Help required with a HD edit

A few years ago I edited a couple of films, namely Road to Perdition and the 2005 version of WOTW.  As these are now available in HD via Blu-Ray I'm planning to revisit the edits to produce HD versions.

Unfortunately I've fell at the first hurdle because the problem I have is I can't convert the streams into a format which Sony Vegas will recognise.

At the moment I've de-muxed the mkv container into a .h264 file and .dts file. I know Vegas doesn't deal in dts so I'll need to convert this to AC3. But the main issue is with the .h264 file. I've tried using TSmuxer to drop it in another container, QuicktimePro to convert it to mpeg-4 (QT Pro won't even open the h264 file), and also Yamb with zero success, Vegas refuses to open the file (it hangs).

I'm hoping someone who has experimented with HD editing might be able to point me in the right direction. I'm guessing the video stream will need to be re-encoded somehow.

I don't think the answer is already in this forum somewhere, I carried out some searches with not much success. Also I know ADM has dabbled with HD editing so I PM'd him (he's helped me in the past) but it doesn't look like he's around.

Thanks to anyone who can give me some guidance on this issue.

Sorry, but we can't offer any help with editing illegal downloads. Confirm (by PM) that you own and are working from the official BDs to get your thread re-opened.

Hello Ady, firstly thanks for taking time away from ESB:R to reply to my problem.

I've installed Riverpast Video Cleaner, and also the Lagarith codec. Then I've selected the Lagarith codec from the video settings.

When I try to add my .h264 file I receive a '... does not contain recognisable video' error message.

I tried to mux the .h264 file into a .ts container, but then I get a different message asking me to install CCCP and GPL decoders.

Before I continue (and possibly balls something up), I was just wondering if you could give me a bit more guidance.

Cheers, Kris

Thanks Ady.

I've just made a donation to the ESB:R materials fund to say cheers for your help with this. I'm nearly off the ground...

I've ripped the lossless avi now, and also converted the ac3 to six wavs. I've loaded them all into Vegas but, the issue now seems to be that one stream is slightly longer than the other, so the audio needs to be slightly stretched to get everything in sync. Is this normal?

I've checked everything is marked as 23.976 during conversion, and don't think it's to do with the 'regulate timecode' flag in River Past. Stretching it is not a problem but sometimes there are minor artifacts in the audio.

Also what colour settings do you use when creating your AVIs with River Past?  RGB seems to lead to 0-255 colour levels so the blacks are too black, and the colours too vibrant.

Cheers again, Kris
