showed the trailers, and then went dark. Nothing more. Same deal with the Bojack Unleashed film.
If I then pull everything through Recode, no problem whatsoever :)

Well, then there was something wrong with how those DVDs were authored, or with the copies you downloaded, or with how you burnt the discs, or with your PS3.  The last is unlikely, in my opinion.  You should be able to play any GOUT sourced DVD, including dark_jedi's, without re-encoding.

Been a member of this forum for ages now but changed ISP and cant remember password and when i do request reminded, it sends it to my old email. doh!

The good news it that my new ISP supports newsgroups but i havent the foggiest how to use it. When I log in I can only see 'Star Wars Rarities Volume 1' (300 messages) but cant see any other files whatsoever...does that mean they'r not there?

If anyone could answer it would be much appreciated as I'm about to become a father and want my children, when they'r old enough, to see the original theatrical versions of star wars.

Author

Your ISP probably doesn't have much retention. To see everything that is at the newsgroup you'll need a paid server like astraweb....$11 a month for unlimited speed and volume.

Satanika reports that he has obtained the files I sent him and that the ESB 5.1 should be ready soon.  So, yay.  :)  Once I have it I'll test it out to make sure everything is as it should be and then it will be available.  I'm quite pleased with the way this turned out, although I wish I'd been able to finish it faster.

I'm also going to do some tweaking to the LFE channel of RotJ to achieve a better balance, but this will amount to minor changes only.
