i never said the scene was fake, i said it was pieced together and reuses existing dialogue.

Yeah. I call bullshit on most of this scene.  It just doesn't make sense.

The only "old" footage in it seems to be vader walking through the hallway and entering the elevator.

Wasn't there a scene where he was supposed to go see the emporer (besides the one where he chokes the guards)?  It could have easily been taken from that.

Sorry but I just don't believe anything Lucas tells us anymore.

Howard Kazanjian on page 64 of the book "The Making of The Return of the Jedi" (Del Rey, 1983):

"Mark Hamill is coming back for one day of shooting later this month [November 1982] to do the scene where he builds his new lasersword..."

This scene was a re-shot made after the principal shooting was over. It was shot the same day as the scene with Luke on the X-Wing cockpit talking to Han and Leia via intercom, to sustitute the cut sandstorm scene.

It is possible the shots of Vader are recycled because they didn't bother to shot new Vader scenes so late after the main shooting was over.

So you don't believe Mark Hamill himself in that clip that Adywan posted then? He mentions he had vague memories of doing that scene, but wasn't sure until he saw it again and it all came back to him!

Exactly my point as well.  Luca$ has blatantly made up and twisted so many things as he went along that who knows what the truth is anymore.

But regardless of this scene's authenticity, the underlying point is still the same for me:  No OOT, no SW Blu-ray purchase for me!  I don't care how many deleted scenes and bonus crap they put on there!  Not interested in yet another SE version (because we all know that there will be even more changes by the time this comes out LOL).

Just because the scene was half assed in 83 doesn't mean it isn't real. That's probably why it was cut out of the film to begin with.

I claim the shots of Luke to be a fake because Mark Hamill has said on several occasions that they were never shot with him in it. Each time, he sounded much more sure of himself than I think that he did at CV ...

They could have shot another actor's hands holding the lightsaber back in '82. That just wasn't Hamill.

The composition of the shot follows the storyboard: http://www.starwarsholidayspecial.com/swcs/episode6/images/Luke-saber_storyboard_small.jpg

The other shots are obviously from the 80's. The corridor is well-known, and can be seen in Return of the Ewok here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0dirZH0aKY (2:11)

Come on, guys, look at Luke's chin in that clip and look at Mark's chin...not even close!!!

LOL. I have seen other people post "That is definitely Mark Hamill's chin.".

Like I said (it was either here or in the Blu-Ray thread), Nimoy sounded absolutely authoritative when he told me that he never did Transformers the movie. Guess what? He just forgot something that only took a couple hours a few decades prior. People forget things.

There's been a few times on films where I've commented to someone, "I really wish we would have shot _____, so I could cut to it right here." before they correct me, "You did shoot that!" and I have to go back and sift through footage to check. Its easy to forget a few minutes on a set with the amount of shit you go through in a production.

Oh well, there's always gotta be someone swearing that the moon landing was faked or wearing tinfoil hats because the government is stealing their brainwaves.

A digitally restored Return Of The Ewok would be as welcome if not more so from a fan-edit perspective.

For God's sake what is WRONG with some of you people on here??!? Adywan posted a video clip from the celebration with MARK HAMILL introducing it, AND confirming it's HIM in the clip.

FFS!

Yep, the ratio is falling. Nice to read some posts from the depleted rational folk though.

I love this scene already and am really rather excited about the blu ray release. OOT or not. Ho hum eh?

Some of you guys are just off your rockers pissed at Lucas for raping your childhood. If Mark forgot, he forgot. Two pieces of evidence have been provided that it's indeed him. If you don't believe it, then feel free to live in your pursuit of denial.

Personally, I was stoked to see this.

What clip did Adywan post?  I didn't see it.

However, don't think that if Luca$ tells mark to sit up and beg that he won't do it.  Perhaps I'm too jaded but I just don't believe Lucas anymore.  He's screwed us over far too many times.

Thanks for exhuming that vile and ugly old phrase from the past, Sunday. We can have civil discussions and disagreements on this board without it.

LOL, my thoughts exactly. Look, I'm no fan of Lucas, but to keep denying that it's Mark Hamill in the shot when Mark Hamill himself confirms it's him ... Seriously, it's a little extreme.

Mark forgot he shot the scene. After he saw it again, he remembered. It's as simple as that.

I entirely agree.  The phrase is so extreme and unnecessary, and I find it more than a little disturbing.

Well I was going off of the first video where he basically said that the shooting didn't happen.  But now w/ the other info, I stand corrected I guess.  I still think the Vader crap was pieced together, though, and I have a hard time buying its originality.  Hey this is what happens when someone (Luca$) lies to you time and time again...even when they are telling the truth, you still think they're lying.  Just ask my ex LOL ;)

But again who really cares from my end, I am still not buying this without the OOT!

the mega-corporation who cried wolf?

Hopefully there's at least a handful of clips like this, I don't think it has a place in the finished film but it's cool to see - whether authentic or recently assembled..

Re: the OOT on BD - it wont happen because George doesn't want it to happen. it's that simple.

I'll get the BD's though if there's a good amount of [new] documentary and BTS footage - I'm more interested in that side of things than the actual films.

I actually find it amusing.

Besides, I think George said it best, here.

NOTE: I should add, I'm just being a smart ass. I want the OOT as much as anybody. Though at this point, if the unaltered scenes were just dumped unremastered in HD in the deleted scenes section straight from the film print, I'd be fine with that. I'm sure we could take care of the rest at this point.

I agree- I'm sick enough of it being repeated almost daily in the SW threads at the Home Theater Forum, used as an excuse not to take even valid criticisms of Lucas seriously.

I just watched the scene for the third time... Even though the Vader clips seem awkwardly pieced together, it does look like Luke is supposed to be hearing something because he kind of flinches for a moment and then goes back to working on the saber. I think the ROTJ soundtrack booklet mentions that Vader is trying to reach Luke through the Force in this scene, too.

I suport MagnoliaFan's take on this.  Everyone, don't make this any more compicated than it is.

As much as i hate the special edition alterations, a small part of me would like to see this scene placed into the original movie.  The scene is moody, kinda spooky and actualy rather cool, and I think it might give RotJ a bit more dramatic heft, even if it does slightly spoil Luke's later entrance.
